Well it's Kotaku/Polygon*, and their new head of entertainment was the previous head of The Mary Sue (one step above Jezzabel), so it shouldn't be too long now.

*Yes, they're interchangeable.

I wonder if NAS should be its own thread.

And if so, whether it belongs in News & Rumors, Board Games, or in Misc. Miniatures Games.

I'm sure it will have it's own thread in N&R once the Kickstarter gets going. After it ends it will get moved to board games.

Schmapdi's got it!

Does that mean he volunteers to run the N&R KS thread for it?

Or did John already do that?

I have no problem "running" the thread, if that would be helpful. I just wasn't sure what the protocol was, and didn't want to step on someone's toes by doing it "wrong". Not knowing, and things being very early, I figured it would be best to ask first.

I was just kidding John - there's really no 'wrong' way to do it, other than the fact that it is easier and more helpful if the OP is someone who will keep the thread title and 1st post up to date, of course!

Announcing Relic Knights: Void Break

Soda Pop Miniatures announces the new expansion for the Relic Knights® miniature skirmish game: Void Break. Void Break provides a new entry point to join the Relic Knights® game, with a complete ruleset that incorporates errata and updates from over a year of player feedback and every unit entry, both old and new.

Taking place two years after the events of Darkspace Calamity, Void Break continues the Relic Knights® story with new fiction, backgrounds, and history. Void Break introduces over 40 new units across the existing six factions, greatly expanding players’ options when building their cadres. Among the new units, each faction gains access to a new Questing Knight and Relic Knight to lead their forces and unlock new gameplay combinations.

The final models from Darkspace Calamity will begin monthly release in July of this year, with the first Void Break units beginning in September and continuing through the launch of the Void Break book in early 2016. To better capture their stunning detail and over-the-top anime aesthetic, each new and dynamic model will be featured in resin, with large, centerpiece models in plastic.

.. mutter, mutter, invalidating rulebook too fast, unfair, moan, moan...

actually I'm pleased they are doing this and taking the game forward especially if there's a decent amount of new story/background in there

As to the minis being resin with the large centrepieces in plastic...

Hmm their resin LE stuff has been ok but not brilliant quality wise so I hope they step up the quality (and reduce the parts count) for the new stuff (or reduce the prices)

It's interesting that they have chosen to go back to resin for the miniatures the PVC clearly wasn't holding the anime detail of the faces I'm glad they've decided to go this route but hopefully they don't price the individual models beyond what reasonable to build a force - I know they are small numbers wise but still there comes a price point where you just say no.

Their resin has been a bit hit and miss in the past and as you say to many small fiddly parts that are badly attached to the sprues. They had to retire King Starfire as there was just to many problems casting it.

Oh and I really hope they can keep the scale consistent now the newer minis are clearly a larger scale than the older stuff to the point that stuff like the Prefects are unusable with the Novitiates

Printing errata in the rulebook as part of a 1.5 edition? That's good stuff.

Hope the starter rulebook is A5, not A6 format - A6 was just unreadable.

If the rules are available for free, then no big deal about a new rulebook this 'quickly'.

If not...

Relic Knights v1 released to backers in June 2014.

Relic Knights v1.5 is releasing early 2016. That's roughly 2 years, or about the same timeframe as 40k 6E to 7E.

That's not necessarily something I'd hold up as an example to emulate!

This is actually great news.

I really was fond of Relic Knights. It was astoundingly unique in it's way of play. But there were/are still a number of issues that really, REALLY need a new edition. For example, a number of scenarios were simply unbalanced, and many abilities (especially damage re-directs) were just too common.

Also, Squads being utterly useless was a big problem. But all of this stuff totally could be solved with a new edition!

Huh. I might have to check this out.

I've built a pretty sizable out of all the available Noh models at this point, might as well look into playing the actual game.

I'm assuming (hoping?) this is going to be a direct release rather than a Kickstarter?

Would you rather we looked at Imperial Knights as the reference point? That's going to be what? 1 year?

I think 2 years is not a bad timeframe, given that 1E had a few minor issues to iron out and clean up. SPM pays attention to those sorts of things, so I think 1.5E will be a net positive.

Not sure how you ended up thinking I'd be happier with a shorter time between editions...

Either way, I'm not terribly worried since I'm pretty sure the rules will be available as a free PDF download.

In general, if I'm actively playing something, and the rules are getting cleaned up, I would prefer a 1.1 or 1.5 printed ruleset over FAQ & Errata. If rules to my main game were released annually and incrementally refined with minimal changes, I would be OK with that.

Where it's not good is where those are changed for reasons other than cleaning up problems and streamlining play, but rather to change things just because.

Agree - I ended up passing on Relic Knights after wavering for some time and have been glad I did. As they too often ended up on the "miss" side of hit or miss. The problem switching gears now is that they have a crappy foundation to build upon, so even if the new minis turn out terrific you wind up with the range still being a pass.

Ditto. I'm been poking (as have some others) to get errata cards printed for the 2 dozen or so SDE:TFK cards that need updated. I'd gladly pay a few bucks for them too. Minis games have so much to fart with already to play - having to try to reference FAQS/errata for everything on top of that is too much.

PVC most likely, as that's the type of plastic they normally use.
