Thanks guys
I really appreciate your feedback. I helps to keep the motor running. And thanks for voting on the images.
@AnUnearthlyChilde - I'm not sure about your question...do you mean the individual vehicles?
If so, the HERCULES is called "Elric", based on the mural on the side, representing Michael Moorcocks Elric of Melniboné
The PONOS is called "Gecko" - from the face
Well, I already have some funny ideas for the next project ... well to be honest I already started it...it will be relativey low on the build/modify scale, but hopefully something very new on the paint side
Code name: "Swift, Silent, Deadly"
Cheers

Well, I have to admit that I didn't really.
I started off with my huge "Scarabeus" which was a huge sandcrawler thing, that could transport some tanks and APC's into battle - fluff wise it was the adaption of a ore mining transporter pressed into military service. All other vehicles I built after that, I build with Dencara fluff in mind, where Dencara is actually a planet, just left of the Universes rear end, completely forgotten, and for centuries left to itself, so poor that it was freed from taxes and stuff. But the unique setup of the planets in the Dencara system constanty drew meterites and stuff onto the main planet Dencara 5, delivering precious earths and minerals and ores, which the Dencarans began to mine.
So Dencara became rather rich and its ores were well apreciated on some forge worlds.
then the Orks invaded - by accident - and the never ending struggle on Dencara began. Being so far off, the Dencarans used their own devices, some Leonardo da Vinci stuff, and developed and built their own weapons and vehicles. Not quite up to the Imperial standards, a bit set-back (steampunky), but stil inovative and effective.
So not really STC at all
But it has really been a while since I seriously spend throughts on the fluff - I just built what came to my crazy mind, and somehow made it fit the Dencara style.
Cheers

well tbh, thats a really concise background tbh... and I think it wouldnt be out of place to call it the Dencaran STC.
nearly everything in the imperium of any note is built with an STC as well. that includes transports and industrial vehicles

I'm not sure it's only the Y/Z keys, currently all keys conduct evasive manouvering when confronted with my stubby fingers ;-)
But you know me, I'm not here for the fun. When I'm in da house, it's business!
As mentioned before I have this wierd Special Forces idea. It all started when I did some Internet research on Beach Landing and Amphibious Assaults - as some of you seem to think the PONOS is just made for this purpose.
During the research I came across this image
It shows two Marines from the USMC Recon Force landing on a beach. I find this image and the pose very intense, it projects a very strong message (I think).
I also came across several night vision images, just like this one
Well, you know me
If I have such a strong idea, I need to build it.
The idea is to have some Special Forces infiltrating an Ork complex to do "force recon" - sabotage, assasination, cause havoc.
With this in mind I assembled a small base (actually a lid of a storage glass) and 3 troopers.
Not exactly the same pose, but I think I can make this work.
So I thought about an Ork complex and how to display it on such a small area and decided to concentrate on an area directly behind the fence/wall, showing the breach where my team entered.
I think this will work
So I worked some more on the troopers. Since they are operating clandestine, they can't use a Las-Rifle or a Bolter, so I created some silenced guns, with large silencer, scope, folding stock, and a double magazine.
To make the base a bit more dramatic I decided to also add a dead Ork guard
The troopers also received straps for their rifles as well as night vision goggles
In addition they got some modified backpacks with somne explosives, cable, and a folding ladder
and after 3 intensive evenings of building I got this:
So, what do you think?
What's your feeling about painting the whole scene in night vision green?
Any feedback, suggestions, tips?
I look forward to it
Cheers
Klaus

i have a big suggestion... paint the whole thing in greens and blacks... just as you would see it in night vision... that would be something totally new...!!!
as for the pics... i like it to pieces... there is an art in making a small base look good, tell a story and even dont make it look too crowded... an art which you nailed down ^^

Yay, more candy! i am absolutely excited to see you paint this in night vision green! the image will be something i've not seen anywhere else! in some ways it will be easier as you're only using the green spectrum, but getting the details to pop and show will be tricky and I think your shades and highlights are going to be have to be very high in order to give the viewer an instantly recognisable diorama! can't wait Klaus! get to it man :-)

Great diorama, but I have doubts about the NV scheme... The idea is cool but tbh the actual paint is bound to look like LOTR ghosts IMO. My vote it's for pale colours like at nights during polar day. It's like you can see all the colours but they seem extremely pale and greyish.

Great mini diorama! Great context, and I think the scene explains itself well. I love how true you stayed to the reference pics! Great selection. As always, you take something pretty regular ( IG troopers in this case) and turn them into something spectacular. I thought you said that there wasn't much converting in this project!
A few bits of CC: Not a big fan of the current double mags. It's kind of difficult to tell what they are. What about using bolter mags? I think one of the SDS guys should be weilding some sort of combat blade, since the ork has it's throat slit. Maybe with his rifle dangling from it's strap or something. That would also add a bit of diversity to their load out.

My first thought when painting it all in NV green was mentioned was "that might look a bit boring".
However, now I've thought about it, it's a good chance to really show off some OSL skills, and you really have that in spades Klaus.
You could give one or two of them an IR light and show that lighting up the area, and even normal light sources will look spectacularly bright in NV conditions.
And I agree with Rawson, one of them needs a knife, best thing for stealth and opening arteries.
