Impressive stuff, Gitz!

I've been through Summaries 10, 11 and 12, to catch up a bit on what i missed over the years. Great stuff there man, and you can see painting improved vs first few summaries!

Now, forgive my ignorance but ... where do you store all these models?

Hey guys, thanks for stopping in! I'm in my annual "summer slump" at the moment so not a lot of painting getting done. I'll pick it up in a bit.

I have a room above my garage with all my hobby stuff in it. It's ridiculously full of models, terrain, etc. I need help.

No worries even with a slump, we don't have any chance of catching up to your page count, I'm looking forward to seeing you hit 600 also.
Does your hobby room get really hot in the summer, or is it okay? If you are in a slump for making stuff for the hobby, I know I would love to see some group photos of some of your collections, or a tour of your hobby room. (Of course that would be more work than the hobby itself).

Hey guys!

Just checking in. There will be some new things that are 40k in the future... though I might get Nerdy to paint them for me to keep my AdMech army consistent. Depending on the rules, I'll be picking up (perhaps many) of the new AdMech beast riders and at least a squad of the glider guys, because all of the above are super cool.

I'll also be playing some 9th locally with a bud, so perhaps that will inspire me to do some of my own painting. I don't have a ton of Bushido figures left to paint so perhaps that will open up this winter for getting back into some 40k work.

Adepticon is still a question mark for me. There has to be a readily accessible and reliable vaccine for me to attend. The GCT guys know it and have been very supportive. I'm still very willing to run the tournament, but I can't risk my or my families' health doing so.

Otherwise we are fine. Thing 1 is back at the University of Richmond, Thing 2 will be starting his junior year at a new high school next week, though it's virtual of course. Everyone else is fine. Looking forward to a very productive winter hobby season!

As always, thanks for being there for me. Does my spirit good to see there are still people who visit here. Hope you are all happy and healthy too.

OK all.

I muddled my way through my AdMech to see what's going to be on the work table...

I have...

4x Knight Armiger Warglaves
20 Skitarii
2 Tech Priests Dominus
2 Castellan Robots
1 Datasmith

I'm interested in...
Sulpherhounds
Pteraxii

I figure I'll build everything, paint the Warglaves myself (perhaps modfying 2 into the second variant) and send the rest to Nerdfest for painting. Not sure about what variants of the hounds and gliders to build yet. Will have to look at the rules and get some advice.

40k is back!

My friend Tyler and I played a little 500 pt patrol game yesterday. Our first in over 2 years. Was great fun though we screwed up the rules from end to end.

His new IG and my AdMech were arguing over a recently cleansed manufactorum. They wanted the Baneblade, we wanted the Manufactorum however they didn't file the proper paperwork to claim their Baneblade... so they were going to have to que. The IG didn't like that idea very much.

The table. 4 primaries (gold medallions) though they don't show up very well.

T1: kitty-corner deployment, everyone moves forward to nab objectives.

Using the baneblade for cover, the Dune Crawler drops the hammer on the IG Lehman Russ, killing it in T2.

T2: 3 Electropriests wipe the remaining 6 super-guard from the field of battle.

T3: Infiltrators... well... infiltrate behind enemy lines (in the way back behind the pipes) and cause chaos for a while until they are wiped by weight of fire.

T4: Big guard squad takes center table.

T4: Electropriests try to deal with last IG but meet their doom in the process.

Final Score: 44 to 42, AdMech. Tyler was killing me early on as I sacrificed objectives for kills early, then the tides turned late as I had 3 units to his 1 (HQ, dune cralwer and a small squad of skitarii). We beat the living crap out of each other though...

Also working on AdMechy terrain.

Finished painting a bunch of old, OOP Armorcast refinery pipes.

This is what I'm working on now (the rest of my collection). Hope to have all this done by the weekend.

Also working on these tank sets. I'm trying to do as much of everything as possible using spray cans... but I will end up adding some hand-painted detail to the pieces.

Lastly I found and ordered some extra Armorcast pieces from this set. Another refinery section, a power generator, some more pipes but mainly a number of intersections and ends, which will allow me to make a lot more interesting layout.

What, you had a 40k battle report and did not invite me! J/K looks like a lot of fun and the new terrain is coming along nicely. When the plague has passed I would love game sometime.

You're on!

Actually, Tyler and I are using the ongoing conflict between your Blood Angels and my Mantis Warriors as a model for building a similar narrative between his IG and my Forge.

Steady progress...

LOL! Thanks Theo!

