Next month's round is 'Space Marines' as is traditional for the first month of a new annual rotation. You can interpret that however you like though, it's not necessarily limited to actual SM or even 40k. In the past, we've had SM victims on Tyranid bases, Orks in looted Power Armour, even some space-age US Marines entered. So hopefully you can find something that fits!

Sadly, I must leave this challenge. I'm leaving for holidays until end of the month and I also ran out of Nuln Oil, so there is no chance of finishing it in time.
This challenge theme have been good motination for me to actually build something unique and as i'm huge fan of C&C Red Alert 2 game, I chose the allmighty Tesla Tank.

Here is the current status. Turret is 99% complete, hull needs to complete the camouflage, add hull heavy bolter and engine cover with a power generator. Then decals and final weathering.
Later i'll add sponsons in form of separate tesla coils, or maybe just some capacitors and in game just pretend it's an actual weapon.

Hopefully next time...

Well my new lighting arrived, so I'm FINISHED! Here's my Salamander in MkIV VHA, alongside his two Battle-Brothers, whom Paradigm kindly allowed me to enter as well (Since I forgot to get proof pics of those two at the start of the month ). Anyway - Unto the Anvil of War!

@Hawky - That's a real shame - you'll have to show it to us all when you get it completed.

Sadly, I'm afraid I'm going to bow out for this month. Real life hasn't been kind to me, with exhaustion from work as well as Nurgle's blessings keeping me from getting much painting done. I should be back for the Space Marine challenge though, with my 30th anniversary Imperial Space Marine!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

That tank looks really cool Hawky shame you won't get a change to finish it in time, I'm glad the challenge has pushed you on to create something very cool.

Those photos look very good Warpig, You can see the difference having decent lights and photos make to your entry. Great work, the extra 2 guys look really good as well, your flames are very well done.

@mrhappyface - There's a closer view of the helmet in my gallery - I didn't post it as the contest only allows 5 images.

@Midget Gems - Thanks! Yeah, the lighting makes a huge difference in quality - now I've just got to figure out how best to use my camera to get a good image - these have a bit too much contrast/glare.

@STG - Thanks mate, much appreciated! I'm looking forward to seeing your completed Rapier (For some reason, Rapiers always appeal to me).

Finally painting!!!

Also, had a small issue >< I got spray primer on the back (toy) wheels and they're kinda... err squishy now. Sigh. I tried to put some gloss varnish on to help, but doesn't seem to have done much. Sooo, I may end up replacing those :( Gonna try brush on primer and see if it helps solve it.

Hey guys!
4 days left and i have finished my rapier, now i just need to get the two crew members finished in time. Might be a bit of a squeeze :/

I would have liked to have done some weathering on it, and make it much more grimy but i dont have any pigment etc.
I will also go back and redo the targeting screen thingy bc I'm not 100percent happy with it.
Cheers

You have a photographer?! o.O

Also omg forgot it was short month arrrrrrrrgh >< ok back to work but first:

Also: HELP! the back wheels are still sticky from the primer... anyone have any idea how I can fix this? I'm not sure they'll even take paint now, I've tried gloss varnish to give them a 'hard' coat but it's done nothing on the wheels rubbery plasticy-ness. I are the sad.

first off, that's looking great! ...as for the wheel problem...well, this is a bit of a stab in the dark...and a pretty long shot at that...but, maybe try coating them in superglue? - this will probably go one of two ways...either it will make the problem even worse (hopefully not! )...or, (hopefully) when the superglue dries, it might leave a smooth, hard crust all over the wheels, which you should be able to prime and paint just fine (I reallllly hope this is what happens!!)

...it's good to be green!

Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

UK

I also forgot that February is a silly month with a rubbish number of days to get stuff done, so I had to do a bit of a panicked bits box raid earlier. Came up with this, which I think fits the bill nicely enough. First time in about a year that I've done any Horus Heresy stuff.

And done, though I'm liable to make a few tweaks over the weekend and redo the pics.

Fun fact, I had to strip the right leg as it was cannibalised from an old Marine, but I didn't realise just how old. Took off a layer of Raven Guard paint from a couple of years back, only to find some very poorly applied Imperial Fists yellow. Which means that part must have been from one of my very first marines, way back in about 2009! Not a patch on the hobby pedigree of a lot of the gaming veterans around here, but it was still nice to find and think about how far I've come.

Huh, nice. I'm actually building a marine army right now, so that's an easy fit.

Now I just need to figure out what I'll enter.....

The wheels are a gummy plastic type under the primer? The primer might have melted (or chemically changed) the wheels? I think the latter might be the case. Not sure how to fix though.

I'm lacking WIP images, but I think I'll be finished in time with my Kopta because the base coating is basically done. I'm sure that was the longest step because I used a lot of yellow. On a black primed model. I usually end up learning things the hard way instead of just taking people's word for it.

Oh well, I think the highlighting and weathering should be much simpler, so I should have plenty of time given I stay motivated.

@Guildenstern Good luck! I really hope your wheels cooperate soon, as your entry looks very promising! Trying to get a solid shell or layer over them probably will be your best bet, but I wouldn't be able to recommend materials.

@Paradigm I hope you aren't holding out on us. If you secretly were a beast man, then I'd have to say you'd be the beast, man!

lol @Paradigm

Thanks for the well wishes all... yes I do think the primer melted the rubber of the wheels a bit. Stupid me >< I know better I just didn't think about it sigh. Anyway, so far ZoBo is brilliant! It seems to be working. I'm about to try to prime but the wheels do have a hard coat on them now after the superglue. Keep your fingers crossed!!!

Done! Here's my grot bodyguard w/ rebuilt left arm and 2 Sicarian flechette blasters. In case you're not familiar with the technology, "A Flechette Blaster is a lightweight but lethal weapon; a favoured tool of Sicarian Infiltrators, perhaps one of the most sinister of the Adeptus Mechanicus's Skitarii warrior clades. This lethal short range weapon fires hundreds of tiny darts, each of which bears a dormant cerebral cell awakened in the gun's chamber. When one dart hits home, it emits a bioelectric pulse that attracts others, resulting in a series of impacts that burrow through flesh and bone. "
