Based on that newest pic, we're a little less than halfway through the image. That would put as a probably November or December for the complete picture. Man that picture has built up slower than I expected. So at this stage, it's safe enough to assume that it was merely an image for the 25th anniversary. However, in the unlikely event that it is a teaser at all, it could be for a release to come in January (as the picture would be fully realized in December).

Why would the put a DA on the side of WD for the 25th anniversary though? Personaly I think it is because DA are going to be the focus of 6th ed. I would guess it will be the image that is used on the front of 6th ed. We will also get a codex at some point soon.

I don't think they'll put a fairly static looking Space Marine on the cover of 6th ed. It'll probably be the typical hammer, skull, and futurey bits they've put on the front since 4th.

If rumors that dark angels are the first codex in the new year then having the picture complete in December would be the same as the December issue advertising the release of dark angels in January

True.

GW don't do subtle advertising. Rather they get White Dwarf and go "OMFG! NEW CODEX!!!" whilst they tell the store managers to tell the customers that "This army is super powerful" and plaster it all over the website and such.

GW releasing a product with subtle advertising is like hoping that a brick will float in the pacific ocean. It'll end in disappointment and failure.

At this stage of the WD pics, it is a Dark Angel without doubt, and I may throw in a name :

Azrael

Unless they're going to redo Azrael's model, I doubt it.

In GW's mind isn't the first month after the Christmas holiday a prized release month as kids spend money they received as gifts? That to me seems like exactly when they'd want a marine release, especially if in the months preceding the holiday are releases supporting the Hobbit.

- non-standard backpack, design closer to the pic than anyone elses I remember. Both seem to have skulls as vents..
- Special weapon, maybe not exactly like the pic yet, but close enough.
- robes, has his helmet carried for him. So a robed marine without a helmet could be the one I am guessing he is.
- Shoulderpad sporting something I think is an Angel ( ? above a heap of skulls ? ), a typical DA image and one model which already has this, is the Grandmaster of the DA. Whats wrong in the assumtion an Angel is most likely a hint on a rank that is above squad leader?

Sure it isn't a perfect copy of the actual model and it may turn out as a different Character or generic Dark Angel marine.
For now I am going to stick with it, guessed identity of the marine = Azrael.

Hey now. Who do you think argued that it's clearly a DA when we had that first spoiler image of the WD spines, and used Azrael to showcase that?

Sure it isn't a perfect copy of the actual model and it may turn out as a different Character or generic Dark Angel marine.

I would say a different character is going to be the best option. Not because it's a case of "YOU'RE WRONG!" or anything, but Azrael is a character who has traditionally had that combi-plasma, and based upon the trends lately we haven't seen characters being redone in Finecast.

I would, for the record, absolutely love a new Azrael model.

Aren't the Dark Angel models up for a change, as back banners were dropped on squad leaders and the few characters who still got them are an exception? So yes, a few models may have them, but generally its not unthinkable to consider the banners available for GK per squad a possible trend that should suit the DA well. The first Legion, the ones who got some special banners to field.....

I am all for the back banner as a possible add-on for walkers. They are already a big target.
But infantry sized models should either have a real banner or none. Plus those back banners tend to fall off, snap etc.

Back banners are still in every PA kit for Marines. They're not as prevalent in the art as they used to be, but they're still in every plastic kit and on most special characters.

......every?

- assault squad?
- devastators?
- bikes ?
- command squad?
- BT upgrade ?
- IH upgrade / squad ?
- WS upgrade?
- death company ?
- Sanguary guard?
- space wolf / PA ?
- GK / PA ?

These plastic kits either miss the back banners you seem to get and I and others don't, or they didn't have them from start.

- sternguard?
- vanguard?
- robed DA ?
- deathwatch hybrid kit?
- LotD except the SGT models?
- Masters of the chapter ?
- classic SM except SGT ?
- SM veterans?

These metal/ finecast or hybrid kits have no backbanner too.

- chronus?
- telion?
- shrike?
- he'stan?
- cortez?
- cassius?
- kor sarro?
- EC?
- corbulo?
- dante?
- sanguinor?
- astorath?
- lemartes?
- xavier?
- tycho?
- lucas?
- ulrik?
- ragnar?
- canis?
- helbrecht?
- grimaldus?
- seth?
- mephiston?
- sammael?
- every specialist and "officer" that hasn't got the old backpack plus banner pole
- every apothecary and techpriest

Most characters? You sure? Again, GW Phasing out the old backpack may reduce the amount of back-banners....

I am aware there are still some kits whith the back-banner, but they are less common now. The list above is just from memory, so please consider these "?" as a " i think they don't have this backbanner IIRC " .

