I was going to make a joke about how your picture reminds me of PLayskool Go-bots Aero-bot until I realized that Aero-bot actually has a more flight capable plane mode:

Nope, still looks idiotic. I mean, the hull has at least four different angles in one line. The canopy, the horror.

It's terrible as a SM vehicle and barley acceptable as a model in general.

Looking at those pictures, it almost looks like the Stormguppy wings will be tiltable. That would be cool.

They don't make everything they use in a cave with scraps (past a certain point). Aircraft are one of those things that would be mass produced for waaghs (unlike trukks which are usually customized and owned or gargants which are wholly unique creations). Ork aircraft has always been less rickety than their land vehicles.

That's fine to a certain extent... but how long would they stay looking pristine and factory-new?

Battle damage would be repaired with whatever is to hand, and no self-respecting Big Mek is going to be able to resist adding his own 'improvements' to his Waaagh!'s air support.

Who is to say that the model GW provides doesn't already have such improvements? Being built upon doesn't really require a wholly ramshackle appearance and the aircraft does have a lot of asymmetry and little gubbinz.

If you don't like the shortened look of the ST, you could easily replace the "wings" on the turbines with bigger ones and remove the HB/LCs that are mounted on the front of the ST. That'd thin the profile and increase the wingspan.

I notice the Stormtalon has an ejection cutout on the canopy similar to the Harrirer (and other modern jets), only it's situated to the front of the pilot rather than above. When they are about to crash does the plane shoot the space marine at the enemy like some sort of brightly coloured testosterone filled missile?

Imagine a bullet.

Now imagine that bullet 7 feet tall and weighing as much as a Buick.

That's the ejector system on Space Marine aircraft.

If... If I were a marine player... And I wanted one of those... I'd paint the canopy as if it were closed armor. I'd also use large wings on it, tilted to line up with the profile of the plane, regardless of the angle of the engines.

You know... if you removed the silly assault cannon, close the gaps and shape the body work on the space where it would be, then push the side guns closer towards it's body instead of them being on pods, it would look tons better.

(also it would look like it could actually fly)

Storm talon doesn't look too terrible. I think GW made an attempt to skimp out on using more plastic. A lot could have been done to make it look better (i.e. having a gunner up above like the valk and just elongating the model in general). Other than that, I would buy/play it. The rules don't look too shabby either. I'm assuming this can also be attached to deep striking drop pods too?

Scythe and Ork fliers look spot on awesome.

The fact that they're not shown on the promotional pictures is a clue.

If you want it to look Orky, it kind of does.

Looking at the dimensions, he's not going to fit through there anyway... Shoulders are too wide.

Clearly he's meant to punch out the panel and start firing his bolt pistol once his other thirty or so guns run out of ammo.

Kroothawk's close-ups just reinforce how wrong the Stormtalon is. Those weapons are ridiculously oversized, while its wings are comically shrunken looking. I don't normally get to bothered about the technical issues like aerodynamics (who cares whether these things could actually fly), but I seem to remember that the power source for a few lascannon takes up a lot of space in a Land Raider, so how can this little thing mount 2 of them? But more importantly - while giving them a troop-carrying flyer like the Stormraven was (I think) a good idea, this is a vehicle that the Marines don't need. While I lost sympathy for nid players complaining every time another army got a new model, in this case I think the effort really should have gone into filling real gaps in the line (Voidraven?), or giving the nids a flyer instead of giving the Marines yet another shiny toy.

The photo of the Dakkajet, on the other hand, just makes me want a couple of them even more. Although whoever is writing the rules for Ork units really needs to come up with some new Orky terms, as 'dakka' and 'boom' ('boom bomb' - come on!) are simply embarrassing.

Think of the oversized weapons as compensation-cannons

Big gun, small/nonexistent other things...

This is why SM love big guns

Doesn't help that the thing looks like a robot scrotum with a cockpit, from certain angles..
