You might check out your extended feet with the both arms attached to see how it looks (vs. non-extended feet of course)

BTW, are you sure you didn't mean to call the cat "Ziggy", he/she also looks very much like a cat I know you are aware of. Does the name "Oscar" ring a bell?

I am not getting a clear picture of what you are talking about with the left arm, but I will sit and wait until it is more clear to me. Keep it up! It's looking amazing!

Yeah, the Boy keeps pushing for the chaos gates too. I just dont want them to distract from the overall picture, I'd rather save that for something that can feature it propper. I got the left arm done in this update.

Yeah, the Boy's cat Zippy does in fact resemble Oscar, haha. I know the back extenders will be on for sure on the feet, just not sure about the side bits. I do plan on figuring it out when I'm done with the bulk of the build.

At least someone likes the shoes, haha. I've gotten a ton of grief for them, but they're staying!

I finished the mount without incident, but I feel it when I pass. I hope I can get through this build without another chain-incident, but I just dont know.

(I was going to do a chain-saw make-up wound, but I'm worried I'd derail my own thread, and I got in trouble last time I posted something gross.)

Thats really big! Like Mega-Gargant big, you should just make one of those!

UPDATE!

I got most of the left arm done.

First, I mounted the underlsung chainsaw.

Next, I raided every tube I had and started making guns.

Then I started adding guns to the arm. don't mind the one thats up at an angle, I was originally going to have it and another to give a fan effect of barrels, but it wound up not looking right.

I kept adding guns and details.

Lastly, I dropped the Paris gun that was sticking up to just a vertical cannon, and called it a day. The arm still needs a few more details and missles, but its mostly done.

Inside

Outside

Back to the Lifta-droppa, I added more detail to the back. this arm is now also mostly done. (it needs a ton of wires.)

Lastly, I decided on the final mount for the arms and glued the mounting into place onto the body. I also added a neck. To keep the arms removable, I added brass pins to the mix. I'll eventually add braces and grips to the pins, so they dont look silly, and for ease of removal/mounting.

Up next, the head!

I like the lifta-droppa for sure now. I'm not sure what you're looking for on the rod measurements, they range in length from two to six inches, and there's about ten different gauges of plastic and five different gauges of brass and metal. which gun specifically do you need to mesurements for?

You should grab some photos and start a thread!

UPDATE TIME!

I got his noggin' rockin'.

First, I rescued what the cat hadn't eaten of the old head, and added a neck.

Next, I cut the face off so I could put gubbins in it, and added some lower teeth.

Next, I made some nose holes from plastic, started sculpting the eye socket, added an old Rhino on top, and the begginings of gubbins.

I now had enough stuff on him to size out the jaw, so I made that.

The jaw is gonna remain posable.

Lastly, here is the head mounted on the body. I also added a bit more plastic for shaping.

The head is only about 25% done, all I have at this point is the roughed out shape. I'm gonna keep puttin' clay on the head while I start on the removable void shields.

For sure, see todays update! I will be making them as observation decks. I had a giant rocket and a giant Zzap gun when I first made it, but it was too much on the model. I just want to be able to throw a ton of Boyz up there, so it's just gonna be a guard rail or wall, and some bolt on big shootas for the shoulders. (By the way, I still have the original shoulder weapons, at some point in the futre I'll be making a Sooper cannon and a Pulsa rokkit with them.)

RSJake wrote:Oh man! This looking great! Love the use of the rhino!

I really love the old rhino, because of the way it was designed you can make a million uses of them. I don't mean to go all gray beard here, but you also used to get three in a box for twenty bucks! (or two land raiders for the same, haha.)

dakkagrot187 wrote: wow i say put led's in his eyes

It would be too much work to put working lights on him, maybe on another model. As far as camera quality goes, you just need good lighting and a proppa background, that's most of the work. even crappy cameras can take good pictures, especially on giant pieces like terrain and Titans.

UPDATE TIME!!!!!

I decided to go with an eyepatch for my Gargant's head. Here's the first layer of brain-casing.

I went with the classic Bale-eye for his other socket. Here is just the basic frame.

Here's the eyeball, mostly done. I also added some frankenstein bolts for the jaw.

Here's the first layer of detail for the other side of his head. the brain will remain exposed, covered in WWII bomber-style frame and glass.

Here's a shot of the first stage of the glass framework.

I'll need to paint and clearcoat all the detail before I can add the glass panes and the last layer of clay. The next step on the head then is to finish the jaw, enclose the bottom cab, and prime.

While that was drying, I shored up the gaps between the engine and the hull.

Lastly, I added a honey comb structure to start the shoulders, followed by the shoulder base.

Gettin' close! Next up will be the painted head, and more shoulder detail!

Thanks! I'm getting pretty excited too, it's getting down to the wire. I'm hoping to be done by January, I just found out that Little Wars in Baton Rouge has an Apocalypse game the first Saturday of every month. (It's the closest store to me and still an hour away, dang it!)

Thanks! I use both plastruct and evergreen, the standard tube diameter I use is 2, 2.4, 3, 3.2, and 3.6 milimeter. basically, go to a train store and see what tubes fit snuggly into the other tubes. if you need really big guns, just use larger gauges. Metal tubes work better for smaller guns, as the thickness of the tube walls is thinner.

There's two issues with having the hatch open. The first is an asthetic issue. I want it to look like an eye patch, that's why there's a tube going around the head. If the eye is open, it's not as obvious. The second issue is pure laziness. if I have the hatch open and a Grot/Ork sticking out, I would need to both paint that model and also detail out everything that could be seen on the inside. Due to the fact I would like to get this done, I'm picking and choosing my extra-detail battles.

