Although none of mine are still in their blisters, there's quite a few that are still shiny as they're still on the to-do list

Ahh, sometimes I miss using those Humbrol paints. Sure, I don't need turps anymore, and my brushes last a bit longer - but in some ways I found it easier to use enamels - the long drying times were a blessing for blending, something I still haven't got the hang of with acrylics

I hear that this stuff http://www.liquitex.com/slowdriblendingmedium/ works well for use with blending. I have a bottle, but I have yet to try it. It has a slight ammonia smell.

About the mystery model... Is it from the Undead range, an old wight or somesuch. The armor is in that style.

Nice effect on seahorse man's shield.

Yeah - I have a couple of different bottles of similar mediums that I've yet to try out myself. Somewhere next to the materials I have for creating a wet pallete.
Ummm...maybe I should try using some of this stuff I keep buying.....

Now now monkeytroll you should try out those mediums. I always supliment my wet blending with water and washes - but I get the feeling that the special vallejo range I use already has special mediums in it. I live in fear of them discontinuing it. My painting might suffer!

Enamels, well I don;t know about that. Aren't they poisonous? Every now and then I absent-mindedly lick the brush into shape...

Tomorrow I will have a fine piece of chaos warrior goodness for you all, but today I am a): celebrating a three day weekend with wine and b): drinking to soften the blow of my co-worker winning 80 grand on a scratch card, ooooh it should have been me! I would have had more fun with it!!

Hi JoshinJapan, I'm pleased to have stirred your nostalgia.

Another old classic from the range, Stro'knor Macekiller.

And some things I've selected to paint soon, A halfling chef, repaired lord of battle, and a spearman from the fighter range:

A kitbashed marauder, 90s bloodletter, a very early 80s chaos warrior and a plastic model I think is from talisman:

I'm loving seeing these old classics painted up. It's always great to see people treating these older models with the respect that they deserve, rather than writing them off with derisive comments simply because they're older than 3-5 years...

Yes, back in my day we respected our elders!

No... wait... that was I lie I think.

But I'm glad we at least appreciate the classics.

All that modern stuff is all very nicely done, but back in the day they were trailblazing pioneers of miniaturization, using only eyes and maybe a magnifying glass, no computer assisted design for them.

So anyway, here is a bloodthirster from '91 and a halfling chef. I think I need to thank someone for that chef model, probably inmygravenimage. Thanks graven. The bloodthirster makes me think of tim curry... Very happy with the skin and colour balance. The halfling may need working on.

That's a bloodletter... minor demon of Khorne.

Yep, a bloodletter. Used to get then in blisters of 2.

The Halfling chef is the crew chief from the old halfing hot pot-- basically a big slingshot-- that used to be available to the Empire army pre 5th ed. WHFB. There would be a cauldron and two halfing sous-chefs to pull it back. I think I have one still lurking about. Halflings were a fun part of Empire armies, until 5th ed 'squatted' them.

Maybe some food stains on his apron?

Macekiller and two-swords both look great.

Tim Curry-Lite is very nice.

And Rob Beckett looks a lot shorter there....but impressively painted

Rob becket hah! Yes he is the spitting image.

Red I've got the whole hot-pot thing, but I thought I'd start with the head chef as he makes I nice stand alone character. I dont think he is quite done yet so maybe he will have some stains. And the NMM on the cleaver needs tightening up.

Blood-letter, ok so he doesn't thirst for blood he lets it (rents it out by the square foot?). My bad I knew he was a minor demon but I get similar names confused.

These chaps have a nice coherant paint scheme going on. I'm thinking of them as a little warband of retainers. They need a leader! I've nothing handy at the mo but I'm sure a mini will present itself.

Nice looking lads! I might have suggested using orange to highlight the bloodletter a bit, with a little brown or purple as shading. Highlighting red with pink/white looks good for faded clothes, but I find I prefer the warmth of some orangey yellow for rich cloth or red flesh.

They look great, Weety!

I especially like the halfling but I agree that he needs some stains or something on his white hat or apron.

Keep his cleaver clean though. I like him more funny and less menacing.

The human fighters are also very appealing. I particularly admire the crossbowman though at times I think his right hand is resting on his old, tired back as he wishes for a wee dram to keep the chill off.

The secret to painting a really big army is to keep at it. You can't reach your destination if you never take any steps.

Wehrkind - I was just thinking of getting some orange in my next paint shipment. It was pink I used... oh and I just noticed I missed his thumb claw! damn.

Thanks JB. I reckon he is pretty old and cold with his grey beard hair. I'll be looking out for other random humans to join this warband as I love the paint scheme.

Speaking of colors, one I like to use for red is a mustardy ochre, which if I was near my paints I could name for you in Vallejo speak. Avoids the burny look that orange sometimes gets, but retains the warmth and solidity nicely.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Ahh here we go! Forgot I had a pic of that

Dark Flesh or Yellow Ochre (which, in retrospect, seems obvious). Those work out nicely for me.

Its always helpful to have things translated into vallejo, its my chosen media. Mustardy ochre, I'll check it out.

Don’t forget the ketchup-y ochre. Or are we not talking about stains on the halfling chef’s apron? I kinda stopped thinking after “mustard” and went to get a snack. What is the little guy cooking anyway? You’ll want to match the stains to the dish.

I like the not orange highlights. I look at real world examples and I just see lighter shades of red rather than orange most of the time.

I recognize the Bretonnian Archer from the 5e WHFB box (Lizardmen v. Bretonnians, with a nice little papercraft Bretonnian cottage included.) Perhaps the Merry Band needs a mounted figure as a leader?

I love all the new stuff weety! That halfling cook is one of my absolute favorite GW minis ever. I remember staring at those pics as a kid, bring totally sucked into to the whfb universe. All the stains on his apron lol. I like your cleaner look too! And the blood letter is fantastic. Your style really shines when painting red.

Cheers!