BTW, the point was to get rid of the backbanners and use more of the big standarts, especially with DA.

I like back banners, the only issue is how absolutely flimsy they are, but personally I think they look wicked.

I have actually magnetized the base of the banners with small 1/32 magnets and have a corresponding magnet in the top of the back pack. Makes for very hassle free storage and if I don't want them i just leave them off.

Could be just a mix of wishlisting and common rumours by an unknown person, but here it is:
MarikLaw over at Warseer wrote:I don't post rumours very often as I can't trust half the stuff I hear, but I believe this was worth noting after I saw some of the recent BoLS rumours.

Please take these rumours with a grain of salt, never met the guy who told me this stuff before in my life but he seemed to be pretty confident about what he saw (or heard). I work in a gaming store so I tend to hear rumours all over the place, bought a 50/50 chance that any of them are ever true.

- Dark Angels will NOT be released prior to 6th Edition. Expect them after Chaos Legions, sometime this Fall (apparently Chaos Legions is being released shortly after or in tandem with 6th Edition). I believe the credibility of this (at least as far as the Dark Angels go) is pretty good, especially if we speculate on when the White Dwarf spine image of the Dark Angel is going to finish.

- Company Masters in Terminator armour will apparently be able to take a single Deathwing Terminator squad as Troops and a Company Master riding a bike will be able to take a single Ravenwing Attack squadron as Troops. Belial will let you take any number of Deathwing Terminator squads as Troops and Sammael will allow you to take any number of Ravenwing Attack squadrons as Troops. I'd rather see both units as Troops choices right off the bat, but if the recent Chaos Legions rumours are true than this seems all too likely to happen as well.

- Dark Angels will have Mortis Dreadnoughts as Heavy Support choices. Sounds like wishlisting to me, but would be nice if it was true.

- Person seemed to confirm some of the other rumours that have been floating around about Chaplains, nothing new or interesting to report from that though.

- Cypher will NOT be in the Dark Angels book, but will instead appear in the Chaos Legions book.

- Some sort of new Predator that has a plasma weapon as its main armament. Sounds like wishlisting again, but could still be cool if true.

- He also seemed to confirm that the Dark Angels would have an affinity for plasma weapons and that they would be slightly better than in other Marine books, but wouldn't say how. Sounds like rumour rehashing, but if not it could confirm some of the other rumours that have been floating around.

Again, please take with a helping of salt.

Is Cypher a new SC?

With the galaxy as large as it is the odds of the average guardsmen seeing and fighting a marine or MEQ are relatively slim. Unfortunately the guardsmen in your (and anyone else who plays IG's) army are the REALLY, REALLY LUCKY ones that fight marines ALL the time...

If that plasma turreted Predator is true, it doesn't matter if FW's is the same vehicle, but people will sure be using the model.

If the whole rumor of how Company Master in terminator armor and Belial making Deathwing troops is true... this to me heavily implies that Belial isn't going to be able to choose his weapons anymore. I guess we'll see a proper miniature of him, with a fixed weapon combo.

Not like he has much of a choice right now. I would much rather see him with a relic blade and iron halo than his 2 generic options. Something impressive, worthy of the master of deathwing instead of just mastercrafted weapons for everyone. Perhaps an assault cannon, mc relic blade, terminator armor and iron halo?

Made in us
Fresh-Faced New User

My educated guess as to what will happen to Belial and Deathwing? Belial will get his iron halo finally along with a true heavenfall blade (relic blade) as well as gaining the typical space marine captain profile i.e. WS 6. He will likely also gain some new special rule(s) and will jump up a great deal in price as he's dirt cheap right now (easily the most cost efficient Terminator to troop swap in the game). Deathwing terminators will go to +5 points for a thunderhammer and storm shield and 30 points for a cyclone and we'll likely see the current pseudo-command squad replaced by a more traditional (read non-scoring) Deathwing command squad. All in all, I don't really see a new codex improving Deathwing terminator squads from where they stand right now as the most cost efficient troops terminators in the game

I have no doubt that GW will retain the generic weapon options for the Company Master in terminator armor just so players can continue using their creations... As far as what Belial has I think GW may go for something more dramatic than a relic blade. The rumor is Ravenwing are getting more... and the simple fact is there aren't as many way for Deathwing to keep up but obviously GW wants to sell to Deathwing players something... so I tend to believe GW will in usual fashion make Belial a "must have".

Hmmm... Dark Angels present the opportunity for GW to release plastic kits for generic Space Marine Terminator Commander as well as Chaplains... something thats been speculatively rumored.
