Subject: Coolest/Fluffiest Ally combo you can come up with!
Well, as i have always wanted to start up a thousands sons only army, i think i am going to buy Arhiman, a thousand sons squad, and a squad of chaos terminators and convert them to look like thousand sons. It is going to be awesome, may not be the best list, but its awesomeness will compensate for that. and those thousand sons will be used in conjuction with my IG, so maybe fluff wise i will have a traitor guard contingent following arhiman around?

Or better yet IG who have been tricked into believing that the Thousand Sons are real marines who need the Guard's support to relieve the system of outside forces, believing that IoM are actually the heretics. Or something along those lines I think would be sweet, having the God of Scheming swaying forces of good without them even knowing it!

nice, because my IG are painted up as loyalists, so i like the idea of arhiman fething with their brains and tricking them into fighting for him or something along those lines

The HQ unit has to be one that occupies a slot on the FOC, right?
Core: Sisters of Battle
Allied: Imperial Guard
- HQ: Lord Commissar (alternative forms of displays: Ministorum Confessor, Mistress of Novices)
- Troop: Infantry Platoon (alternative forms of display: Frateris Militia band, Sororitas Novice Squads)
- Fast Attack: Valkyrie Transport Squadron w/ SoB markings

I finally get to use Valkyries and Stormtroopers in my GK list!
Grey Knights as core with Imperial Guard allies, the Grey Knights supply a less-mobile ground line of transports and PAGK squads with a few Terminators for heavy-hitters, the Guard supply an infantry platoon and some Stormtroopers, the Inquisitor, his retinue, the Stormtroopers, and the command squad ride in a full Valkyrie squad.
At least, that's the theory. I need more regular IG miniatures first.
On a side note, since I decided to sell off my Khorne troops and switch my Chaos army over to mono-Tzeentch, I've only got one Troops choice for my Chaos army, but they'd probably make good allies for my Dark Eldar. Keep a core of Tzeentchian Terminators and Thousand Sons to stall the enemy, pin them down, and have the main force of Dark Eldar chew them up from the sides inwards.
Grey Knights and Sisters of Battle led by an Inquisitor with a Stormtroopers bodyguard unit.
The army ive been wanting to field eversince the days of Codex Daemon hunters and Codex Witch Hunters. ( there shouldve been a codex Xenos hunters too >_< The ordo Xenos gets no love )
The obvious fluffy choice would be Tau and IG with the IG being converted to shiny looking Gue'Vesa. Not only would this be fully fluffy, But the amount of firepower this could produce makes me drool.
And ofcourse Traitor Guard and either CSM or Daemons. all perfectly fluffy. With a properly converted posessed IG commander. They are all pawns of the daemon. hmmmm... crap i might have just talked myself into a possible new army in place of my signature options.
Ork WAAAGH Zapzog: roughly 4000 points and ever growing. Tau Cadre of Zuran'Ki: 3000 points. Grey Knights Interdiction Force Galeon : 2500 points. Tyranid Hive Fleet Crateria: 2500 Points. The Host of Hadrekon: 1500 points. Catachan 44th Swamp hunters. 800 points.
2000 points Skaven Army. Arcsqueeks Horde 1000 points Vampire Counts Army. Duke Valmai's Court. 1000 Points Dwarven Army. Bhor Grimhammers Throng. Planning to get some Ogres later this year.
Curse you Snake-eyes!
Anyone too hung up on something as silly as the allies chart to let you field that doesn't DESERVE to see that beautiful monstrosity in action...

Its certainly nice to be able to field an imperial force with an inquisitor in tow, add some grey knights or retinue if its Coeteaz.
other things I want to do: Take some predators with a guard list and have them painted in guard colors. Who says the guard can't use the cool astartes tanks?
Or a guard unit that uses captured tanks like hammerheads. For the HQ just use an ethereal (as a munitorum adept) and some fire warriors as guard with captured weapons
We're watching you... scum.

I really miss my old daemonhunters army. It has a fun background and was hardly the most powerful thing on the block, but it interested me and was unique...
It started with a radical inqusitor lord and his 3 daemonhosts. He had his own private army of Inquisitorial stormtroopers. After some missions he came in contact with a space marine chapter and decided it would be helpful to have a space marine chapter at his beck and call and he began to subvert them. He started with the neonates in the scout company and hoped to eventually over take the whole chapter.
So the list usually included the Lord and his retainers, 3 daemonhosts, 3 stormtrooper squads and 2 marine scout squads as troops. The biggest weakness of the force was that there were not as many heavy weapons available for my use, so I relied more on special weapons in the stormtrooper squads to take out enemy armor, and the daemonhosts would deepstrike in and cause havoc to keep the enemy big guns tied up while my scout snipers picked them off. Led to many fun an enjoyable games. Not exactly a doable list anymore, though. :(
Btw, thanks for the walk down memory lane AND most importantly a 6th edition thread that isn't spouting the end of the world.

