Subject: October release: "Dread Fleet" - Fantasy naval game (pics and content list page 15 and 16)
htj wrote:'Allo lads. I've been away, so forgive me if this has been asked before but my trawl of this thread has yeilded no answer. So: Does anyone know how the scale of these models compares to Spartan Games' ships?
After my own exhuastive searching, the Spartan Battleship class ships are slightly longer. GW is saying the big Empire ship is 100mm long and the Spartan Battleships range from 110mm to 140mm long.
I'm guessing/thinking they are right around 1/600th, possibly 1/700th scale. There are other companies that make 1/600th Age of Sail ships out there as well.
All that said, GW is probably measuring the base and SG is measuring the actual ship.
I would imagine they should look ok together and the smaller SG ships would probably look great as escorts.
If I can't have an all GW fleet, I plan to make and expand my own via other manufacturers.

Ah, Warseer. Blocked by the work filter. A major facilitator in dumping me here, something which turned out to be an excellent turn of events. I'll check this again when I get home, thanks.
@TalonZahn
Thank you for your research. Sounds like the sizes should match up pretty well. Good to know.

I've seen a lot of "I'll just use these miniatures in Uncharted Seas." Has anyone considered perhaps the other way around? Consider that what we know so far of the Dreadfleet rules, and each ships is, effectively, a unique character. Why not adapt some of the Uncharted Seas ships to the Warhammer Universe and create your own stat cards?
Use an Uncharted Seas Orc battleship? Sounds good to me!

Not a bad idea, cincydooley, but in my case it's motivated by an unwillingness to learn a new ruleset when I already know how Spartan's exploding D6 system works. The laziness is strong in this one.

I must have missed all the posts saying "I'll just use these minatures in Uncharted Seas."
I've actually said exactly what you are claiming is a new idea, lol.
You know, the part where I said "the smaller SG ships would probably look great as escorts." and "If I can't have an all GW fleet, I plan to make and expand my own via other manufacturers."
I plan to use even other/more Age of Sail ships for even bigger battles.

Would anyone be kind enough to post up, or send me, the Dreadfleet product brochure please? The link to Scribd has been taken down by GW. Why, I have no idea.

Indeed! It seems to use the "integrated turn" approach that Spartan uses, as opposed to UGOIGO. I must say, all of the components that come with the game look top-notch.

A small town at the foothills of the beautiful Cascade Mountains
Two questions:
1) Where is the best (in terms of least amount of money) to buy Dreadfleet from? I'm looking for discounting of about 20%, free shipping, and no sales tax. I tried calling the Warstore, but haven't received a reply yet. Are other online stores selling?
2) Do you think Battlefoam will create a custom foam to store the models in, like they did for Space Hulk?
Thanks - Mez

I posted on battlefoams facebook asking them about foam for Dreadfleet and they replied stay tuned for details. I'm sure they want to see what's possible and what kind of demand there will be.

I imagine that we'll see something along those lines from BF eventually; even if it isn't widely marketed, you could probably have them whip something custom upmfor you!

To me Warhammer is all about background and story - and each and every game is a part of that, expanding it further. However, playing Dreadfleet would be like recreating the same naval battle time after time...
Had GW instead given us a chance to collect race specific fleets. I would probably have bought a massive Dark Elf fleet - especially if one of my HE opponents would have been willing to build a fleet of their own.
Then we could have lots of epic sea battles themed around invasion attempts on Ulthuan - with linked subsequent Fantasy battles...
The sea cloth is nice and the mechanics of the game seems interesting, especially the "handling ruler".
Might try to apply some of the Dreadfleet rules to my 28-mm naval battles...

Is it known which game designer(s) wrote the rules? I assume Phil Kelly had a part in it (which is a big plus for me) but knowing that along with the 'a turn of dreadfleet' will probably solidify my desire to get this. Sorry if this has already been mentioned it's just hard sometimes to skim through 30+ pages.
