Yes i made my judgement aon their ships based on the ones that i saw in Kroothawks first post which i guess are just there as a example of what they might be like. Either way. The ones in the pic do resemble those of one of the uncharted seas factions. Which leads me to my next point.

If GW had announced this earlier i might have considered it. But i didnt know it was coming out so i satisfied my urge to start up a fantasy ship to ship game by ordering Uncharted seas yesterday. Personaly i see this as an effort to try and take some buisness from a competitor that has been doing pretty well for themselves, namely spartan games.

For those unfamiliar, Uncharted seas is a naval fantasy ship t ship game. Rules cost about 30$, and a fleet of ships between 30-50$. Yes it uses cards but they are optional. Cards simulate mundane things like the winds changing, to spells and counterspells, and ways to fix your ship. Some have also said that the Uncharted seas models are not as visually impressive. Well, new CAD/CAM models for all factions are being released next month. There are 8 total fleets out right now that you can buy and beyond the intitial starter fleets, there are a host of unusual ships, sea monsters and coastal fortifications available. My favorites being the Wading Giant, and the Dragon that the elves get.

This game i wont likely buy, but i wouldnt mind trying.

Pestilence Provides.

I could see that they would have 6 fleets in the box. Based on the rumours, the fleets are Empire, Elves, Dark Elves, Orcs, and Vampires. I believe someone said there are six fleets. I am thinking it is probably Dwarfs. Just to have classic match ups. This just my Guess.

Hmm... I think based on the supposed scale, six would be optimistic.

Not champing at the bit for this one, I seriously doubt I'll be getting it. Will wait to have a look, but seems unlikely, no complaint for an attempt to bring Man O'War back in some form, but seems an odd thing to try with a lone box.

Necromunda reworked for normal factions, so the models required would be from the 40K ranges, or a Mordheim which requires models from Warhammer fantasy would have had me more interested.

Warhammer Quest would have got me buying multiple boxes, as would have a BFG game. A little part of me would love Dark Future, just because I missed it first time around, played a couple of games round a mates house in 1990ish, but that was all.

Seems likely that the release set up means we might see another big box update in 2013, well if this one doesn't tank of course.

2008 - 40K
2009 - Space Hulk
2010 - Fantasy
2011 - 'Dread Fleet'
2012 - 40K
2013 - ??? - profit

Judgement will be reserved till the box is revealled mind, but I can't see me getting this, especially with me no longer playing Fantasy.

Realistically, if this game is Warhamster scale, it can't include many ships. Maybe 3 or 4 per fleet? Otherwise they'd never be able to fit all the pieces into a Space Crusade sized box. I'm guessing it would be one sprue per fleet, and once you include sails, it's not exactly an armada. So there may be an additional gimmick to it e.g everyone has to find some sort of objectives. One approach I've seen in the past is to have each ship represented by a cardboard deck plan, and the troops by cardboard counters. That would be a simply way of dealing with boarding actions. Not quite as much fun as having actual troops models on the ships though.

Come on, people - just play Uncharted Seas. Better game, better company, better models.

Or the troops represented by Warmaster scale minis? I was just thinking it might be something along those lines. Otherwise, the ships are indeed going to be few in number.

Another opportunity or GW to think of a new idea wasted.

I've already got Uncharted seas.

Laugh all you like, I still get my naval fix from Pirates of the Spanish Main et al! 30 mins of fun - chuck a few islands courtesy of GF9 on some blue painted foam core and I am good to go.

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.

Ah, you must be one of those lucky people who get secret GW releases in advance. Can you post pics of the models and a scan of the rules so we can all laugh at how much worse they are than Spartans "roll a bucket of D6, guy with more 6s wins"?

Yes. Along with Storm of Storm-Ship Storms.

Meh. A lot of my group is already playing Distopian Wars.

If I wanted to play with boats, I'd get an army for that.

I have to pass on this offering from GW.

I can’t help but feel this release will be an opportunity wasted. Dread fleet seems like an odd direction to take, especially when there were better ideas for the one off release. I don’t see this release selling very well especially considering GW will most likely charge $120 for the game.

Call me one of the folks willing to take a look at it when it come out.

I loved Man-O-War - and if a one off release can recapture some of that - Great.

Or I may not like it and pass.

But I am interested.

Yeah, maybe. Funny thing, back when I was about 17-18, the friends I gamed with and I were writing rules for ship to ship combat using the Mordheim rules as a basis. If this turns out to be something like this, well, then I might be interested.

