Maybe go back over them with some lighter blues and layer them some. Kinda like in this pic.

The weathering should fix the flames. Otherwise it looks great!

I'm going with both the above

Your usual weathering should bring it together, but I feel that a layer of lighter blue flames may break up the 'flatness' of the flames.......

schank23: I agree, it needs some more layers. Thanks for the pic!

Gitsplitta: I dunno, gonna try to add a darker shade methinks, I used too much mid-tone blue, which gives a weird affect - irl, at least.

monkeytroll: lol . I agree it feels too flat, going to experiment a bit...Not sure about a lighter blue though, i thinka dding a darker blue (while not very natural) may tie it closer to the blue panels.

I hope I'll have some decent pics to show tomorrow!

Not where I should be

Excellent work bud.

The blue looks OK to me, just weathering should pull it down enough. I might be tempted to run a few white checkers as a strip across it somewhere, that would break it up nicely. But I am sure you will nail it regardless bud.

I like the idea of adding some depth to the flames with layers, reckon it would look wicked. Good work.

Welcome back- was starting to worry you had been at Gindhoo Phlem at the wrong time

Flames, most definitely flames! Flame on!

Camkierhi: Thank you! I'm a bit bummed I read your suggestion on the checkers AFTER I tossed on some paint, but I'm going to incorporate that somewhere . Checkers or dags on the very edge of the wing maybe?

stonned_astartes: exactly what I did. Thanks for the support

Meer_Cat: Thanks! And: I was on the right side of that battle, thanks to the doomchickens More flames added

So, I was going to show you guys the finished dakkajet... And then I read Cam's excellent idea of adding checkers somewhere . I've done blue and orange checkers on a black field on some models, and I think that may look very striking, so I'm going to show you guys an almost finished dakkajet instead of a finished one

I added some depth to the flames by re-applying the darker tone and the mid-tone blue again, instead of having a large flat area of mid-tone blue. Adding more of the darker blue definitely helped out, but judge for yourself.

First a few without the canopy, 'cause I forgot to take pics of the pilot before I glued it in:

The inside of the intake will be requiring some additional weathering as well methinks.

And some with canopy:

So, time to figure out where to add checkers - or maybe dags. Stay tuned!

schank23: thank you!

stonned_astartes: not 100%, but getting there

Dr H: Thanks!

So, adding checks.. with bad brushes and hald-dried out paunts isn't all that easy, apparently . Got away from me a bit,k but I still like the visual effec tof the end result. I tried a gazillion colour combos before settling on these (which were my first chopcie, don't kn wo why I deviated anyway).

So, finished dakkajet at last!

Theophony: Thanks! My (old colours) recipe was macharius solar orange, vomit borwn, vomit brown + bleached bone drybrush for detailsh, brown wash. If you want to stick to new GW, jokaero orange with an orange wash, some light brown drubrush, and areikland flesh wash should do fine, with an optional ushabti bone drubrush mixed int here if you feel it's necessary. Weathering is done by sponge, with rhinox hide and boltgun metal.

Meer_Cat: I like to convince myself I actually have tilme to go out and play as well at times .Thanks!

Camkierhi:Thanks Cam! I'm not overly happy with the jet, but maybe I'm just being too harsh on myself.

For today, just a PIP of the 5th doomchicken, whuch will carry the leader into battle. Not quite there yet, but making good progress:

inmygravenimage: redneck shenanigans and greenskisn go hand in hand IMHO

Theophony: Lol . with the shieldface, I might even get away with it...

So for today, bit of an up-and-down feeling has styruck me. Ot he one hand Murphy, took a particular interest in me: my burnawagon which was tucked away safely managed to get dropped, resulting in quite signifcant damage to the frond end and the turret on the rear (it freakin' bounced),then my painting light died on me, and then it turned out I'm out of glue... So, with no detailing work or convertin' possible, I decided to get stuck in and experiment with my airbrush. Nothing fancy mind you, a cheap chinese nail-art thingy, purely intended for undercoating in smooth layers instead of me tossing paint at it like an excited chimp tossing his excrements at zoo visitors.

I'm using the instar 'not macharius solar orange', which is a great colour match, and after some experimenting, got the thinner-paint ratio more or less right. It works a treat through the airbrush, allowing for a nice solid, even coat. Now, it's onto highlighting and such, once I get a decent light again.

Piccie to prove I actually did some painting:

Still needs some improving, but for a first time playing around with an airbrush, it worked a treat. A whole new and exciting realm of possibilities opens up!

Airbrushes for base coating are basically the most wondrous thing ever. Interesting that your in sstar experience is do good. I've been trying to use one of their blues and I just can't get the mix right for a one coat cover.

Flinty

How much are you diluting it by?

Our paints only need the smallest amount of thinner/flow aid possible. A lot of it is down to experimentation and how you would like to see it coat, if it's coming out too thin, try using less thinner and up the pressure a bit and see if that makes any difference?

Flinty: When they say 'shake vigorously', they really mean that. Besides that, I barely thin it ( 1 part thinner for at least 10 parts of paint). That might make a difference. Getting it to cover well by hand is more difficult because it tends to 'pool' a tad. Of course, trying to paint orange over black takes a special kind of masochist

monkeytroll: yeah, Murphy at his best... Ah well, when life gives you lemons BFTBG! . I love airbrushing the orange. It's relatively slow going because I'm still inexperienced, but oh-so smooth.

Supershandy: Pressure all the way uip seems to help . The original macharius solar orange was a foundation paint, so I'm not expecting that kind of coverage. Colour match is spot on though.

For today, a very minor update since I tried painting by daylight. let's just say results are mixed . I got glue again at least, so I can model something.

Pants will be redone, and I need to get the glass on the bottle done, paint a bunch of details.... I'm also going to add some flames to the cloth, I feel it would add to the model.
