Excellent advice and great vid.

Git! I'm loving all of this Bushido stuff you've got going on...this is another game I've had my eye on and am struggling to stay away from. Loads of great asian themed MDF kits are popping up everywhere that would be great for this game, Blacksite Studios in particular just dropped a big set.

For the time-being though, I will get my fix by watching your Plog. Keep up the great work!

I like it. I also like the fact that there's a lot of different games on dakka these days, not just GW and 'other GW' stuff. Nice change of pace

Thanks for the vid Gitsplitta, informative info that I may try to apply to other games. I never would have guessed that the board you made had no paint beyond the base coat.

LOL! Make sure you have someone else to play first... either that or buy two clans so you can give one to a potential adversary.

I watched the video, great thoughts in there. I haven’t gotten to game in years except with the kids. The local area has multiple FLGS, but working 2 jobs and the kids with activities and all around family stuff means painting is about all I can do. Of course I went to order the whole clan and all the things, but they are out of stock . I found some eBay sellers, but with eBay doing 15% off every few weeks I think I’ll at least wait till then. Maybe the bear will be available by then .

Yeah, the bear clan was a highly anticipated expansion so it doesn't surprise me that they're hard to get at the moment. I don't know that I've seen a release date on the actual bear, but I imagine it'll be out fairly soon.

Proof of life. Finally sat down to do a bit of painting (staining) of my temple buildings for Bushido in advance of our tournament on the 6th. These aren't very far along, though I did get as far as distressing the roof of the building on the right. With a bit of luck I hope to have these both done tomorrow.

Not where I should be

Buildings are looking wonderful, simple and effective. Really nice bud.

Love the batreps, all considered I think you did not bad, I think that it is good to play with different setups, not necessarily our first choice. It's more realistic, you don't always have your best on hand.

@Cam: I agree. I have a good number of Tengu figures left to paint. I've got my hands full getting everything ready for the tournament on Oct. 6th (terrain, objectives, prizes, etc.) but after that I need to buckle down and get the rest of my faction painted so I can field a variety of lists.

@Nev: Funny you should say that... Nerdfest mentioned that he'd like to see me do an entire 40k table with this stuff so my armies could fight on a feral world. I might get there eventually. There's certainly a lot of beautiful laser-cut wood buildings available representing this era and culture available.

Hey Gits. Been lurking while you've been posting bat-reps, but just wanted to say, really good job on the terrain. The end result on the temple bell is pretty darn authentic looking. How did you go about getting that distressed look on the roof tiles?

Thanks guys!

@Snrub: Sandpaper is your friend. I use 100 grit for general distressing of the entire area, then 60 grit when I what to "apply the pain" to specific areas.

Some better shots of the latest two buildings...

First, the bell tower. It's not obvious from this photo but the bell is actually metallic and the tips of the beams are gold. Everything looks some variation of brown in the photo unfortunately. I should have gone with a naturally aged looking bell which would have looked a very dark grey. At least it would have shown up better.

Next, the outside of the temizuya (for washing/purification before visiting a shrine). Very happy with how this came out. Everything worked from the distressing of the roof to the floor and water-stain details around the water basin in the middle.

In this photo the 'aard coat hadn't dried completely yet, thus was still milky. It's cleared up very nicely now.

Lastly, I worked over a previously painted rice barn with sandpaper as I always thought it was too pristine looking... like it much better now.

Those are looking really great bud, nice compliment to the minis. Can understand it is a fair amount of work for a lot of the buildings all together, but a bit at a time you seem to be whizzing through them.

Ah now that's an interesting method. I thought you'd just painting the weathering on. But actually using sandpaper to get realistic weathering is clever.

Finished my first new set of Area-of-Control objectives to match one of my boards. Pretty happy with how they came out. Even dressed up the old board a bit. Was going to do more but ran out of basing materials.

Thanks to today’s eBay 15% off (PICKSOON), the Minimoto Clan is on it’s way to me. Starter set, 2 Jyoto ashigaru and the clan cards. The seller didn’t have Hisoka or any bears. Those 7 figs are good for 47 rice. Since they all have Tetsubo, I guess I’ll be getting back to work on my home made one soon.

Oh yeah, Thanks Gits for sidetracking me into another game .
