Have you been looking at that gun and laughing maniacally, like some kind of twisted evil genius? Because that's what I'd be doing if I just built that! It looks amazing, and I'm loving the little details of the gun platform and the insignia on the shoulders!

Aww yeah, those are size twelve shoes for y'all in the US, size 11 across the pond. I got a better scale picture in this update.

Even though I'm not an Ork player I enjoy every single one of your projects.

The cannon fits perfectly.
But are you implying the orks made a weapon so awesome, they built a great gargant arround it?

Thanks! actually, the Great Gargant is built around a snotling named "Lewis." In all seriousness, I wish I had thought of the gun while building the guts, it would have fit nicely.

Thanks! I know it's cheesy, but so are y'all. I added a ton of detail because of the responses in this thread.

Mutley wrote:Wow, that is awesome! What on earth is next, Mega Gargant?

I dunno whats next. I'll finish the terrain board, but I have no plans after that. what would you like to see? my only issue with a Mega Gargant is the size, I feel that the Great Gargant pushes the high-end of even Apocalypse. I would rather make an Ork fortress, or something like that. What I really want to make is a Kroozer gaming table, like in the first stage of the Space Marine video game.

Moltar wrote:This is amazing. The only thing its missing are toy cranes next to it with painted orcs "building" the gargant. Truly excellent work all around. Thanks for sharing.

Gimmie time, I'll add all that!

Pretty much. like when I finished the Blasta-Bomma, I did in fact fly it around the house making shoota and plane noises. I did the same with the cannon, I was so happy it come out right and looked good mounted.

UPDATE TIME!

FE, FI FO FIVIETS!
i HATE RIVETS!

These stupid feet took four hours EACH to rivet up. my damn hand still hurst today, I had to just cut a few at a time yesterday. Stupid rivets. Eight hours! thats like, two of the Lord of the Rings movie, on an Apocalypse game! Or a tournament! or what five minutes of a Kevin Costner movie feels like!

Anyway, have some pictures.

There are two doors on each foot.

Studid #%@$ing rivets.

The original feet were the size of Landraiders. these are bigger, haha.

OK, enough bitchin' 'bout rivets. Next is some seriously fun stuff. I got a ton of things for the insides and more detail on the guns.

Up next, ammo belts for the Arm cannons, and I build a fire truck to stuff inside the Gargant! Also, Duke Nukem posing as a Nob! (just needs paintin'!)

Just wait, todays update is pretty awesome!

UPDATE TIME!!!!

I got a sweet update for you today folks, no boring shoes up in here today! I got guns. big guns. Dakka guns. DakkaDakka guns.

I start by building a vertical hopper for the three side guns out of plastic, brass strips, and fishing weights.

For the other side of the gun, I want some belt fed guns so I get a comb and some thin drafting tape.

Next, I bought some beads that were close enough, and a plastic ammo belt for a spitball gun. I then glued fishing weights to the belt, and added drafting tape to the smaller beads.

I started the mounting by cutting a hole in the gun, and packing the end piece to the ammo belt into the slot.

Next, I added the four belts to the bofors guns, another side belt for a smaller gun, and then I built up the top a little to make it look like an Ork tank.

It was looking pretty, here it is pre rivets.

After dwelling in rivet hell, I primed up this bad boy.

inside

outside without the main cannon belt.

Outside with the main cannon belt

inside hoppers

front

side

See! I told you this was gonna be better then feet! Up next: we stuff a firetruck inside the Great Gargant.

I might have an older ork that would fit, if not will a grot with bullet-shaped hat work?

RSJake wrote:That gun arm is beyond words! Awesome! You see that? Awesome just fell short of properly describing it! We'll have to come up with a new word that describes Super-Mega-Uber-Awesome!

Thats why Orks use glyphplates to descirbe how awesome stuff is. My favorite glyph (which I cleverly used on my Gargant) is the "Gar" glyph, it means really big and awesome. The Orks agree with you though, sometimes words arent enough, so the Gar rune is just an empty plate!

Rogue Wolves wrote:you dont know how rediciously awsome those guns look!!, and using a comb and tape to make bullet chains, is GENIUS !

Wait till you see what I did the last few days, I think I have lost it. It's a lot of y'alls comments and inspiration. I would not have added the ammo belts on the gun or filled the interior if not for comments to do so.

mullet_steve wrote:what is the name on your spitball gun with the awesome belt feed? I can't make anything out except "max force" I think that's imperium gothic for DAKKA?

It is "Max Force" brand spitball gun. I lucked out and found a ammo pack for only seven bucks, it had two hundred spitballs and the belts. I don't own a Max Force gun, but it seemed to be the premere spitball cannon, and was fully automatic.

Lorna wrote:So. Much. WIN!

Pretty much, I want this thing to clearly be the incarnation of Gork (or possibly Mork.) The Glyphs even say it's a god! take that, "Nightbringer." pfft. what ev's.

bigfish wrote:looking sweeeet, although the giant shell things look too big to fit out of any of the guns, still looks awesome though

There was one gun that all the others were built around, it just had a shorter barrel then any other one! the shells were pretty close (a hair too big) but I figured it was close enough. apparently not, if you saw it! I fixed it with a bigger barrel and a cloth guard.

