Just got back from the Dentist, so a wee bit on the sore side- Not much painting at the moment, but figured its high time that I got back here and got you an update!

Had to wait on a box of stuff to be shipped to me from Florida (I didnt have any checked luggage, so had to send it home with the OTL folks!), but that's arrived!

In this magic box of wonders were some sculpting tools, x-acto saw blades, a wet palette, more paint... All super useful, but makes for boring pictures...

Far more interesting are a few of the models I picked up!

At the top left, we have a small resin shed kit from Table Full of Awesome- I gave one of their guys a demo of EFT (he really enjoyed it ) and he gave most of us at the booth one of their kits. Initial impression is kinda neat. Good size for 40k and the like I think. Big farm building. Details look sharp and theres no major warpage. Seems to fit together easily, too. Roof might have some issues, though, as Im not seeing any register marks or pegs... Will have to play with it some more!

Moving counter-clockwise, some autumn terrain stuff I picked up for a future project. Some nice colors, and hopefully I can get the vision in my head to come out right. Well see...

And of course, the giant Maelee from Bombshell miniatures! Really excited to paint something of this scale. never painted anything like it before, so itll be an awesome learning experience!

Another future project is a freebie from the Reapercon swag bag. In their painting competition, theres a curious category called "Mouselings". Never heard of them before, but apperently it was big before chibis were all the rage. Think im gonna paint this guy up and see how he does in that category. Could be neat!

Lastly in the Reapercon update... A monster.

Long story cut short, Reapercon has this weird area where you can swap metal models, bits, etc all by weight. Alternatively, you pay a buck an ounce and see what you find. I was looking through it out of curiosity and found a neat dragon model, but just the body, feet, tail, and one wing. Of courst I bought it on impulse, and almost instantly regretted it. What was I gonna do with half a dragon!?
Em from OtL goes over to that table after I get back to the booth and Ill be damned if she didnt find the arms and other wing!! Now I just gotta get the head cast up special ordered...

COMMISSION PROGRESS!!

Space wolves are carrying on- Finally able to make progress on it now that things have quieted around here. The wet pallette is helping immensely

I also have another mini for On the Lamb- a Light Dragon!

And lastly... All is not quiet on the Warlord front!

Do you guys like plasma? Like a LOT of plasma? So much plasma even the Dark Angels are telling you to turn it down a notch?

How about a BIG DUMB PLASMA CANNON!?

Warlord-sized

This gun has some really beautiful design on it... Tiny details like cabling and the plasma canisters really make this shine. Fits together like a dream, and has some of the cleanest casting Ive ever seen.

whew... Big update, haha///
Thats all for now- Back later guys! Thanks for reading

I had to double take the plasma, the lack of cables threw me off. Big metal dragon looks cool, what color are you going to make it?

There are a bunch of fiddly bits I've not yet put on- This is all still dry fit to get everything ready for final assembly.

Big dragon will probably be a deep red. Got plans to build him into a diorama for a competition one of these days... Just need to figure out the other models!

Nice.. good projects in the work...

Plasma is just a bit small otherwise you could use it as a Plasma pistol.

Very much this! Im a wee bit oversized
There are also a few bits extra that arent shown in that picture that would make it look a fair bit chunkier-looking.

Anyways thats what... your 10th avatar this month, Tides?
Guess its better than some people who havent changed theirs since last year's holiday season....

*ahem*

But who would do that. I mean really, how tacky...

Wulfen continue, and I'm seriously loving this wet pallet. It really improves the working time of my paints, especially the mid-blend mixes I tend to make. Left it uncovered as I ate dinner and a few hours later once I came back, every single color I had put on it was still usable!

Definitely helping me keep up speed on these guys... next step is eyes and mouths, then hair and eyebrows... that should really start making these guys pop to life!

Seriously Steve. Don't make me have to read your name to recognize your posts.

I really like the look of that wulfen, and which is not something I have said regarding a space marine in a fair time. Well done so far.

Hey I'm usually on mobile, so I have to read everyone's name . It's only fair! That's also why I didn't notice your Christmas lights are still up, Ramos... good news is in just two weeks you'll be in season again

On that note, do you get any kind of break over Christmas and is it possible there will be a warlord building party? I feel like it's the kind of thing you could use many hands for . Will be really cool to see it all together!

@Tides: No break for me, save the odd National Holiday- As far as the warlord, some parts of him are so huge, I think I'd rather need a -crane- than a few sets of hands!!

He is making a little progress here and there when the mood strikes me. Have the plasma Gun drilled and sub-assembled... Still such a beautiful piece...

