well the fading of colour is always a good chipping detail, when you asked us, i was thinking of metal showing , streaks and such... but like this as you show us now , this i think is perfect... and mind you the phone cam pics aren´t too shabby...

Very nice job on the engines with the OSL effects.

Ah! Well hope that makes more sense.

Gitsplitta wrote:Very nice job on the engines with the OSL effects.

Cheers mate. I wonder if the grill across the lozenge shaped engine should be more red, kinda inverse glow? Not sure.

I was trying to make a vote appear, not sure how, however.

So, next up:
B-Wing or Z-95 Headhunter? (Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about the yellow TIE) Any preference team?

I was going to add a certain YT-1300 in there, but I'm not ready to start that yet.

I should add, tangentially, that I love the fact that I got Slave 1 for my 7th birthday, and now I've got it again for my 37th

I've always been a fan of the B-Wing, so that gets my vote for sure!

Oh well, as you're the only one

Had a couple of great wee games yesterday. Tried out the Falcon - refused to build the standard/meta build (Fat Han, as it is known) - and got annihilated. It's surprisingly fragile.

So then tried another idea, using a lovely B-Wing and filling the Falcon with Wookies (Chewbacca and a gunner).

Henceforth, this shall be known as WOOKIE RAGE!
Not crazy about the big ships tbh, but good learning curve. The B-Wing is brutal and did lots of nifty tricks with the crew.

Anyway, speaking of B-Wings, that's what I'm on to next (Pics are stock paintjobs, rather than my repaints, btw). But I have a problem with B-Wings - the flight stand:

Not only does it look odd, any chance of OSL is basically nixed because of its location. Also, when I think B-Wing, I think of them as being horizontal, not vertical (mostly).

So let's start getting by rid of the peg:

Of course, there's added complexity: B-Wing cockpits always stay level on the x-axis. Hmm.

But, I noticed a tiny gap behind the cockpit - hey presto!

Cockpit popped off really easily. A bit of trimming on the peg and...

And side-by-side:

And with a flight stand:

Much happier! What do you reckon? And now, what do I do with the unmodified one - thoughts?

Cheers chaps,
Graven

much, much better! i too picture the B-wing rather horizontal than upright... or slightly cocked even...

i try to follow your pictures with the added text... but it seems they doesn´t match???... i see what you did and understand the text... but there seems to be some kind of weird mix...

also... for me the B-wing is comparable with the tie defender... both are hopelessly OOT assault crafts... kinda like small death stars... i played most of the games of the x-wing to tie fighter series... and once you got to these ships ...winning missions was inevitable... (and yep... i am ancient, and played even the games on my friends 486er...)

Thanks mate. Think I've fixed the pics. I too am of the -86 generation! Hence my B wing love. So should I move the other one? Or reposition its peg somehow, leaving it vertical?

i think for this fighter that "stance" is nice! next one i think should be tilted slightly differently...these are the sole models think where the stance has such a striking effect...tho...of course an x-wing or a tie fighter would benefit too from a tad of tilting...

and yep... pics work now in unison with the text

I'm inclined to agree,I'm thinking of tilting it slightly with the cockpit just a little to the left of the vertical.

Tilting other ships, that's another matter... Although my Falcon likes to lean like a drunk

Yup, although the paint should help. These various things that make folk not think my minis are theirs (a real problem with prepaints).
One of the other guys last night had LED'd his Slave 1 that was pretty.
Also, one of the TOs was smitten with my base and bought it off me *does snoopy happy dance* delighted and acquired a lovely set of acrylic rulers, templates and tokens (the range Ruler even says pew pew pew on it ) in exchange (ie sold for £40) - not only that, but got another one definite and one maybe commission off the back of it. Given that this is junk modelling for profit I couldn't be happier with that result on top of winning the LOER contest

Speaking of which (good link eh?) there's still loads of time to get involved! Click the link in my sig for more details!

Loving the B-wing! I also agree that the B-wing isn't vertical, and should be horizontal, it looks weird the other way around.

I like the mods on the B-wings. I too recall the old days of X-Wing on the -86 systems, and how crazy powerful those things were. Even at the time though, I never understood why the cockpit spun. I remember trying to take advantage of it in game, but it never seemed to matter.

Still, they look a LOT better at an angle or horizontal than vertical. Good call.

The games never quite got it right. It seems odd to me though because ultimately, there is no up/down in space. And cheers! Repainting has begun...

Always "fun" to make white grubby!

So with my 2 Bs done, on to my 2nd A-wing and Z95 next, then the Falcon.

Slightly alarmed at the lack of momentum that the LOER contest seems to have. Do swing by (link in my sig!) and check it out!

B-wings are awesome. Always was sad they didn't get more love in the movies. You should build an entire wing of them, all tilted at different angles.

Good work on the B-wings.

Don't worry about the contest, it'll pick up. There's 10 weeks (well probably 9 now) to go and I had people enter after week 8... they didn't finish, but you know what I mean.

You have got the summer shift, so with people's holidays etc. it may be patchy.

I keep forgetting to plug it when I've updated recently... I'll go do that now.

Hehehe like the teeth idea I'm trying to work out if a 3B list is viable actually.

Meanwhile, two very different wips from the 2 ends of the Rebellion. Z95 headhunter, forerunner to the x wing. An old ship, so I reckon it should be absolutely filthy :

And the refit of the a wing, the Rebellion's most advanced ship. Not sure about the ultra shiny scheme (very close to the original).

Should it be muckier?

I don't know, there's a lot of old muscle cars driving around here in the states that are nice and shiney, like they just rolled off the assembly line. If I were a fighter pilot I'd be making sure my ride was in top notch shape. What good is the rebellion if your fighter breaks down and is on the shoulder of the space lane until AAA comes out to tow you away .

Of course I drive a 14 year old SUV which gets washed only when it rains so I guess the grubby looking ship is more of what I'd be piloting.

One of the EU explanations bandied about for it was that it was referred to by some as a 'blade-wing' due to the sword-like shape in attack mode, and this was shortened to 'B-wing'. Which I like personally, because I agree it's really hard to see a B in its shape...

Started thinking about actual figures again. I have a Kurganova command group from TGG that I was thinking for sob but not quite right; however, that aesthetic could really work for arkham - I'm thinking as a Harley Quins crews, do them all on different Harley/Joker schemes - How does that sound?

I think he means since the TGG (Toughest Girls in the Galaxy) figures scale size is larger than GW it doesn't fit his SOB look as well as it fits with the scale of the Batman game figures which I believe are 30-35mm scale.