I have to wait for the clay to set before I can age the barrel and add runes. Good catch though, thanks!

UPDATE TIME!

OK, I have really gone 'round the bend. I may or may not have modelled and painted for two days in a row. All I know is I packed the inside of this silly thing with so much crap it's bursting at the seams with guns, ammo, Meks, Grots, tools, and more gubbins then three Deffskull loota trukks. I have so much to show off, That I'll need to spread it over two updates. I'll do one tonight and one in the morning tomorrow. (It's about thirty pictures in all, I got lots of details to show!

First up, I assembled all the guts of my firetruck, and primed them with a hammered metal primer. this give a cool texture, but only if you thick coat it. I don't recomend using it on highly detailed models!

Next, I did some speed painting on the bits, to break up the flat color a bit. I used metallics, as the insides of the Gargant were already my usual rust color. (which is a non-mettalic rust.) I figured having some variation would be good, considering the size of the model.

Once I had a nice pile of bits, I realized I would need a bit more "meat," so I took three sizes of square blocks and primed them with the hammered metal. I also assembled a bits box of brass tubing, plastic tubing, bailing wire, bits of black sheet plastic, and a huge box of sinkers. I was ready! My plan of attack was simple: stuff everything into the Great Gargant, no exceptions.

Here's a few pictures of the Gargant before the gubbins. (By the way, this is how I had planned on leaving it, plain but good enough. thank you all for urging me to go a bit further.)

And here it is with all the gubbins jammed into it!

Once I got all that stuffed in there, it was time for the crew! I'll post that in the morning! (the Gargant is only half full in these pictures!)

Here is an artist's rendition of what the completed Great Gargant will look like:

Mad genius is never an insult! (unless you're a dictator, and not a modeller.)

UPDATE TIME II !!!!!

Now that I had the Great Gargant guts built, I needed to make it lived in. I really didn't want to paint models to go into it, but it was clear I had no other choice. Go big, or go home.
I painted up two Runtherders, five Meks, twenty-nine Grots, a ton of weapons, and as an added bonus most of the tools from the original Battlewagon kit!

Once that was all painted and ready to go, I got out the Ork shoehorn and jammed em' all into the Gargant. same rule as before, stuff it all in till I was done. I figured that was the best way to make it look like the older drawings of Orks, just crap everywhere.

First I ripped off a wall to the engine room, and added a Mek, some Grots, and the iconic big shoota to the back.

I love how the Night Gobbo in the last pic looks like he's about to make his move! (hmm.. most of the Night Gobbos look like they're up to no good.)

Next, a Runtherder watches over food gatherin'.

Another Runtherder gives a lesson to some grot Mek assistants.

A Burna Boy fixes a small plumbing problem with a big torch.

Grots goofing off in an ammo dump.

Mek about to regulate on said Grots.

Ammo Runt doing his job.

Another stockpile, Another group of Grots goofing off.

Mek fixin' thangs.

Mek keeping the boiler working with the help of a length of twisted I-beam.

This is my Favorite Grot, he's a soccer hooligan from the late eighties. his tab even said "hooligan!" (He's also about to get ganked by another Night Gobbo!)

A rare glimpse of Grots actually working.

Callers and signallers doing their jobs.

Lastly, a trio of distant photos. the first one is from the front, it's the upper deck of the Gargant.

This is the right side of the Gargant.

Lastly, the left side of the Gargant.

Well, thats about it for now! I got life stuff for the next few days, but both the boy and I got some fun miniatures for christmas so I'm sure I'll be back on the horse come monday. (I got a Battlewagon for my Nobs! oh, and Skyrim, so updates may slow a bit, haha.)

Thanks again to everyone, I would not have gone the extra mile had y'all not encouraged me to do so. As Sir Issac Newton said, "I have seen further only by standing on the shoulders of giants."

Go big or go home, as I always say.

Well, you may have noticed that I haven't posted in a while.
You may be thinking, "that pox hasn't posted in a while. maybe work called, and he was gone again for a few months like last time? maybe there was a family emergency? maybe he was in a bad part of town, and got mixed up in a drug deal gone bad, and now he has 36 hours to clear his name both with the FBI and the local mob boss?"

Pfft, I wish. I got Skyrim for christmas. I'm a real casual gamer, even with fallout I slowly played it over several months. (even the first two!) Not Skyrim, holy crap that's a well made game.

Anywho, enough of me being a nerd. I got the Feet painted. I experimented a lot on the feet. There were a few painting techniques that I wanted to try, and testing them out on the feet was the perfect way. I'm not sure if y'all want the blow by blow, so I'll just skip to the finished project. The two main ones I wanted to try was my new air supply rig for my airbrush, and the salt mask technique.

The CO2 tank for the airbrush rules, it does everything I wanted it to. I usually airbrush people and people sized objects, it was fun and challenging to try and airbrush a model.
The salt masking technique has potential, but I made my undercoat too light. I'll try again with a lower plate, but I think I have the painting order for the Gargant figured out for the most part.

PICTURES!

If it doesn't have a gunner, a Landraider can drive under it!

Up next, I continue painting till my eyes bleed!