I don't think the ships will really be Warmaster scale. That must be a mistake. Because Harry (I think) over on Warseer said something about the ships being about 3" long, which isn't anywhere near Warmaster scale. Unless this game is for epic combat between fleets of tiny rowboats.

And if the ships were Warmaster scale, how many could they possibly fit in a single boxed game? Probably 3 or 4 at the most.

It's an interesting idea, but I can't see it selling any where near as many copies as Space Hulk. I think the better idea would have been an Adeptus Titanicus redo. A bunch of Imperial, Chaos, Orc and Eldar titans would be easy to accomplish based on the new plastic technology and FW's existing models.

I also own Space Hulk, in that i really enjoy GW Specialist Games, but i remember when i used to be like some people at this post. Complaining about how GW was treating me as a customer, how thier releases targeted SM's but not entire armies, or how some things got released with no support. Then a friend invited, no insisted i try a game of Warmachine over a year before I caved. Before i knew it I sold my grey knights (unsupported at the time), dark eldar (also unsupported at the time), nids (which i had been collecting since 2nd edition goodness) and my black templar. Now I have moved from a, I only play this one or two games made from one company, player to a player that plays many games and enjoy them. Now I own a Khador/Trollblood army, a Covenant of Antartica (Dystopian Wars) navy, and a Neverborn Dreamer force, and am looking into Infinity. But from time to time I do open up my space hulk set and...remember. I have no problem with people playing Warhammer or 40k, they are great worlds with an awesome story and mechanics that have been polished over the course of 25 years. What I dont understand are people who complain about a game and still play it or buy it. I'd hate to spoil some peoples' tear parade but any company whether it be GW, PP, or Spartan Games exists to make money. Even Mat Wilson was an artist who decided to make a profit out of a world he created. And while we can complain on the boards all we want at the end of the day we vote whether we approve of a companies' business tactics with our dollar. If a corporation is a able to squeeze profits to make investors happy, they aren't EVIL, they are just doing what companies do. For those who love GW and feel that GW is doing right by them, I apologize for the rant, I really do. However for the people that keep on complaining and hopelessly paying as if somehow they dont got a choice where thier dollar goes, I rant only because I remember...when i used to be like you.

With that in mind if you are pleased with a WHF naval game or displeased than that is okay. However, if your in the "i cant believe GW is doing this again, why do they keep doing this too me" crowd, which has been going on for some years now, than what are you doing? For me I enjoy the GW on shot games so if this is a naval game chances are I will be reading product reviews and picking it up.

Actually, no. It is 4 races: Empire, Vampires, High Elves, Orcs. As said in the first post. Haven't heard of 6 fleets anywhere else.

Harry says "Warmaster scale", guess you confuse it with the MoW discussion.

BTW Uncharted Seas and Dystopian Wars are more comparable to MoW and not Warmaster scale.

My complain is that customers vote and vote with their money against current GW mamagement decisions (less sales per year for years), but nothing happens. Making Space Hulk limited was one of the most financial damaging decisions of the last years, it could have sold 3-5 times as much with the right marketing (e.g. selling it in major toy stores). Making the fifth month of Fantasy releases in a row is also not helpful for profits. Making the boxed game NOT Warhammer Quest but a new naval game unconnected to anything else is also very unlikely to generate big sales.

Now I understand that GW sells off its infrastructure to get its former CEO and major shareholder a million pound per year (annual profit about 17 Mio pound, dividend paid 19 Mio.). All that is off topic, but maybe you understand that not everyone dislikes the idea of a boxed naval game because of too much profit orientation, but because of not enough.

Read the thread on Warseer, Kroothawk. Harry said the "normal" ships are about 3" or 10-12 cm. (though he also calls them Warmaster scale, so he's obviously confused about what scale Warmaster is).

Harry also never says it is only 4 races. He says several, and that four is wrong. So, either you are wrong on both these points, or Harry is.

Okay, Harry said it just 3 hours ago, after I read the thread the last time. Willchange that in the first post.
Harry wrote:Not sure how we got stuck on four fleets. I have heard about boats more than four armies.
Speculation? Sure, $99, like the Space Hulk box.

More than that.

Not all factions I don't imagine for one minute. But I have heard about more than four.

And he said IF normal ships are 3" or 10-12cm long then... (BTW 3" are 7.62 cm) and that he hasn't seen ships yet. So I don't interpret that as a definite number.
