Try telling that to Tyranid players.

At the very least, as to run down metal stock since they're making a full switch anyhow.

Anyway that miniature does look good and brings fond memories of simpler times, however it also bring back more recent memories like when I checked the contents of my bank account.

Turn that frown upside down, Tyranid players!

Tyranid players are used to disappointment, much like my wife.

And yes, yes, yes, you hate Finecast. Which is really tragic because of how much Finecast loves you.

How else would you make people fondly remember Rogue Trader than to remind them how much better they had things back then?

The rumour was Tyranids start of February, Necrons end of February/early March. If they got bumped back a month, it would mean Tyranids early March, Necrons late March/early April.

Instead of the Tyranids and Necrons to celebrate 40k's 25th anniversary (months ahead of schedule), we get Gandalf and more expensive LotR models.

I am disappoint. I am so, so, disappoint.

It wouldn't be the 40K fandom without hyperbolic doom saying, would it?

That model looks great, will definitely have to pick myself up one of those. Pretty disappointed in the LOTR feature.

1.) On the top of the cover it is Return of the "King Game", not "Return of the King" Game (the game returns, not the king, so a little pun).
2.) I added the info to the LOTR thread.
3.) This February edition is indeed covering the celebration of 25 years of 40k, see cover text and anniversary miniature.
4.) Wikipedia says that "Rogue Trader was officially released at Games Workshop's annual Games Day event in October 1987". But being a British company, the Queen also celebrates her birthday on another day.
5.) Well, I am a bit disappointed, but can wait for another month. Cheap month for me as well.

I'd imagine they would celebrate the actual birthday with the 6th edition box set in september/october. You know to match the previous 3 years of big box releases in september/october...

The Finecast part is even more of a deal killer than the 26 euros. Living in what GW would call 'the rest of the world' my only option is to mail order it. Which means I have to mail it back if there are bubbles or miscasts and hope #2 is good.

Not worth the hassle.

Rubbish rubbish rubbish. Not impressed, especially with all of the rumours about 40K. The anniversary model is ok though. Glad I've got lots of other stuff to keep me busy, and as people have said, cheap month for me too.

How do you return a bubbled limited edition finecast? What if they run out.

As a person who spends a lot of my free time supporting Warhammer 40K and trying to grow a gaming community, I'm incredibly disappointed by the concept of a Lord of the Rings White Dwarf for the 25th anniversary of Rogue Trader.

Yes.

That would suggest they CARE about their customers.

Come to think of it, the 25th anniversary model really ought to have been cast in good old-fashioned lead.

Or scrimshawed from Brian Ansell's bones, or something...

Personally I like the idea behind GW doing limited edition models. However at the price they are charging for the model and the fact that it is in Finecast, I reckon it is an extremely bad buy.

But has anyone considered the fact that GW may be building up to releasing a load more 40k things all in one go, as in 3 or 4 months of mainly 40k things with the odd bit of Fantasy and LOTR thrown in to keep everyone happy?

Thats what I was thinking. I mean, this year is the 25th anniversary...why would someone fill a whole years worth of releases and celebration for one month? I think we are going to be suprised and all the complainers will be eating crow.

Just because you dont play WoTR or LoTR in your area doesnt mean its dead, just means no one plays it in your area. My local store doesnt play it at all but the manager asked why. We had no answer except it sucks, but once again, why? We had no answer, so we tried out the game (WoTR) and amaziningly its fun, especially after playing 40k and fantasy for 20+ years, its a refreshing change.

Am I disappointed there isnt a bigger release on Feb 25th, sure am; but that means more then likely we will see a huge wave of releases during the year. oh and that model rocks, dont care about the price, its just awesome. great for collectors.

As the Mini is in celebration of 25 years of 40k, wouldn't 25 bucks or 25 euros make more sense? Just sayin...

It is a lot of bones, but I like the model. I have Rogue Trader, and like the GD model, nostalgia filtered through Diaz's skill works for me. That said, I'll get mine in store for Finecast purposes.

40k combo kits? Harry did mention some more fantasy terrain though...

Unlikely, much more likely to be like Harry the Hammerer. Available online and large numbers available. Hopefully they have a scheme in place for replacing miscasts though!