I like it. Especially considering that the a typical IG commander may not be privy to the fact that there are Space Marines that have fallen to chaos either. Have to love that enforced ignorance of the imperium. I do miss the days of exterminatus, though. When regular IG and space marine forces would be sent to fight a chaos incursion and then the space marines would be memorywiped and retrained while the rest of the forces on the planet were killed with the population to prevent any word of chaos getting out to the public at large. Those were the days...

I like every instance of ork+Allies of conveniance. It opens up so many fun convertions and shores up so many gaming weaknessess.
Orks with a looted armored company? Yes please!
Orks with killa-kan railguns? Yes please!
Orks with imperial weapons on their killa kans? Yes please!
Deep striking gretchin stormtroopers? Sure hy not
Orks with gretchin pulse rifle squads? Sure why not?
Orks with slave platoon fire support? Sure why not?
Orks with looted hoverskiffs and plasma rifles? Sure why not?
And so on and on and on..........
Aside from all the obvious choises (Ork looters, Chaos undivided) i find lots of mixes appealing. the prospect of mixing units from Marine dexes together is immensely pleasing, it will both allow me to use my "One army to represent all" idea to an even greater extent, and the fluffy idea of chapters working together gives me the willy-nillies. Regardless of all the specific specialist units from each dex that could compliment other armies (BA assault marines coubled with SW grey hunters and longfangs) The simple idea that you can mix and match different armies is a meritful idea on its own.
My choises will include Tau+Eldar (Battlesuit spam supported by War walkers, with a healthy mix of firewarriors and Dire avengers running around), Orks+Necrons (Ork horde with a few elite necron units hiding in the swarm, ready to strike the deadly blow), Eldar+Dark eldar (I think that Eldar hating Dark eldar and vice-versa is bogus, sure they dont see eye to eye but ultimately they are brothers, kinsfolk, family, and when push comes to shove family stick together, whatever the selfish reasons for doing so may be)

The units I'm working on are allies for my Tau army.
Tau love allies, after all. Here are my ideas.
Imperial Guard- Standard Gue'Vesa, obviously :p Get some cadians, kitbash em with Fire Warriors, file the Imperial markings of their Chimera, and we're good.
Orks! Plan on having some Ork Shoota Boy/Loota allies who'll be right in the back with the Tau, strangely happy to be working with the Greater Good..
Plan to have at least one Crisis Suit wearing some kind of suspicious looking helmet, as well as having the rest of the Orkz be wearing something similar.
AND IT SHALL BE GLORIOUS

Space Wolves (no rune priest) and Black Templars.
Imperial Guard with Black Templars.
I've been wanting to build a Templar Army, but as I already have several others couldn't really justify it. Now I can have some of the coolest parts of the codex working hand in hand with my current armies.
I'm also excited about guard with daemons.

Imperial Guard with Inquisitor and Sisters allied - not exactly a novel idea, but I like the Inquisition. If done well, really impressive with a lot of character. The Ordo Hereticus have come out of Sixth Ed. really, really well, as we get to take full advantage of the Guard, the lovely Forgeworld models for the tanks of the Adepta Sororitas etc. All we need now are some better models for the Sisters... are you listening, GW? Or Forgeworld, if GW won't. In fact, I'd prefer resin Sisters, really nicely done like the DKOK or Elysians, with an Imperial Armour book to themselves, but I digress...

Coteaz Henchmen and Dark Eldar Archon retinue, they make an incredibly flavorful Radical Ordo Xenos with a TON of different Xeno species (some count-ass models would pop it even more, say Death Cult assasins modeled as brain-controlled Genestealers).
Waaagh!

Ooh! Very clever. I would have to put you to death for heresy and consorting with Xenos, , but before I did, I would tell you your army looked wonderful!

My guard army advancing across the field supported by the fire of heavy weapons teams, mortars to pin the enemy in place and missile launchers to pin them in place (done up like recoilless rifles, the mortars will be small bore ones, band of brothers style). Striding at their side are space marines of the imperial fist chapter, bolters roaring, the sergeant's powerfist raised as he pours it on with his combi-flamer (squad has a HB and flamer...I was thinking ML but I like HB, and it seems like more of an advancing infantry support weapon). As they hit the line, from the skies, Lysander arrives roaring in a drop pod, surrounded by the veterans of the company (Sternguard).
Why, you may ask? Because I like the fists, I like the idea of tac marines helping advance, and most of all the yellow will be GREAT for breaking up the green of my foot horde.
I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...
