That Jugger is looking absolutely stunning girl! Thanks for hosting the pics somewhere where I can see them!

I know you have set the bar extra high for yourself by accident but I have faith that you can jump over it and succeed! It just means I will be holding on to my comissions a little longer

The bar rocketed out of my hands ant into the stratosphere for this one, I'm not sure why I decided to try so many new things with him but I am extremely happy I did.

I think this Juggy is pushing my skills further than ever before, it is really exciting me. I've never seen myself able to do well with freehanding in the past, now I think I can.
Might have to add a new level to my standard options, this guy is so far past any other showpiece standard mini I have painted that it's cray cray..

I am still running into big problems working out prices for things as well. This Juggy on his finished base with rider will come in at €100 and that just feels totally wrong, but if I price at a proper ratio of cash to time spent on painting, the commissions would be so expensive I would probably stop getting any :( I'm not exactly at the level of skill or fame where I can charge amounts of money that are fairer for the time spent yet, but I'm going to have to look through what I'm charging again. I've not changed it in months and I do feel I've improved quite a lot since I last did. (No one already booked with me will have altered prices, don't worry!) I may also be taking on quite a lot less

But anyway, less angst and more painting. Here is the Juggy now -

Lots more detailing down. Nice to see the purple contrast in the mouth start to pay off.

Skulls about 80%, kept them very old looking, didin't really want them contending with other detail. Teeth are nearly finished, might give them one m
ore streak highlight. Eyes finished, flip flopped between glow and gem effect repeatedly but figured a subtle gem + shine would work well, and I think it did.

Went with black/light green to really pop against the red. Just needs his blacks and hooves to be started up, hooves wont be done till he is on the base but I will start blacks shortly. Ready to start on the rider now I think..

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Oh! And here, finished eyemelting squiggle. No idea why his front highlights aren't showing as yellow as they should in the shots, they are bad moon yellow so they are preeeetty bright!

A cutey as always. If you find horrible teeth monsters cute.

Holy Ifalnorks batman... That looks absolutely awesome.
I love the way the glowing cracks fade into the red. The teeth are really good. The metal look suitably old and dirty... and is that a reflection of the glow on the base of the brass horn thing on it's head that you've painted on? That's brilliant.

Good job. I shall now go and calm myself down and stop sounding like a demented fan or something.

I know whatcha mean exactly. Im just starting up a Commission service, and find I spend too much time per model. For me, I think it means refining my technique. Not so much cutting corners as finding efficient solutions... Granted, of course, that Im nowhere NEAR your level.... That Jugger looks absolutely breathtaking... Ive much to learn!
As far as suggesting something to help you out with the paint/price dilemma... man i dunno. Raise prices a bit and add an "Everything but the kitchen sink" level of painting. Whatever you do, I wish you the greatest of luck, and I look forward to learning more from your blog!

That jugger is looking extraordinary, Iffy. The metals look great, the red is amazing... you're right, it should go for quite a bit more than 100. I've seen other commission painters charge 150€ for showcase-quality infantry, he was still a tad better than you, but since this is quite a big model, you could probably charge more than 150, maybe 200.
But then again, I don't know much about commission work. Just my 2 cents

LOOK!! a shameless self-promotion! (gasp!)

That orange squig is adorable! I want one.

The Juggernaut is looking awesome as well. I've been wading through your blog over the last couple of weeks and the improvement in your painting is incredible - and it was pretty good to start off with. I think your attitude is fantastic too. The way that you are always trying new things and striving to improve, as well as giving tons of help and advice to anyone who asks, is very inspirational. Reading your blog makes me want to get painting right away and - this may sound odd - but it gives me confidence as well, probably because you are so open about mistakes or set-backs in your work but just get on with it and still produce an excellent paint job. I'm going to stop gushing now before I freak you out (apologies if I've already done so!) and I look forwards to another 100 or so pages to come.

Funny that this little guy outshines the amazing paint job on the jugger but he is just so cute, as you say.

For the jugger- I'm looking at the spikes on the gold collar, and there is a dark circle at their base, almost like the pooling of a wash. Is there more to do here, or is that on purpose, etc?

The red is absolutely stunning! And I love how dark everything feels (the gold, the red, and even the skulls).

OH-I Wanna get out of here

With a suitably epic rider and base, might be wise to ask the owner if you could use it for a Golden Daemon. Would be great to see you weigh yourself with the elite as we'll as get your name out there. I do hear the euro daemons are crazy though. A fight broke out at one recently even.

I was going to add more detail around the spikes bases, but it turned out leaving the pooling alone was one of those things that actually looks really good in real life and photo's badly, so I'm going to leave it as is bar maybe a few more tiny mithril highlights as I go.

@WM, wow, I don't think he is near the standard needed for a GD entry at all yet, that and at the moment I would have no way to afford traveling to one to enter! Thanks for the vote of confidence though, that is seriously appreciated Financial situation should be much improved relatively soon though, so it is indeed something I want to get around to entering as soon as I feel I am skilled enough to give it a shot!

Will have updates tomorrow, started work on an interesting ork for Gits and started the tedious task of getting the rider assembled and primed. I also went ahead and bought some awesome giant corks, which will be great for both basing and pinning figs into so I can hold them easier!

Why does Git's Ork have a rider?

And I have to say, Ifalna, that from the look of the Jugger a GD entry may be a good Idea. Maybe you could enter your top-notch Ifalnorks...

It's something I will definitely be keeping in mind in the future, working on something in the background that I am doing as well as I am physically able to could result in a really nice mini I could use for a future GD, I would be so happy just to be there, yet alone be entering something! haha.

Here is the early WIP for an awesome old Badmoon orky for mr Gits! Base metals down, base colours down, and base rusts down. After this comes all the weathering and paint chipping, then highlighting. I think he will look surprisingly different as he progresses.

Blotchy reds and yellows are on purpose, I have a plan for them

Half of him is still black so the shots arent great, but figured I would post progress anyway! <3

Ah ok. The klaw was throwing me off. I'm pretty sure i've seen that same klaw on a necromunda model (maybe...) or a Lost and Damned mutant. What ever it was IT was most likely the conversion.

I'm looking forward to the finished Jugger too! Will be working on the rider once this Orky is done, which should be by tomorrow night

Work continues on super old Nazdreg fig, more yellow! MORE YELLOW.

Still some finish work to happen with the yellow itself, but weathering is now done I think. Need to touch up the red and yellow chips, then start on his skin which will make a huuuge difference to his colour scheme Skulls, gun detail, and little accessories will all come after that. Not long to go now though.

Annnnd more!

I had planned on getting this guy finished today, but was not happy with the amount of character I had given the face and kept working on it till I felt better, which was a surprisingly large amount of time!

Mouth still needs teeth to be done, gun needs finishing, started on accessories, skulls need some finishing and helmet needs doing, but he is looking far better now his skin is done. Colour scheme is actually showing properly.

Also, the awesome Jugger rider is pinned and ready to go

Loving the combo of new proper sized pinning wire (cough paperclip cough cough) and the cork holders, they feel really great and sturdy and hold the models perfectly. His shield will be attached later as it blocks quite a lot of him for painting. Angled his head down a bit as well as the final base will have the juggy and him quite raised up.
