And we're back with more Reaper, more Bones and more METAL

As always - http://www.reapermini.com/

We start off with some new Savage Worlds cowpersons.

I like this witch hunter a lot and can see it joining my other =I= Witch Hunters. Or, more properly, the other unpainted Reaper Witch Hunters sitting in a box somewhere. Let's be realistic here.

This witch hunter however, I mean, what is she supposed to be doing? To me her body language says "Hey Steve I think I found a witch here! No! Wait! What are you doing with that wand! No! No! I don't want to be a frog! I hate warts!" My point being, she's not really selling the whole 'call on me to hunt witches thing' as well as she could.

While these two Masked Crusaders do pull it off. Hard to pull off a face mask and a bun but she does it. The gattling revolver helps.

Cowgirl. If for some reason you need a cowgirl.

Why is he holding one of those question mark swords from Game of Thrones? Are those like a thing now? There's one in the Frostgrave Cultist set too.

Then we have a mini line of off-beat spell casters, mesmerist, spiritualist, medium (not so good, not so bad, just medium) and so on. I imagine the names mean something to a Pathfinder player but nothing to me. Neat figures though, I really like the guy with cards and the old dude with the headache.

We also get a new spirit. It was originally going to be a knight, but after finishing the top half the sculptor went out for a few beers and one thing led to another and there was a deadline and bang, now he's a spirit.

Half-Ogre Fighter, though why he only fights half ogres I don't know. I mean come on, would it kill you fight some full ogres?

Answer, yes. It probably would kill him.

Goblins. Nice designs, reminds me of the original Hobbit cartoon. But I'd probably wait for bones, goblins aren't really a monster you use 2 or 3 of. More like 20-30.

Elf wizard. I was wondering about its gender then I remembered it was an elf and probably doesn't matter.

I actually ordered this one to join my mountain of shame. It's a nice mini.

Some new bones. We've seen these in metal before, the mom might be a good one if you want to do a civilian hoard otherwise these are character models and I'd want to get them in metal. In fact I think I have the wizard chick in metal. Somewhere. Unpainted and unloved.

OK, this is just weird, a Steampunk Witch. I guess it's a natural release with the witch hunting cowboys.

So there we are.

The CAV bones also came out, but I think there's a thread somewhere. But if you need your Giant Stompy Robot itch scratched at attractive prices this is worth checking out.

Not really my thing, just not a fan of the designs, but I do like the A-10 plane.

Those spellcasters take the prize, for me. I really like their sculpts. Very characterful.

But that's not the different part, it's a bas relief rather than a model. I wonder if Reaper/Hobby Q is trying out a new market? Odd subject to go with though. A unicorn or dragon would have more mainstream appeal. Maybe it's just an artist's whim and a one-off.

Is it two sided? That actually used to be a thing back in early days of collectable tin soldiers. They were referred to as "flats" by military miniatures collectors. I think there are still one or two companies in Europe that still make them.

 Kid_Kyoto wrote:
Next up they have an Anti-Paladin.

Not a fan of ginormous GW-style weapons like that.

That's it. I want a whole army of Tengu now!

 Kid_Kyoto wrote:

Pass. After working with a few Bones miniatures, I've decided to stick with metal on human size 28mm figures. Bones it nice for big monsters, giants, and dragons where the cost and weight savings is significant. I just don't like it for normal sized figures, though.

Have to say, the pistols are awful in that last batch. Absurdly oversized. The khopesh is also a flagrant offender in looking more like a bludgeoning instrument for a 54mm figure than a cutting weapon. Actual khopesh is a blade less than 2 feet long. Maybe the sculptor confused it with shotels, which can be up to about 40 inches long? Still doesn't explain why it looks like a bent 2x4.

I really like the metals. The Bones I already own, and they are ok. Most were a little lean in the nose department, but I am told that is something that got fixed lately.

Card guy looks pretty cool.

Might have to hunt down that half ogre just because. I love me my army of big clumsy ogre oafs. He'd fit in perfectly.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

How big are those planes? GW sized planes? Dropzone commander sized planes?

Thanks.

There are some scale threads on the reaper site. The game is 10mm, so the planes are too small for a 40k plane, maybe twice the size of a marine mini.

Dropzone commander sized. The Kraken looks really good, but the A-10's tail is always warped in the blister. I suppose you could cut off the tail and call it a VTOL gunship. Reaper also sells a variety of Bones tanks and recon vehicles with 6 wheels that would fit in nicely in all of the human armies.

A khopesh is a type of spicy salad and meat sandwich, usually made with a pastrami style beef in modern times as most Egyptians follow the Islamic faith.

A shotel is like a hotel for ships, just like a motel is a hotel for motor vehicles. In contemporary Bedouin parlance it's specifically a hotel that has camel stabling facilities, due to the term "ship of the desert".

A bent 2x4 is code for infinity, as 2x4 = 8 and if you bend the 8 over it looks like an infinity sign.

So basically if you buy a Reaper Cowboy and show your proof of purchase at any desert hotel, you can get infinite refills on your kebab sandwich.

I think?

Pretty much from 3.0 onwards D&D has allowed any race to be any class. Some combos are just bad ideas from a mechanics standpoint, though, or might have issues with the lore of a given campaign setting. But yeah, "can a half-orc be a paladin?" is now a question for players and DMs to answer, not a rules restriction.

Paladins were Human only in 2e core... But some books broke that rule. One major example I can think of is that Dragonlance allowed Dwarf Paladins, but this was covered in the Monstrous Manual appendix for Dragonlance, which curiously had character race info stuffed in it. There were a few other exceptions, too, but it was 3e that broke down race/class restrictions for base classes (Prestige classes might be pickier).

5 dumped alignment restrictions in core as well, something that I think 3e left to expansion books. Current 5e paladins on't even really need a patron deity, although they may pick one. The big new thing is picking a Vow from a list, which could mean several things.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

Complete Book of Humanoids also introduced the Saurials who could be paladins, following the Azure Bonds novel.

Preview pic of the upcoming Reaper Base Boss KS:

I don't need more bases, so someone else should maintain the Reaper Base Boss KS thread on Dakka.

Starts on the 26th.

As I understand it, the background is that Reaper bought a plastic injection machine with the first Bones KS profits, and some backers then assumed *all* the Bones would be made domestically. Reaper then said they were only able to make bases with the machine. I assume now that they're really really able to make bases, they need funding to pay for the various molds they're using.

These are really puzzling designs. Your average 30mm wide lip has almost a 25mm center, so any 30mm base insert wont really fit in their 21mm spots. It looks like there's a lot of top surface area to bevel, so given the wide legged stance of most minis (including their own brocoli based figs), your average man sized figure wont fit on a 25mm base without issue (as if they werent already overhanging). What uses 130mm round bases instead of 120mm? You can already get plain black bases dirt cheap, and I doubt they can compete price wise with China in that regards.

If they are going to tool something, why not make a 30mm base with a deep 25mm recess, where you could use a 25mm base as a topper?

Litko already has those pretty cheap. A pack of 100 clear acrylic 25mm round bases is $15 or $30 depending on thickness.

I am liking the availability of 20mm rounds. Although I am best buds with a guy with a laser cutter, if he ever stops being so lazy (lasy?) about it.

I might order these too, and then tease him relentlessly if I get mine from Reaper first