Today, though, I just have lots of fangs and fur to show:

Went with a couple different colors to add some individuality to the squad. Tried a new way of painting red and blonde hair, and I think I'm getting closer to something I like. Needs a bit of work in depth of color though.

Next stage should make a world of difference- Picking out the silver metals!

Love the cannon and the miniatures, nice haul.

But on to the important bit. SWM no longer makes Autumn Fall Leaves mix. So where did you get those leaves?

I have an entire army to base plus a display board. You gotta let us see the brand name!

Nice haul.

Intrigued to see what you make/get for the dragon head.

And finally, geez that plasma cannon for the warlord is huge!

@Stormwall: Sorry for the belated reply- The fall leaves/grass is from miniNatur. I picked it up from the Hangar 18 booth. Lots of neat fall options. I didnt even get to buy half of them.

=====================

So annoying news- Seems my camera isnt turning on, even when I put it on the charger... Nothing like a waste of a couple hundred bucks.... Well, looks like it's my phone camera for the time being. Might be for the best anyways... It does have a nice little camera on it (annoyingly so)

Anywhoooo...

Warlord Part 9: Stand Up Drama-dy

By now we've got the legs ready to go, and it's time for the build to go vertical!

When the hips cure, go ahead and put a large rod right in the center. This will slot into the hole we've already drilled into the carapace and will add a bit more structural support to the final model. In the interest of transport and storage, I've decided to refrain from gluing the whole thing together. Two giant chunks of resin are easier to transport than one MASSIVE one! We will be touching on this later, as I have a bit of a plan to make the fit a bit nicer.

Anyways, the legs! Unfortunately I'm missing a couple photos of this process due to my camera going down, so hopefully words will suffice.

The pins we added in the knees last time will ensure that we can pose the legs easier. It's of note that we DON'T GLUE YET! It's all dry-fit right now. Depending on how tightly your pins fit, they might even be able to stand on their own! For mine, I was able to hold the legs and hip assembly together in one hand while I posed it with the other. For those of you who might not have giant ham-hands like me, you might want to get a friend to help you with this and the next few stages.

For my pose, I wanted a little motion to it, as if bracing to fire, so I put the right leg out front a bit. The key is to ensure that you keep the hips centered and parallel to the ground- Otherwise the whole thing will be unbalanced once the large torso section goes on. This is easier than you'd think, though, as the dinner plate-sized feet really help spread out its weight.

Once I found something I was happy with, I set aside one leg and the hips, making sure thatI held the other leg in my desired leg position. Then I took a small drill bit (something like 1/16" or 2mm) and put a hole in the side of the knee, making sure I drilled into the middle of the assembly. I pressed a small length of rod into the holes, then repeated this process on the other side.

You can see the added leg supports in this photo- They're actually just plain old finishing nails! I just nipped these down after gluing so they'd sit flush with the rest of the legs.

By now, the legs are modestly solid, and are able to be manipulated without flopping around everywhere. This is useful for the next step, where we will insert pins through the legs and into the waist.

Similar to how we drilled the knee supports, we will be dry fitting the leg/hip assembly in order to determine where to drill our pins to the hip. One at a time, use the holes we drilled into the upper leg as guides for hip holes. You really only need to drill a little bit at first, just enough to mark the resin. Then you can set the leg aside and drill directly into the hip. It will inevitably be at an angle, so you may drill into the hip-pin if you aren't careful. Just keep a weather-eye out as you go.

Repeat for the other side, then add a suitably-sized pin to each side. Again, no glue, just dry fitting!

Ok, last set of drilling now... The feet!

Using the same setup, manhandling the parts or having your buddy help out, figure out where you need to drill into the "heel". I used the piece of rod I previously installed in the feet to make a mark on the ball joint. After that it was a simple case of drilling the heels.

At this point, it's time to do final checks before gluing. Check that everything lines up how you want it to line up, then glue. I did everything at once, letting the pins align where everything was supposed to go. For the waist, I wrapped a rubber band around it after gluing so that it would cure nice and tight. It shouldn't be necessary to clamp anything else, as the support pin will lock the knees and gravity will ensure a tight fit with the feet.

Oh, and I'd advise you to finalize the orientation of your feet! After the JBWeld cures, you aren't gonna get this thing apart without a chisel!!

Let this cure, then it'll be on to the detailing...

So no major work today- As WM alludes to, I spent most of my running errands so that I could get this!

Needed a car for work, and just so happened that a friend of my uncle was selling this one... Big changes, big changes xD
Tomorrow I have work and random gaming with the DnD group (looks like some Kingdom Death is coming ), so no Titan update, but I should be able to squeeze part 10 in Saturday Morning before work!

Till next time, guys. Thanks for reading!
