IMO, chaos could begin to grow under no finer auspices. Someone recently posted regarding DA that if Mat Ward writes it at least DA will be good on the table. What's Phil Kelly up to these days? I wouldn't mind a Chaos book full of undercosted weapons.

Are you kidding me?

We're going to have the Secrets of Chaos Reviled!

THE EMPEROR IS HORUS!

Abaddon's Black Crusades are him protesting being sent to his room (the Eye of Chaos).
The Grey Knights are his minders, meant to keep him from doing anything too silly.

Daemons are figments of your imagination.

Make a core codex for the cults and *vanilla* (black legion)CSM's and then make a seperate codex for word beareres, iron warriors etc.

It would be a lot of fun .

What would be fun about extending the entire update cycle by 5 years?

What would be fun about it is that there would be a pile more flavor! I would absolutely love to be able to use the different legions in my chaos army for something other than playing apocalypse or having different colour models on the table.

Like I said before, for me any change is great change! I'm really tired of playing the same 5 units over and over because they are the only semi competetive units in the entire dex.

I wonder if there going to be any named deamon princes? Would be interesting? Any Change is good really for chaos, I mean yeah taking deamons out sucked but there not going to put them back in otherwise there be a load of deamon players complaining how they lost there codex
Also if possessed do become better I may do an whole army of them? It's word bearers that are more possessed right?

Plus it's fairly credible that a GW marketing campaign for their biggest release would fit on one side of A4 - Flashman

That'd be me! Of course the other two options are Cruddence, and Jervis. Which is like asking do you want to be underpowered and weak or streamlined and invalidated by the next vanilla dex.

gorgon wrote:FWIW, I had heard (from someone and not the rumor mill) a while back that the original plan was for the existing CSM book to cover renegades, with a Legions book to come. But then the plan changed. So that kinda jibes with StraightSilver's info. Guess we'll see.

It was right after they released the Chaos Marine Codex and there were so many disappointed people who really hated the way the "new" codex took most of their stuff and made it either too generic or useless (kai guns anyone?!?). When they got a ton of complaints about how bland the codex was, Jervis brought it up in a Standard Bearer column and said they planned on doing Chaos Demons with the possibility of doing a Traitor Legions Codex as well. At that point, the rumors started to fly all over the place. There was even talk that the Legions Codex would be coming out shortly after a plastic thunderhawk would be released so those who have watched portent, dakka, and warseer over the years knew the chances of getting any of these in the near future were slim to nil.

Now the way I see it, the Traiter Legions Codex will probably replace the Chaos Space Marines Codex because all of the special characters will be re-written in the next book (Abbadon, Typhon, Lucious, Kharn, Ahriman, and maybe Bile ?, etc.). They wouldn't want two versions of the special characters running around so it wouldn't surprise me if they just replaced that codex. I would guess that they would do something along the lines of give everyone a chaplin-esque character, sorceror, two versions of captain (lord/champion), and Demon Prince. Then they would have a Terminator unit, possessed, Dreads, and chosen. Troops would be cult troops, standard marines, and possibly assault marines. Fast Attack would be bikes, raptors, and some sort of fast vehicle. Heavy Support would be a Devastator unit, land raiders (hopefully more than standard variant?!), Oblits, Preds/Demolisher cannon tank, and Defiler. I would expect the new kits to be a new generic marine unit, a dread, a new land raider, new fast attack unit, and maybe a new terminator unit (akin to Assault Termies). Again, this is just the way I see it.

wouldn't be the first time they've done something like that
These rumors are in addition to the notion that the Chaos Renegade book isn't being replaced by the Chaos Legions book. Red Corsairs not being further expanded on in a Chaos Legions book makes a lot of sense. IF GW decides to stay the course and support 3 chaos codices: Legion, Renegade, and Daemons, then it only makes sense that when they update Renegades, it will put Red Corsairs further in the limelight and emphasize ex-loyalists over ex-legionaries.

I'm inclined to believe this isn't replacing that codex, that they will simply lift the characters they want and when they get back around to the Renegade book replace those characters.

I wasn't referring to the rumor mill online or the reaction to the CSM codex. What I'd heard from someone that I trust is that there was a plan for a Legions book from the get-go. Gav originally wrote the CSM book with that in mind, but plans changed, leaving us with an incomplete vision (and leaving Gav hung out to dry).

Don't even joke about that gak.

why? Gods forbid we actually get a codex which is competitive and fun to play... those few pages of fluff in the 'dexes are better ignored for BL work etc anyway, and horrible fluff and sometimes silly names aside, Ward's a decent writer. quite consistent, too. You'd prefer cruddace? that would make for two tragically unplayable chaos marine dexes. no thanks, sir.

Horrible fluff aside, Ward's a decent writer? Really? I didn't think you can be a decent writer if the stuff you write is horrible.

I think his point was more to say that given their mix and match form due to their seemingly let anyone in attitude, they play more like renegades then like any other legion.

Given the very separated and legion defined nature of this codex, it will be interesting to see what happens with Black Legion. They obviously shouldn't have unfettered access to all of the things that distinguished each of the other Legions, or that deliniation becomes pointless.

The fact that you can do better counts-as Legion armies using the various Marine Codices speaks volumes about how bland and boring the current 'Chaos' Codex.

Ok, I mean I was pretty sure I got the meaning of your post but just wanted to make sure. Thanks.

If taking demons totally out gives more space for the actual Traitor Legions and their cults and so forth, then I am totally for their removal. I mean, there is an entire Codex for Chaos Demons right? What do they need space in C:CSM for?

The fact the Grey Knights can take characterful demons but Chaos Marines cannot is a strong indicator that something somewhere went very, very wrong.

The Emperor's Children took them out for dinner and a movie, brought flowers and totally called them the next day to see how things are going.

The Ward-verse is a lot like Bizzaro World.

They aren't always right, or my interpretation isn't, and timings change, but I have spoken to them at length regarding this Codex, as well as Gav Thorpe and Alessio Cavatore who wrote Codex CSM and their opinions all seem to agree in one form or another.

It is only rumour though, so I guess nobody really knows for sure.

It also makes complete sense from a business perspective. The strength of the marine codexes is that there is so much manufacturing crossover. If you want to continually make broad codexes with a long lifetime, they need a certain variation, which you can do cheap if the variations come from the same core.

I'm in two minds about that. I mean, his style might actually work for the Emperor's Children, since they're not all that deep any more, what with the insanity and all, but I'm also mortally afraid he's try make the entire reason for the Heresy be that Horus realised he wasn't as good as Guilliman and that Abaddon secretly follows the Codex Astartes, hoping to match the Ultramarines in greatness.

And of course, we'd end up with Chaos Space Marines wielding Chaos Swords and Warp Guns in Chaos Armour led by a Chaos Lord in with Chaos Wings using a Chaos Daemon weapon... it's bad enough already.

Arguing with some people is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can play the best chess in the world, but at the end of the day the pigeon will still knock all the pieces off the board and then gak all over it.