Those lazer cut drawings and Warmill castings are crazy. makes me wish I new CAD. (I assume thats the program you/they use?)

UPDATE TIME!!!!!!!!!

I got the head built and primed, WOO-HOO!!!!

Here's the teeth.

Once all his chopers were in place, I added a bit more clay and riveted the entire thing. I don't know why I thought riveting was gonna go quickly, the stupid head is bigger than a Landraider. I wanted to get it primed though, so I burnt the midnight oil and knocked it out.

Once it gets painted, I can add the glass and ribbing over the brain casing. Thanks for looking!

The only criticism I would be able to give to the previous gargant was its paintjob being too plain, lacking any kind of highlights and shading, which is something to be expected of such an old job. As soon as I saw it primed again, I noticed the detailing had a lot of hidden potential behind that paintjob.

But I was not ready for that modeling work wich turned a standard-gargant (which has always been an underwhelming model for me) into an impressive model.

That head is amazing, and that's the way ork titans should look like. Fearsome, and not fatty and blocky.

I thank you for the compliments, I'm just not sure if you realize how confrontational your post is. You do realize you one-upped my Great Gargant by saying "mine is bigger," right?

RSJake wrote:Wow! Loving the head! It looks really wicked! I was kind of sceptical on the clay you used. But primered it looks like twisted metal! great job!

I love my clay! I actually did rush it too quickly though, I have a bit of fingerprinting on it that I'll need to paint over.

mullet_steve wrote:Yeah I understand on the picking and choosing your detail battles. Love the brain case area and those teeth! I am using a very old version of autocad for the drawings.

Maybe one day I'll look into drawing up plans in CAD on an analog thereof. I actually draw up very detailed plans, depending on the project I'm building for. With Orks I tend to be a tad more lax, but with some of the more complicated scratch builds I've drawn up full blueprints complete with paper 3-D models before starting on the styrene, so I think I would only really need to learn the software.

As for detail battles, I'll put in the time if it's going to pay off. Like having the head as the ceterpiece it obviously needs extra detail work, however if I'm not sure an added feature is going to work out or it doesn't look good in sketches, I drop it. Case in point I had worked up plans to give the Gargant an iron gob, but the foamcore mock-up didn't quite look right, so I scrapped it. I'm sure with enough time I could make it work, but just scrapping the idea was more viable due to time.

Tortured-Robot wrote:The head is amazing, that thing is huge!

I really appreciate your comments, they mean a lot. Back when I made this, (eight or so years ago) all I wanted to do was scale up Epic models. I had a ton of them, and still do. getting the details perfect was what I strived for, I really enjoyed a job well done of an up-scale recreation. hell, I even learned to sculpt doing the same thing with Inquisitor models, I made everything from a Graynight Terminator to Fabious Bile.

Once Forgeworld and Apocalypse came out though, I was entranced by their re-interpitations of the classic Epic vehicles. When I started redoing a lot of my older models, I wanted to incoperate that spirt, basically asking myself what could and should be different, whilst still keeping an eye on what details made a model "Iconic." For me, it's designing these new elements, while keeping the spirt of the model intact that is really the most fun. I like for players to see my models and instantly know what race and class of vehicle it is, while at the same time enjoying (hopefully) what I changed to make it my own.

And yeah, I could not paint to save my life back then. I had a little skill, but mostly I wanted it painted and done. Luckily, playing Fantasy gave me an equal enjoyment from painting, so I no longer dread any part of the model making process. (except rivets.)

UPDATE TIME!

ok, I really rambled on there, sorry for that. I started on the shoulders.

First up, I slapped down some plastic in the rough shape.

I realized that I could not have completed shoulders sitting on scaffolding when this was terrain, so I figured out a way to muck it up. I started with adding wireform supports over the entire shoulders, made from .080 strips of both square and round plastic.

Next, I took the handy Dremel and cut out a lot of the sections.

This would allow me to add detail both above and below the should structure.

Something about the shoulders was bugging me, I realized the front tabs are supposed to bend in, so I cut and re-glued.

Much better!
Next, I looked at a few designs I had planned for above the shoulders, but I didn't like any of them. I knew from the previous build that I didn't want huge shoulder cannons or grabba klaws, and I wanted space for models to sit atop. I looked into both castles with guns, and landing/launch pads for Stormboyz and Deffcoptas, but none of my foam mock-ups looked right.
I also tried leaving it open with just a retaining wall and bolt on big shootas, but again it looked wrong, too much open space and the head stuck out too much.
I looked back at other Great Gargants through the years, and of course consulted Kr00zers beloved graph. I decided I really liked the shoulder cannons, and specifically the way they looked in Kr00zers size chart. It would still leave a small space for models to ride atop, and add some AA support to the beast.
I looked at both real world turret designs and naval Destroyer deck guns for inspiration. Eventally I set upon a design that gave me everything I needed.

Here's the Turrets in build order.

The Shell tossers are slightly elevated, it will make em' look cool, plus show off their (ineffective) AA mounts!

The clay on the last pic s very rough, it still needs a few more layers to look proppa. Saddly, I only have one at the clay stage, the other still needs a ton of work.

I spent a lot of time on design, but I'm really happy with the results. The cannons add some good detail, but still have a very slim profile on his back. They dont go above his head, so once I add the right ammount of armor to the shoulders it should look good and proppa.

This is totally incredible! Serious commitment to the cause here man.

I think it's the interior which really puts this from being simply very awesome to just mind-blowing incredible. There's so much scope for what you could do with that, although I understand why you might want to keep it fairly basic. If I could suggest one thing, it would be to add some shells for the belly guns lying around inside, otherwise what would they fire?

Looking forward to seeing it in all it's glory.
