I'm sorry you chose to understand my post as you being required to do such. I never said you did, so please don't make statements based upon statements which were not present.
Kanluwen wrote:Not to be mean, but many "parties" from companies where you work at them or fundraiser events at colleges, etc require you to put money into the party and it goes towards the goodybags given out at the end. It's only "private" parties(birthdays, etc) where you don't have to pay for a party bag at the end.
I have seen GW compared to many things in the past but never a fundraiser.
The thing is that when I go to a fundraiser I am happy to go and pay to help whatever it is they are raising money for. GW is not raising money for a charity, they are making a profit and now to thank us (the public) for spending our money with them they are letting us spend more.
Once again, please do not put words in my mouth. You chose to fixate upon the "fundraiser events"(leaving out the "at colleges" part and flatout ignoring the "parties from companies where you work at them" bits). I did not say that GW is a charity(nor did I ever say charity in my post).
My point was that a lot of places which do celebratory stuff to mark their anniversaries or other events have items which they sell to commemorate the occasion, and in addition they have other items which are free.
By separating the "free" commemorative items from the "purchased" stuff, it adds a bit of value to the purchased items and an inflated rarity.
A good example of this is the San Diego Comic Con exclusive items which toy companies sell only at the convention.
No GW shop nearby? you actually solved that one already. Put the same offer online. (free model if you spend X amount).
They actually did this for awhile with a specific Space Marine Sergeant model.
You know what the end result was?
They still have enough of them to use them as "exclusives" when a new section of their webshop opens up. People don't buy direct from GW if they can help it. Having a single piece with a nostalgic draw and the tag "limited" allows them to control the distribution, to a point, and furthermore see whether or not the interest is there to do something similar again.
I should have been a bit more clear in my original post, I hope this clarifies my stance a bit better for you Floris.

Sadly, I like this year's Game Day model enough that I would break my little embargo and buy it if offered online, even in finecast. This 25th anniversary model? Nah.

I don't blame you. When I saw that BA I was like, "damn, that guy looks cool!"
However, I don't collect BA, and I am maintaining my anti-finecast stance so no Gamesday model for me.

Well, I for one am looking forward to wandering into the local GW at lunchtime on the 25th and opening limited edition boxes until I find one that's free of flaws...

Preorder is probably gonna happen for me on this one. Love the model and I like finecast. Don't know if I'm lucky or just enjoy the modeling aspect but aside from the occasional bubble-pit or bend (which Forge World has taught me alot about) I've never had reason to send one back. I mean I like metal minis but this resin does make things a bit easier when it works.

I almost got two as well lol. One to paint and one to keep in the purdy box. Decided against it as I'd prefer a new 3DS game lol. Just got some more green stuff so my order was over $40.
Hey, I've been into GW since I was in grade 5 and went to England for the summer (26 now). So this was really a must have. TAKE MY MONEY GW.
Not too interested in the LotR stuff. But hey if it's selling enough for them to keep it going...good for them. As someone else said I'm sure "The Hobbit" movie will generate a lot of interest back into Middle Earth from all the Holywoodnewbs.

I can't believe GW is using the 25th anniversary of WH40K to release LOTR stuff. Nobody even plays that game!!
(Sorry, I was under the impression that every page of this thread had to have a sentence like that somewhere. I feel like I've had to skip every other post to get here.)
Ahem. Moving on....I would really rather buy the model at a lower price without the scenic base. Finecast doesn't bother me, if that's the way it has to be (I'm an oldie who doesn't even have a FC model yet), but a huge scenic base means nothing when I want to field him in a game.
And if we're going Rogue Trader themed, will he have a special rules where he's back to T3 with a 4+ armor save?

Unless you've been living under a rock recently, you can't have failed to notice that Warhammer 40,000 is celebrating its 25th birthday this year. To honour the event, we will soon release the miniature above, which is based on the artwork from the first edition of Warhammer 40,000 (also known as Rogue Trader). Many of you will have ordered yours already, which is fortunate, because we have now run out of stock in our Australian warehouse and we only have a couple of hundred left in Europe and the US, though that number is rapidly diminishing right before our eyes. So for those of you that still can, you need to place your order soon.
So what does that mean if you didn't manage to get one in time? Every Games Workshop Hobby Centre will be hosting a Warhammer 40,000 birthday party on 25th February to celebrate 25 years of warfare in the grim darkness of the far future. Every store will also have a limited stock of these models. Put it this way, you will need to be outside your Hobby Centre very early on Saturday 25th, scratching at the front door like a Genestealer at a bulkhead, to make sure you don't miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime model. Once they're gone, they will be gone forever - you're only 25 once, you know.
To find out what your Games Workshop Hobby Centre is doing to celebrate the Warhammer 40,000 birthday, make sure you have a chat to the staff or check out their Facebook page. Some stores have already planned out their events, including an Arena of Death; huge mega-battles the size of the entire store; speed painting contests - some of which involve blindfolds (which will almost certainly give unique results); and apparently there will be plenty of cake, which may (or may not) be shaped like a Land Raider depending which store you visit.
so it could well be that the only way to get one now/soon will be to toddle along to your local store on the 25th and arrive early.
True to form then GW released this today :
which handily plugs the model you now can no longer order.
Who says GW don't know how to market eh ?

My problem with this model is the plasma pistol. On one hand, we've always wondered what gun that actually was. On the other, the model doesn't match the painting, which destroys it for me. It's sort of an absurd ret-conning that didn't need to be done. For me, it was a minus, not a plus.
On a brighter note, in Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, they did remove the part where Little Orphan Annie predicts he'll marry Queen Amidala....

I actually happen to like the 25th anniversary model and preordered it from GW while on the road from work. I'll be happy when I get it and I'll post a review when it comes in in this thread. At that price I expect perfection, so I may become GW's new fedex buddy if problems exist. I have a feeling though that it will be flawless. Faith or idiotic hope-you decide.

Well I laughed.
I suppose, since he's a Captain, he'd have the nowadays obscenely-powerful Major Hero statline with WS7, etc., which would go some way to compensating. Ideally, of course, he'd have Cool, Intelligence and Willpower stats too...

Considering there are still playing the game well over five years since the last LotR movie, yeah, they probably will. I haven't seen a game of it in a long, long time, but someone out there still plays it or else GW wouldn't be making models for the game still.
If i had to guess, they will release the LOTR stuff, so not to lose the rights to it, that way, they have control over it, and no else can release the game later.

For a 25th Anniversary figure I was expecting more than this kit bashed looking Crimson Fist. Nice that they gave him a mkVI torso but why didn't they give him an old model backpack too (it looks like FW supplied the torso so what not the pack) instead of what looks like the same one you get with the Crimson Fist upgrade pack? The helmet is a mess because they've essentially added the missile launcher nose to an existing helmet, they didn't even bother to use the beakie one. What they should have done is done a new sculpt based on the RT original beakie helms. If they are not going to do that then why bother with what quite frankly is a half arsed sculpt.
The same with the plasma pistol, how difficult would it have been to make a wrist mounted weapon akin to the one in the painting, instead they use a regular bog standard plasma pistol with a power cable attaching to the front of it for some reason. Very little effort was put into creating this figure which given the circumstances (25th anniversary) is pretty insulting. I collect corvus armour but I wont be getting this one, and certainly not at the price they're selling this unoriginal figure for which I could make myself from my bitz box.

that's the sort of helmet he has in the artwork not just him, but his fellow-marines.
Though I have to agree about the backpack and the pistol
Still, it's a great model
And my luck with finecast still stands, NOT A SINGLE MISCAST!!!!