Still making progress. Weathering is done. I was happy that the tanks are a pretty good match for the pipes as the techniques are different. Everything needs detail now. Copper pipes first, then wires & cables. Not sure what I'm going to add to the big tanks to make them interesting but I can print out some signs, posters and have some spare AdMech bits that I can add for interest. It won't take much effort to make the pipe sections ready to go but the tanks are going to take some work.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Update:

First batch done or nearly so. (refinery and pipelines) The tanks will stay as they are for the time being as taking them the next step will be pretty time consuming and I should have more refinery parts arriving any day now. The tanks actually fit right in as you can see even though their paint is very basic. Appropriate enough for a disused industrial center. Of course this is a lot denser than it would be on the table... however I could see doing something like this and calling the whole thing a large ruin.

I've been thinking up a story to go along with Tyler and my battles, similar that which Yorkright and I made up for our ongoing Blood Angel/Mantis Warrior rivalry. You guys interesting in hearing the early ideas? (it's not a lot... just a sketch really)

So I'm wondering if this post is going to take me to 600 pages. I guess we'll find out!

Been very busy this week working on my Armorcast refinery terrain. The final pic (at the end) won't look much different than the pic I posted earlier, but believe me... there's a week of hard work between them.

Let's see. I finished the main refinery piece. This has been OOP for a very long time. Delighted to have it done. Wish I could get a couple more but they just can't be had. Keep in mind these aren't complicated paint jobs by design... I just want to make them look good at table length. I can always add more detail later on.

Then I worked on a serious re-build of another refinery piece that was not what I was hoping. I was hoping for a base and two more towers, what I got was a base and two ruptured tanks. I didn't want this, so set about modifying the ruptured tanks and combining them with other bits from the set to turn them into something that matched the rest of the set.

I started out with two things that looked like this (not duplicates of each other but the same idea).

Then I cut the tops off and ground off the spillige from the sides of the tanks. Nice bit about this is I can still use the tops of the ruptured tanks for something.

When I'm done cutting-and-pasting bits... I get this! (much better)

So here's the whole set so far. Very close to 2'x3' of dense terrain.

I'm going to entertain myself by painting up the tank tops and re-painting a little control board piece to match. I should be getting a large shipment of pipe parts (pipes, intersections, supports and end pieces) any day now. Will throw myself into them when they arrive.

Lovely to see you getting back in the habit. There is something VERY satisfying about painting terrain, I find. Happy on the impedance of your sexcentary also!

Those armor cast pieces are really turning out great. You will have a planet sized refinery by the time your done.

Good work on cutting off those tops to get double use out of the parts.

Yeah, I agree 100%. Especially when you come up with a system that is simple and relatively quick but yields good results. For me I think what helps is that nice terrain improves every game it's used in... and in the case of my current ongoing series of games with Tyler's Astra Militarum... these will get used quite a bit (though not exclusively of course).

Theophony wrote:Those armor cast pieces are really turning out great. You will have a planet sized refinery by the time your done. Good work on cutting off those tops to get double use out of the parts.

Thanks Theo. Actually, once this last batch comes in I think I'll almost be done unless I bump into some of the really rare pieces. I'm actually going to be conducting a terrain purge. Have 3 sets that I'll be focusing on... orks (done), AdMech (nearly done) and marines (built but not painted). Most of the rest will probably get traded, sold or pitched (depending).

Briancj wrote:I'm VERY jealous that you have the small pipe walls AND the tall pipe overpasses. *shakes fist*--B

Knew I could count on you to be a kindred soul. It's not hyperbole to say I've been collecting these pieces for decades. Fell in love with this set long, long ago. I've ordered the connecting pieces for the low walls from Armorcast but I have very little hope of them actually following through on the order (though they did take my money readily enough). I think they used to make supports for the high pipe overpass but I haven't seen any for sale. I guess I'll keep looking just in case something comes up for sale.

Very nice! I've been pulling together all my industrial terrain bits to start constructing some necromunda terrain, so I'm looking around at how people are painting industrial stuff and it's so varied.

I liked the ruptured tanks. You could have stuck some magnets in there and made the tops swappable in case they get destroyed mid-game

@endtrans: Thanks! I can actually disassemble one of the two towers and put the ruptured tank top back on.

Speaking of which... had to entertain myself while I wait for the next order of Armorcast to come in, so...

Also re-painted an old piece that I picked up at a game store going-out-of-business sale. You can tell I didn't have anything else to work on because it's got a mighty 6 different colors on it!

Found these beauties in my gallery that I'd made long ago just for this set of terrain. Will be adding a LOT of these to give the various pieces some life.

That's all for now. Have another game on Thursday with Tyler. Will be writing up some background & will post here when complete.
Thanks for stopping and commenting!

OH, and the first comment should be the opening comment on page 600! (when it finally rolls over)
