Yeah... good luck with that. I don't think it would go down too well - remember that time he put the kid in the oven?

Yup. Pure family entertainment.
Seriously though I've seen what's on most of the Kid's TV channels and it's mostly preschool brain solvent. As soon as my kids see the bright colours and flashing images they are hypnotised so I try to stear them away from TV and don't have one in the house.

Never put a TV in the bedroom! It ruins the better parts of a relationship.
My partner puts carefully choosen programs on for our kids. My 2 1/2 year old daughter is currently working on her letter recognition and basic number work; My 1 1/2 year old son can identify all major body parts by name and is working on his colours and just starting to name colours. If they spent all thier time watching sponge bob caper about I think they would just be inert blobs by comparison.
We are teaching them as many colour names as we can as studies have shown colour recognition is linked to language development.

Meh, though Salad fingers was a bit creepy, not something I'd show my children. However, I do agree that most modern TV is terrible, not just the stuff aimed at kids either.

As I don't have a TV I often get lost when people at work start discussing the eggs factor or some other peice of quality programming. I honestly feel that I am saving my life from a serious loss of time by skipping it.

I'll just step in to point out that some TV is actually really good for kids.
Sesame Street or Blue's Clues, for example, actually do an amazing job of educating small children. There have been TONS of studies done on Sesame Street and they all agree that watching it as a young child (pre-K) has long-term benefits throughout your life.
I'm not saying you can just rely on those shows. But, supplementing active parenting with those shows is, in fact, beneficial.

I'm a big fan of the concept of bilingual kid's shows. The earlier you can introduce children to multiple languages, the easier it is for them to learn.

I find a laptop and projector are far better suited to slideshow presentations as you don't damage the screen with your pointer.
