Those Heroquest figures are bright and cartoony, which is just the way they should be! The Pendraken stuff is much more sensible. Also the way it should be.

Working on a 40k bloodthirster... which I've never had much motivation for. Still lacking it but I'm going to try and push through.

How many different codes are you looking at there, Siggy?

Heroquest set came out looking good - is it time for you to make copies of the card sections of the terrain, in case they don't come with the models when you paint them?

@Gitsplitta: Cheers! It's all in the mix, isn't it. Is it the new plastic one? If so - which weapon combo did you go for?

@Dysartes: Just over 50.Numbers of figures per code range from 1 to 5 (or 4 plus a gun, in case of the artillery). The idea with the copies of the cardboard pieces is a good one actually. In fact I got a pretty much complete set of Heroquest figures and furniture in my "general purpose and D&D box of things". Could have gotten those out. Side note: In our current D&D campaign I use the Heroquest wizard figure to depict my character. Come to think of it, it's the only unpainted figure in our party. (i have to admit, much to my shame).

Right, I got one of those dolls now. I'm not proud of it.

@Dysartes: No idea. At this point I don't have any particular preferences to be honest. Any ideas? I think that with a figure as large as that dude a more sombre look might work better than on 28mm figures, while a gaudy colour scheme would make him look too much like ...well, a doll. But then of course anything can be painted all moody and dirty anyway, so it's down to chapter preferences, I guess.

Was it made by GW? Did it cost you $300??

For some reason I can't remember, I tagged it as a D-thirster in the past. He's got a 2-handed, single-bladed axe.

Given we've got Gits as a regular in here, Siggy, I'd be remiss if I didn't suggest Mantis Warriors as the Chapter - with bonus points if the bolt rifle can be converted to a Stalker, and the dude painted as a Tranquility Veteran...

@Gitsplitta: I still may have a weakness for wacky GW stuff, but I'm not THAT willing to split with lots of money for a space marines doll. He's from the new-er McFarlane range, which cost GBP 24 or so a pop. They're as official as they get. You can buy them off GW's website and their stockists. They'll also release SoB in early 2021. Didn't pre-order this one though, because I'm a be worried about customs from the UK to mainland europe. Who knows what'll happen.

@Dysartes: Not a bad call. It's been a while since I painted a Mantis Warrior.

Siggy painted one for me! The only named character in my entire chapter (FW Libby... who doesn't appear to be in the proposed FW update book...) (grumble)

He did an amazing job. I'd be he'd knock a tranquility sniper out of the park!

@Gitsplitta: Cheers.

Here's a thing I painted:

It's a dragon I painted for a friend. about 4cm from toes to the top of the snout (that's the dragon, not my friend). It's a 3d print, and thus somewhat trickier to paint of course due to that yucky 3d printing texture.

Here's other things I painted; I finished Pendraken's 10mm English Civil War range. Here are some example shots I sent to them earlier today:

Officers/Cavalry

Infantry/Artillery

Hope you like them.

Yeah, some within the GW niche of wargaming may find painting historicals odd to begin with, but I've done cake toppers, birthday presents, lawn ornaments, 'restored' an old lawn ornament, patched up wooden nativity scene figures from the 19th century, ...

@Dysartes: A rather boring story, sadly. It was just touching up small cracks and holes in the pretty dark and aged colours..

Heyhey. I got to workin' on the next figures for my 1809 Sharp Practice project - 2 units of skirmishers and one officer from Militärgrenzregiment Nr.14, Székler Nr.1. Just a WIP shot for now (and weirdly blurry), but at least from the picture you can guess which colour goes where, and detailwork's not done yet properly anyway.

These chaps retained their white coats until 1815; officers and NCOs seem to have gotten their prescribed tobacco brown coats (which we see Grenzers in usually) a bit earlier than that. For 1809 though it's white coats for everybody.

First of the units I do specifically for the Vistula campaign (as all the infantry for the Tyrolean theatre of war is done). These guys were detached from the main force for the battle of Raszyn, the only proper battle of the campaign. But once I find good literature on the matter I'm very sure that the campaign is ripe with all sorts of skirmish fun. Loads of space to skirmish, loads of uncooperative folk, loads of horrifying Polish horsemen, ...

@Gitsplitta: Indeed. Well, more of a pink, but I haven't added highlights yet.

Heyhey. So what has this Sigur been up to the past two weeks?

Well, the past weekend I paint something proper niche-y: a handful of 25mm Minifigs Sappeurs of the Imperial Guard. Proper good uniforms and helmets. I'll post pictures once they're on bases.

Then there was this:

Here's 212 dudes, depicting six line battalions, mostly finished (except for the pompoms). Sadly I don't get to base them, but at least I get to put flags on them in the end. Right now I'm working on four battalions of light infantry. After those I'll tackle those two battalions in greatcoats (provisional line infantry) and the 1st Dragoons. On those I feel a bit like Napoleon, because right now they're about 50% short on horses. I suspect those cheeky Hussars having stolen the horses. I was told the remaining horses would get sent along with the flags next week. Oh well, I won't run out of stuff to do in the mean time.

After all those French I'll tackle four battalions of Austrians. Not sure if I'll lose my mind of my eyesight first. Send help.

Right-o, the light infantry's done, and so are the 1st dragoons (riders only).

. Tomorrow I'll start tackling the Austrians. That'll be another hurdle, but I hope to get'em done swiftly and prettily.

@Gitsplitta: : Thanks very much. Armies of miniatures are just a very, very cool thing, right?

Heyhey, I just finished the last 18mm AB Minis! For now, at least. Phew.

Here's a photo of the command figures. French (note the NCOs in greatcoats carrying little company fanions. ALSO note that I forgot painting the pompom on the eagle carrier in the beige greatcoat. That's fixed now.):

Austrians:

One of the reasons why I took these pictures is the officer figures, because I really like them. Especially the ones in the blue greatcoats.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Here we got the rest of the Austrians:

...and some more officers!

Austrians:

Here they are with their French colleagues:

The very same French officers:

Here's more!

1st Dragoons:

Note the little "1"s I painted onto the shabracks and the boxy things behind the saddles (Portmanteaus?).

Maybe an Austrian staff officer and aide de camp snuck in between them here and there, because I paint the horses all on paintysticks and glue on riders as seen fit once the horse is done. This way I can do a nice mix of shades of horse and match poses and so on.

By the way, if you're ever out for a good experience glue some AB Miniatures dragoons to their horses. The fit is just beautiful.

Here's photos of the provisional battalions, mostly because I haven't shown them properly yet (not that they look that magnificent, but I really like their officers ):

Right-o, that's that. I'll return them to their owner and hope he'll send me pictures once they're based! Hope you like them.

It's the plastic version from the new Crisis Protocol game. Huge figures. 45mm in size I'd say.

So, is "Amazing" part of spiderman's name, or is it a description of the paint job?
