Hey Dave .. great tip with the netting mate .. i have always wondered how you did that.. any chance you can tell me where you tutorial on making pipes with joining connector things with rivets on .. is ;-) i remember seeing it a while back but the thought of going through 300 pages is a little daunting .. i no doubt would enjoy the banter though.. ;-)

Thanks Neil! Hell I dunno where it was either, but it really wasnt much of a tut, just me experimenting with making flanged pipes and such. I kind of got stuck on the tube bending part, couldn't figure out how to make it work right, and sort of sidelined it into one of my growing number of "I'll finish it later" piles

Hell I just looked and it was 58 pages ago in my Photobucket album!!, but here is basically all that I produced out of that endeavor.

Oh MAN I had totally forgotten about those!!!

A while ago I posted a haul I picked up to make an above-ground pipeline system. I have the PVC pipe now but was trying to figure out how to make the pieces modular and still connect w/ each other via magnetization w/o looking cheesy. Flanges to the rescue!

Just emailed myself that pic to keep in my 'stolen terrain ideas' folder. Yes. this will work out nicely.

AhA! - See, this is why I've taken WIP pics long before I ever started posting them on Dakka, so I would remember how I did something!
These were made possible by the purchase of el-cheapo, but fabulously-useful set of punches from Harbor Freight Tools

.>And the Chop-It too for rivets and nuts and boltheads and such...

what i just realized dave is: tried the punch work recently too... got three different sizes of those tools... but mine came out all ruining the PC instead of giving my nice punched out circles... should i sharpen them?

and... well seriously...? i think they match the redneck stereotype... catachans i mean...

Made in us
Decrepit Dakkanaut

Yeah..but if they are new, they shouldn't need sharpening...

Perhaps hit it HARDER with the hammer? Mine work with two taps and a twist to cleanly make a circle...My circles only get damaged when I need to use something sharp to poke the disks out of the tool.

Vik, have you ever seen a Vietnam War Movie not dubbed in German? If so, you'll always notice the different American Accents, A Stereotypical Texan/Nebraskan nicknamed "Cowboy", Always a guy from Brooklyn, etc. etc. I see the Catachan Stereotype as <insert Vietnam War Movie here> , a mix of guys from War Movies

well i saw apocalypse now back in school in english... didn´t get much tho

but you are basically right... many accents...maaaaany stereotypes...and that doesn´t even included afro american stereotype accents...

as for the hammer hitting... well i think it was the not really that hard hitting issue... i will investigate further on that^^

I used to use a small scrap hunk of 3/4 inch plywood for my leather tools. I imagine the same coud be used here. When i was punching particularly thick leather with a smaller diameter punch I'd put the board on the floor and drop a 3 lb hammer on the punch. Worked every time, but did wind up ruining a couple punch bits due to going too deep into the plywood. Beats having a hole in the kitchen floor though.

oh my... all your pent up hormones...

the opnly thing that really keeps me from hard hitting the punch tools is the noise... i am a bit girlish when it comes to hitting noises... when i was a mere kid i ruined a thumb in a door... i think that caused a certain trauma with bigger noises in me... so i am a hesitant worksman
