The grot is a little confused as to the difference between the human an ork versions of the mechancus. It's all gubbins to him!

Thanks guys! Wonderful to have you along for the ride!

Finished up a little more refinery terrain. This is actually a pretty small set. The big tower is perhaps 5". I'm pretty sure this entire series was made for a tiny scale like Epic or even smaller, but the look so cool I use them for 40k anyway.

Started working on what should be the last major influx of items for the pipe walkways. Quite a bit actually... 9 intersections/supports and 6 or 7 short pipe sections. That should be it until the handful of upgrades for the pipe walls come in.

As much as I depend on your work to keep me interested in non-GW models and games I do enjoy when you revisit the 40k universe.

Terrain is looking excellent.

That is a lovely looking table.

If you are looking to liven up the tanks, you could rivet on a patch and then stick a few purity seals on it. Small leaks you can probably patch with just a purity seal, but big ones you need to rivet a plate over. But without the seal, it’s just going to anger the tank’s spirit and leak again.

@Nev: That is a hilarious idea! I do plan on livening up the tanks... but I just wanted to get things done so they could be placed on the table. Have some ideas as to how to pretty things up a bit but I'll certainly add yours to the list!

@graven: My son asked me the same thing... I don't know for sure. My guess is that it's a FatMat.

I must admit to being pretty chuffed at having finished all of this in a relatively short period of time. 3 weeks isn't exactly fast, but for how little I've been painting lately it's a pretty big accomplishment. I'm not quite done yet either... I have 5 laser-cut containers that are more 40k scale than the other ones I have (but no-where near as awesome) that I'll be painting next. Then I'll give myself a break on the terrain and start building my AdMech figures to get sent to Taz for painting (thanks Nerdy!). I have pulled out a few for myself to paint as well... but the onus is on getting the bulk of the new models built and painted quickly and well... that means getting them to Nerdfest as quickly as I can. I've also traded some 40k stuff I didn't need to my friend Tyler who's going to paint my new Bushido Wolf Clan for me in trade. So I'm making progress on that front too!

I've also been going through my terrain collection. Sorting everything and pulling things out for either disposal, trade or sale. Generally I'm just going to keep things that fit one of my main themes... the rest (even if they're nice pieces) need to go. I do have the "honored imperium" set and one of GW AdMech pieces that I'll be keeping and painting at some point as both will fit in with my other sets pretty nicely.

Does anyone know where the copywrite date or rules edition is indicated on the 40k codices? I have so many old ones and they're taking up a ton of space... but I can't tell most of the old ones from the new ones.

If it is anything like the AoS books I have, the contents page has a Designed By/Produced By block at the bottom. There is a copyright statement near the top of that block that has the book's release date in

A little 40k battle report from my AdMech/Astra Militarum campaign with Tyler.

Here's the table. The IG and AdMech are fighting over the remnants of an Imperial World (including a Draconus Mons forge) after it has been overrun by a branch Waaagh Gitsplitta, which was then encouraged to leave by a contingent of Grey Knights. As with many Imperial internal conflicts, this one started with miscommunication, then egos got involved. The first dispute (500 pts) was over a still in-tact Baneblade that the Astra Militarum (Cadians) were planning on claiming for their own. Draconus Forge saw this as theft of their property of course, and the first battle ensued (very narrow Draconus victory).

This time (750 pts) Draconus forces are trying to gain control over systems and administration facilities on the edge of the forge as doing so is necessary to begin the recovery of the forge. The Cadians however, have misinterpreted this as an attack on their temporary base, and are determine to repulse the attack.

Some OG Skitarii Vanguard (who look amazingly like Mechanicum troops) set up shop in a stone ruin (stone ruins give -1 to hit and +1 to armor saves). Both armies had stone ruins available. They have a good view of a Taurox on the other side of the battle field, but there's not much they can do about it.

Two squads of rangers set up in normal ruins (-1 to hit) in the back with 2 arquebuses each to snipe for enemy commanders. I love the idea of the arquibuses, but they're inconsistent and rarely accomplish their mission (killing enemy commanders).

