Y'know what, I think I'll just go for it. Would a Deffkopta be an acceptable entry for the technology theme?

Revel in the glory of the site's greatest thread or be edetid and baned!

I've got an ork mek strapping on some extra arms and gunz- turns out he didn't have enough dakka. Who'd have thought?

Not sure whether he'll be a Big Mek or maybe a Badrukk counts-as (I feel the normal model is too pirate, not enough ork), but he's got a sweet freeboota hook, two "peg" legs, and an entire looted arm from a dreadnaught, so there's no questioning that he has technology.

A couple of quick WIP photos of where I am with Jesse James so far.

As you can see, my set-up is ridiculously ad hoc, ghetto, and disorganised. Coke bottle tops as stands for minis, Coke bottle bottoms as well palettes, jam and salsa jars as water pots, paints everywhere, a horde of unpainted minis vying for attention. To offset this, I have a little hat on the end of a wire.

The leather on the coat is done, I think. It came out really well! I've no idea how it happened, and I'm not sure I could do it again, but there's this bizarrely realistic weathered leather texture to it. I've been trying to paint realistic leather for months, and I've somehow done it by accident here. I'll take it!

edit - The leather wasn't done, it turned out. There were a couple of weird areas where one of the various washes I used had created these horrible greyish-brown patches. You can see one just under the strip of leather going down the middle of the back. I've been working on fixing them this morning. I think they're okay now, I'll have to check when they're completely dry. :(

Looking good Verviedi! Really like the electric flash in the gun. Big fan of the gold/silver on the back/helmet too. Really nicely done!

Thanks! I still have some work to do, mostly involving the backpack (hooray for surprise mold line) and the base. Also, I have some freehand to do on the cloak.

I like those Kasrkin, Bandwagon, you have done the highlights on the packs and weapons well

Welcome to the challange Warpig1815, good luck with your entry

Feltmonkey - nice to see I'm not the only one that has pots and random bits of projects croaching on my green mat and workspace.

Verviedi - the lighting on the gun does look very good and a nice little detail to the model, good job

A small update from me, I've been away for a few days with work so got a bit of painting done in the hotel, managed to get the snotlings holding the PC and 1 firing it but its a little higher than I'd hoped. (sry terrible pics, the light was very bad in hotel so had to use flash).

Lots of cool stuff here!

Just throwing this out there, would anyone be willing to take on hosting duties for March's round? Next month is going to be really busy for me with a ton of deadlines and such, especially the first and last weeks which are the busiest times for the challenge, so if someone else could step in I'd be hugely grateful. I won't lie, it's a lot of work to manage one of these things, but if you're willing then please let me know.

I probably spend too much time loitering around here anyway, and March's theme is already locked in as "Space Marines", right?...so it'd just be a matter of making and maintaining the OP? - I think I could handle that just fine, and would be happy to help out ...so yeah, if nobody "better qualified" puts their hand up, I'll do it

Yeah, it'd be just doing the admin for the challenge itself, and maybe the next month's subject poll depending on how swamped I end up getting. I'll be free in time to organise the final vote, so it's just the day-to-day running that I can't manage.

In any case, it'd boil down to adding and updating entries, everything else can just be copy-and-pasted from one of my old OPs.

wow Guildenstern that is going to be epic, you have put some much detail into it, even on the underneath. looking forward to that one.

it does look like there are loads of little bits in that model Aldo, well done for attempting it

Zobo, TY for volunteering (and TY as always to para for all the had work you put into running these challenges every month) I can't even offer to help since my job is moving 120 miles at the end of March so will be a very busy time for me.

Thanks so much, I really appreciate the offer and it takes a huge weight off my shoulders. Consider yourself guest host for next month! If you've got any questions about how exactly to organise it, let me know, but basically, just do what I do each month!

Well, I'm done. To be honest, I haven't got a chance against some of the awesomeness you guys regularly put out - but I've been lurking for years and meant to enter, so I thought I'd just go for it. Hopefully, I've got some new lighting coming at the start of next week - so my final pics will follow soon. Until then, here's a little update to show I'm still in this. I'm kind of kicking myself that I've only painted one now - the two Mk III dudes in the background were painted only the week before I entered (Within Feb), but I forgot to get proof pics - by which point it was too late :( Anyhow, here's a teaser until I get some better pics:

N.B: Just in case I was explicit enough, this is NOT my final entry pic - just an update.

no problem mate, it'll be an honour to "take the wheel" for a month, it's the least I could do! ...since I found out about it last May, this monthly painting challenge series has come to mean quite a lot to me, and has easily become my favourite part of dakka...it's been a huge help for my painting motivation and skill development so far...thank you for all your efforts keeping it running all this time

(man I hope I don't mess it up! )

Same here. I think the thing I like the best about it is that there's various levels of skill on display, and a whole range of attention to detail from all the participants. Even for outsiders like me, it's great just seeing what people come up with even if you're not participating.

@Zobo & Jadenim - Thanks! I'll try and get some better pics soon. It's just a pity the bolter covers up half the GS work I've done. :(

oh wow...I just went and checked out the unpainted pic, because I honestly couldn't tell there was any GS work on that dude...he's just a cool looking marine - the leg, arm, and face modifications just look like they're a normal part of the model...really great work!

Thanks! - I was aiming for the same look as the FW Destroyers upgraded armour - which easily rivals Mk III for the best looking armour IMHO. Standard Mk IV is kinda ugly, but the assault variant is brutal looking. Perfect for Salamanders then

I can't wait to see how your's turn out - the blue and orange is really striking.
