On the fluff, is it supposed to be limited to a sort of character bio, or can it be a narrative with character info?

Anyways, figured I put a pic up and ask yall a question

Here is a wip of Snori Loresayer. Very basic colors only thus far. He is "Keeper of Memories" for the Redmane clan and is currently engaged in writing the Saga of Rognvalder Redmane (Harad Redmane's father). Oh yeah, He is also a sorcerer... The folks I mentioned are goobers from my WoC army

The WoC next to him is a wip but I want to do the lightning design over Snori's armour. My question is (get ready for a pun) is it too flashy? I feel like the business might take away from the model.

Also, I know you can't do a single fig AND a squad, but if you could I would be doing these. Might do them anyways. Best figs GW ever made imo

Glory is fleeting, but obscurity lasts forever.

Considering also your duty as a warrior you should not waver. Because there is nothing more auspicious for a warrior than a righteous war.

Quick question about the squad, would it need to be a legit codex squad?
Or could it be a random unit? I'd like to add a couple Marines and an Inquisitor for looks. Time permitting of course.

But thanks to codex updates...not really legit anymore. :(

I think you're safe if you have some good fluff (see below)
Unluckyguardsman wrote:Yes, the rules have been flexible in the spirit of the competition... there is nothing stopping you from having a character-like model with your squad. I never specified whether the squad had to be completely game legal or not.

alabamaheretic wrote:man and all i have put together is a normal dark eldar succubus...i think im in too deep and i have obnly just begun!

Don't panic! Don't panic! You still have a month and a half left to make that normal dark eldar succubus awesome! Did you know that a lot of IoB models won awards at the UK Golden Demon this year? Goes to show: it's not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog... Or is it "What's good for the goose is good for the gander?" Hmmm...What's that one about glass houses and throwing things again? Anyways, I'm sure she will be great

No way is it too flashy! I think it's a sweet paint scheme! (A little time consuming, but sweet )You have enough other details (chaos star, fur, etc) that the model doesn't get lost in there.

Viktor von Domm wrote:oh vostroyans... the things i would do to them^^ onyl good things of course^^ looks very noble that red and black combo!

Watch out, Viktor. That's what I said two years ago and now I have an army of them! Thanks for the comments!

The steam pack is still to high-techy for me, but then again, I'm not so familiar with steampunk. The oven door idea that you had was a good one. I'd like to see a pic with that part on.

Good luck!

Ok so here's a mock up of of the mini I'll be painting for the competition. He's basically a metal kitbash. A cookie for the person who guesses all the parts used. (Hint; not all of them are GW).

Think I might as well submit one of my squads or HQs from here. Just not sure which one, probably whichever I finish first and am most satisfied with. I guess the Librarian counts as a walker heh.

Are you going to smooth that gs over or are you going for the hammered bronze look? I'd go for smooth, otherwise though it's looking great so far.

I'm potentially interested in joining up. This seems like a fun competition and I tend to need some outside motivation to keep projects going. Case in point, my St. Celestine conversion, which I'd like to enter, if that's okay. I started work a few months back, but it stalled and I haven't made any more progress than what's seen in the pics here.

And I'm still trying to decide between two sets of wings. Leaning towards the more majestic ones on the left.

or

There's a possibility that I'll be moving in the near future though, which would necessitate me bowing out of the competition.

Looking good, looks like a Master of the Watch body to me, with a chapterhouse head and a scibor shield. Can't remember where the backpack's from, and I can't really see the weapon well enough to make a judgement there.

Curved, closed wings are far superior. Always look fantastically ominous on big, powerful HQ/Elite units.

Added to the list!

So I have a question to put forth to participants. It is obvious to me that this competition is growing beyond my wildest dreams. and hopefully will continue to do so. But I am having a problem with the creation of voting threads. I know its a long way off, but I want to make a decision now. I am wondering if I should make either 2 voting threads, one for WHFB and 1 for 40k; 2 voting threads, 1 for painting champ and one for modelling champ (containing WIP pictures before painting); or 1 mega-thread with some sort of "vote for a champ in 40k and in WHFB". Let me know what you think, I really want this to be a co-op decision.

Also, I hope to have WIPs up tonight for my entry!

i would go for the champ of modeling^^ that way i have a chance at least before i crap up the paintjob and be under the last ten^^ seriously two threads, one for modeling and one for painting... seems for me a good solution to break it up a bit but widen motivational possabilites...

I am havving a stall in my progress, When spraying the darn model, my primer gaked out, anyone know how to strip krylon paint without harming the resin?
also UG I think that more threads would be better : a modelling champ for fortyk and fantasy and a painting champ for 40k and fantasy

Precisely what I was going for...if someone is an ace modeller but only a decent painter, they should get a chance to win something against GD winners!

@CS I use rubbing alcohol, don't know if that would work on spray primer though. I agree more threads is better, but I don't want to de-centralize too much.

I'd say go with a painting and a modelling champ. It's not sounding like there are too many WHFB entrants, so this would be an easy split and give everyone two chances to win.

I also am thinking one poll for modeling and one for painting. Considering that the vast majority of the entries thus far have been 40k, I think having a specific fantasy category would be a little useless (except, of course, for those entering pieces in said fantasy poll ).

@ Vik: I was a little confused by your "almost ready for paint" comment. Will your steam knight be lacking arms?

Here's what I got up to tonight. Watched a little bit of Braveheart and worked a little bit on Petr Ychenko

Started working on some of the details. I'm pretty happy with how his face turned out. Suitably grumpy and grizzled looking I think.

I think I might eventually have to come up with a second entry here, given that the deadline is in a month and a half still

Keep up the good work, everyone!

nope... the "crosses you see currently will be the mounts for the already made arms...they are chopped up mortar feets... i thought they would look better than a blob of just GS to connect the arms to the body... i will mount the arms later on as i think i will try to make a good one with that mini and have to access the body without the arms... hopefully this will give me an edge^^

oh and in the first pic here of my wip the arms are shown lying on the table... i used again termy arms and added a ork shoota...to keep the steampunky and british look i aim for...

Okay, that's two for a split.

Promblem is, there is no way to create two+ polls in a dakka thread. hand tabulation is too error prone as well.