The big dogs (Kataphron destroyers) set up in the other ruin. The guys on the bottom level are only overlapping so neither falls off. The did both fit on that level but if the table got jostled they'd come crashing down. That's also why the guy on the top has a rubberband around him. They did OK. The new rules help but they're just so easy to kill and SO expensive. I rarely field them as I think there are much more efficient units for the point cost. They did fit the scenario nicely though.

Don't ask me how tracked guys got up in the ruin... but they are infantry, not vehicles. In retrospect I wouldn't do this again. They can move and shoot their heavy weapons and they're objective secured... so I think they'd be more effective moving up the table and firing as they go.

A unit of skitarii and tech priests are below at ground level holding an objective just behind the tower.

This this is what things looked like at the end of turn 1. No casualties yet but the Taurox (behind the tower on the right) is pretty shot up.

Cadians move into a ruin near one of the center objectives.

Two units of Cadians move boldly up the center of the board.

Las Cannons take position in a large stone ruin.

First real show-down of the game. Draconus vanguard step forward and do a number on the Cadians, however they left a few alive, which stepped forward and retaliated pretty effectively.

On the opposite flank, the other vanguard squad did the same, they'd already taken out one squad of Cadians and would put the hurt on this one in the shooting phase... only to be bogged down in combat with the survivors and a Commissar.

Back on the near flank, the survivors and a second squad are going to do unfriendly things to the Draconus vanguard. The guy lying down is a "raised banner" on that objective for the Cadians.

Back of the far flank, the vanguard slog away with the Lord Commissar.

The remnants of an IG squad near center table... trying to decide their next move.

My priests charged a lone survivor of an IG/AdM melee on the near flank, from which they'd planned on consolidating towards a center objective. Unfortunately they electrocuted the poor sod on the charge... and since no melee really happened we decided no consolidation could happen either.

Just about an end-game shot. We called it on T4 as it was getting late and the outcome was clear.

Draconus Forge casualties.

Cadian casualties. In spite of this they won an overwhelming victory as Tyler did an excellent job playing the objectives and I was much too slow to react. He'll get an extra bonus as a result in our next game. Congrat's Tyler, well played!

So Draconus Forge has been thwarted in their efforts to re-establish control over the infrastructure of this region. What will they try next?? Only time will tell.

Hope you enjoyed it!

Excellent report. I do really like the fact although suffering heavy casualties the Guard still managed to win via objectives.

Far too often I saw games descend into slaughter everything and objectives be damned.

Thank you guys!

Another little terrain side-project. Cam made these for me years ago as supports for an orkified landing platform. Unfortunately the main platform warped... but... the supports are in perfect shape, so I conscripted them to serve as additional industrial terrain. I added the straight pipes on the piece with the ladder rungs. Nice to finally have these painted and in service. Hopefully one day I'll figure out how to fix the platform and put that in use too.

Hmmm... just realized I forgot to add the rust to the one in the bottom right. Back to work...

Congrats on 600 pages! Loved the battle report, that's a nice campaign you have going. Gotta echo the others, good to see that despite heavy losses Guard won the day. In other threads there's always discussion about stats, how many models a unit can kill but these reports show, that it is not the most important part of the game.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate all of your comments and support. I would have gotten bored of this thread long ago if it wasn't for the many, many people who've read, commented and contributed over the years.

Well, I finally painted some actual 40k figures. They aren't fancy, but I tried to paint neatly and even did a bit of blending on the cloaks. These are the two Skitarii alphas I need to lead my 30k subbing as 40k vanguard figures. They aren't in typical Mars colors so I painted the alphas to match. I figure they're some kind of special unit with an alternate coloring (even though they're still Mars).

Here are the two new guys... I may enhance they're bases a bit as these are kind of stark.

The alphas with a selection of their units. In general terms they match their men but the lighter grey cloaks will help them stand out on the tabletop.

Next I'll be building and painting the two AdMech miniatures from the Combat Arena boxed set. Then I'll start building things to send to Nerdfest for painting.

I may also do some grot tanks... even though they're overpriced... because I love them (and have another shipment of them coming in from Kromlech.... because I just can't help myself.
