In addition to the aberrant WIPs on the previous page (for those who missed it, the post got appended), some WIPs on the bases for the next 5, purestrain through 4th gens... models up next!

Really enjoying the Secret Weapon paints, getting a nice smooth but dry looking rust transition out of them, and the rubbers are awesome, I know it is a small thing but the pipes on the one base, the range from the low/mid/highlight paints was pretty much perfect right out of the dropper, could see using these on a variety of blacks by playing with the ratios - as can be seen on the grey topped '03' base, exactly the same paints, just different amounts. Great tint, just enough blue to give character, not so much as to not be grey still. Love it!

Bases also SWM btw, from a few different sets that looks 'overkilly/spacehulky' to me -

Only thing I need to do that I forgot is use 'rust shadow' paint to line the inside of the large chip areas between the paint and the rust, to further the optical effect of relief -

Now this is what I like to see! #1 you're painting again (thank the lord) and #2 that is some beautiful use of washes and colour on the hybrids skin tone! really very nicely done and I honestly am looking forward to seeing more of them!

The weathering on the' Bay 41' base is astounding.

Bases are looking gorgeous Major. Really lovely effects. Perfect for the 'mining facilty' theme of the figs. Cracking work

Yeah it's nice that the mining world theme covers quite a few looks, from flight deck clean to deck grill to industrial to even rocky and dirty... Have a nice variety of bases to choose from, to be honest, just painting those is pretty enjoyable lol!

Thanks Bebop! That magus was a bit of a passion project, glad to see I didn't stray too far from what they actually ended up doing, gratifying my design mentality lined up with Master Goodwin's

Alright, actually almost managed to bang out a whole mini in an evening... almost. Still a little bit to do here and there, teeth, toungue, base contact rubble, fix up the mottling on the head, probably a few more point highlights etc, but, more or less, you get the idea.

Love that classic scheme, not as black as GW's current, and more pink in the purple than current, but an update of the original colors more than anything - I can definitely see a pretty big improvement, even as a quick tabletop type job, than the original SH stealers I did which I thought were pretty on point at the time.

Blemishes look ok in the photos but IRL they are a bit too harsh, I used a blemish pattern similar on my SH genestealers but my contrast range and blending were waaaaaaaaaaaaay darker and more rudimentary. I will probably end up significantly brightening or glazing over the spots to knock them back -

Everything looks amazing! The bases, the skin on those hybrids, the spotty heads on the genestealers. I like how there's a little bit of slime coming out of the drain on that base. Great details!

He he, thanks, that Spacehulk stealer is actually 6 years old, lot of things I still like about it, but overall compared to the newer one I've come a long way on the blending front. Thanks for your comments

Fair point, it was an overwhelming spread. Though, in defense of canadian fashion, montreal is pretty high end on that front! Lol. Had to have black printed t's or pink polo (popped collar of course), distressed bootcut jeans, white sneaks, black prada wrap around glasses. Hair like goku. Oh yeah. OH YEAH! #confessionsofaformermeterosexual

I know... hence the reminiscing side-track lol! In honor of it, I cut my hair drastically shorter and resumed a light messy do, 14 years, the spikey hair and white sneakers are due for a come-back now!

Honestly though, if you are where I was in 2002, then you could get pretty far pretty quick already if you made a bit of a mission to learn glazing and a few other tricks. Those DA were the last thing I painted for about 7 years, when I came back, it was straight to the Space Hulk box and Genestealer you see above.... That was all just purely reading more theory and watching more tutorials, no extra practice involved. It was literally paint the last DA thing, and the next time I picked up the brush was on a genestealer. All depends if you want to deal with the extra time that comes with upping your game but hey, if you want to, I am sure you can do it!

Thanks man, that was my weakest area and the part I worked hardest to get better at... a few lessons with Mat Fontaine and some advice from Ben Komets put me in a place where I could start getting a hold on it, so very glad that stands out to people, hard work pays off!

Happy with the luminance, tried Komets style point highlights, which actually work quite well IRL. Sometimes taking photos this zoomed in is unforgiving but what can you do... on to the other hybrid gens!
