As someone with an enduring love of old school minis and the proud general of a Crimson Fists army, I'm pretty much jumping for joy over here. That model is awesome, and while the price is nuts (should come out to be like, 25-30 bucks?) I'm still going to pick it up because it's such a targeted strike at everything I love about Warhammer.

Well, looks like the money I had set aside for more Tyranids just got re-purposed for large quantities of strong booze. Better luck next month maybe?

Looks pretty nice, but for some reason it really bugs me that they replaced the 'wtf is that thing' weapon with a plasma pistol for some reason...

Not nearly as excited about this as I am about the 2nd Ed BA captain. I think the C-fist dude would have been far more desireable and impressive if they released a set to represent the entire cover, instead of just him. I know the BA captain was surrounded by other elements as well, but the full body view pose and position made him very distinct and recognizable, even on the busy background. He was the star of that cover. I think the RT cover was a star as a whole, not because of that individual marine if that makes sense.

I hope they take the oppurtunity to release more miniatures based on iconic artworks throughout the year... maybe even mining some of the old designs, like a classic tyranid or something...

I thought this too, but felt maybe I was being overcritical........It's not disappointment exactly because the mini looks nice but the devil is in the details. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

The Ghandalf makes a sandwich and Frodo and Sam 3-legged race form a deleted scene in the movie. Oh and Legolas shaving his chest.

Seriously, how many different models of the Fellowship do you freaking need?

LotR was dead in this area 8 years ago! Never once met anyone who has played it, much less actually still does.

This looks freakin' amazing! I play CF and I will be adding this guy if I get the chance. I wish they gave him some old RT style weapons, though.
Oh and, "Now back to me, your flamer gauntlet is now a plasma pistol!"

Looking again, the pose is really off too, the angles of the limbs do not match at all... Not a deal-breaker, but after the near flawless translation of the BA captain, the little off things on this one are piling up for me.

I probably would have liked it a whole lot more if it was just released as a character, not directly related to the artwork to compare it with....

I feel like if it was as rigidly posed as the artwork it would be supremely goofy looking. Right now it's close enough to be recognizable, but modernized. I do wish he had that vacuum cleaner looking thing on his wrist instead of the plasma pistol, but I still dig this model a lot.

I wish they would have been more faithful to the armor actually. Being my first exposure to 40K I always liked that armor and wished that they had made some miniatures of it.

You have fantasy which is basicly LOTR but better.

fluff wise anyway.

Just because no one plays the game in your neck of the woods doesn't mean no one plays it.

Round my neck of the woods no one (over 12) plays 40k. Doesn't mean it no longer exists...

Sheesh! Could 40k players get more ignorant?

But what's important is that you've found a way to feel superior to people and fermet dissatisfaction and an air of constant tedious conflict.

Guess the "50% of content for 66% of price" boxes will be the major part of the miniature release

So the 40k year starts with Vampires and LOTR. Okaaayyy.

Some news by Romanus over at Warseer:
Can confim no Necrons or Nid next month, however there is the release of the Necron and Vampire Counts Battalion Box sets along with something called the Deathknell watch for fantasy, other then that some interesting Black Library releases and some 40k combo kits (Tac Squad and Drop Pod etc) for 40k, all the rest is unfortunatley LOTR.

Cheers,
Rom

Deathknell seems to be the rumoured new Fantasy Fortress. More in this extra-thread. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/425668.page

Don't get too excited. I'm pretty sure the Marine/Pod combo will cost the same as buying a Tac Squad and a Pod separately.

As for why LOTR? Well the hobbit comes out this year and we already know GW has won the licence (well that was no surprise really).

I think this issue is a more getting the ball rolling on a number of things.

GW want to reignite interest in the LOTR games before the Hobbit comes around where they will hopefully have everyone jumping over the new minis there.

Also 40k gets re-done this summer and as Kroothawk points out isn't the anniversary while October. In this issue GW gets the ball rolling on a number of promotional pushes. Simple really

They used to have a 10 guardsmen + chimera deal that was something like only $45... but that was the old chimera, and years ago (when did apocalypse come out even?)

And step one of this plan was to halve the contents of their LOTR plastic boxes whilst simultaneously raising the price. Off to a good start.

As soon as I see gandalf on the cover of WD, I know I'm in for disappointment. I was really hoping for more fantasy and 40k, I mean is anyone going to play this game a year after the hobbit gets released? It's quite frustrating.

Although the 25th anniversary model does look nice, it doesn't really live up to the hype IMO.

Cool model.. but why do all of the limited edition SM models have power fist raised up with gun pointed out? THis is like the third model with a similar pose for a limited model

Considering there are still playing the game well over five years since the last LotR movie, yeah, they probably will. I haven't seen a game of it in a long, long time, but someone out there still plays it or else GW wouldn't be making models for the game still.

The Marine isn't bad, nice to reference the Rogue Trader cover, but I'll probably pass, can't see me doing anything with him. Well unless the 6th Box set totally surprises everyone and comes with Crimson Fists.

Lotr month is a bit of a wash out, but I'm not going to go mad over it, saves me having to worry about trying to buy more Necrons and have them painted by early March.

Other than that I'll have a look on Monday when the mag arrives at the shop.

I posted specific info in the relevant threads (Deathknell Watchtower, LOTR, Necron battleforce, vampire batallion).

Here some general info:
Indeed mostly LOTR stuff and releases. No "Return of the King Game"pun in German (Instead: "Special Anniversary Edition").

If you flip the magazine, you have 41 pages of 40k. Small retroperspective with pics, some double sided battle pics, a huge planetary/assault/city/apocalypse battle report.

On 25th February, all GW stores wil celebrate 25 years of 40k (yeah, a bit early). Limited supplies for a special mousepad, arm bands, "Rogue Trader" posters and 40k badges.

No combo kit drop pod /Tactical .

Warhammer Fantasy Civil War Expansion only features three more amry sheets:
Orcs&Goblins, Tomb Kings and Warriors of Chaos.

Special rules and a scenario for the Deathknell Watchtower.

I hate WD what the hell are they thinking, that mag is just a giant commerical for the next months releases.
The only good thing is the Masterclass painting arcticles and they put them in a separate book.
The time has come to bring back Black Gobbo where it was just painting and conversions.
