Somehow I couldn't sleep this night so after some time of lying around I got up again and finished these. Usually when I'm in this state I'd ramble on about things but I can't even think of anything. Hey, there's been a price increase of GW things yesterday. According to Brückenkopf it only affects paints and sprays for us German Zone people or what the heck GW calls this bit of Europe so that's at least something. One thing about the new GW paints - I don't like them very much. Not that I got too many of them apart from a handful or so for that big review we did on Tale of Painters back when they were new and so far both of the "layer" and "base" pots I got dried up despite those cool new pots. They go all gooey very quickly and are hard to properly dissolve again. Annoying. Metallics are really good though. They seem to seperate the liquid medium from the pigments or shiny bits a bit quicker than they used to I think but they're still just as good stuff. Glazes are good as well but I rarely use them. You make your own glazes, right? Yes, Sir. The washes I never used much mostly because the ones I tried really didn't impress me. No, Sir. I also still can't get over the fact that you pretty much can't use these new pots for stacking anything on top of each other.

However, the metallics are nice. And the paints themselves are okay too of course but I was a bit distraught to realize that even these supercool new pots mk.2 (mk.2 = "keeps the goddamn lid open so you don't get half the paint on your brush's handle") don't shut stuff airtight. Ne'er mind though. It's good product. Maybe I just didn't use them often enough or something.

Okay guys, there will be a proper update again soon but for now we got a quiz!

I made a really silly and outright n00bish mistake on the assault squad. The first to point it out gets an internet cookie. (I already had my shame cookie)

The only thing I can see which might be it is the Tactical symbols on the shoulder pads.

Really embarassing. I fixed it now but I'm still angry at myself about that. Especially as I know exactly how it happened: I was reading through the SM Legions list from the huge Horus Heresy book FW published and was so taken by the fact that Assault Squads are troops choices I somehow associated with the tactical arrows. So essentially I blame GW. Also, those prices, right?


Anyone of you got cool stuff lined up for the weekend? I'm not sure if I should be a good boy and keep on painting Space Marines or maybe try my hand at one of my own minis for the weekend?

Think I'm going to get my boat out of storage and take the kids fishing...

Those champs. Really cool minis and surprisingly characterful, right? Due to stance, weapons and armour they look like completely different characters.




Those two are always fun to paint. Some slight conversions and they're a really cool addition to a ..well, very cool army.

I just think these World Eaters are so incredible. Made more so by the fact that I've been listening to the first three books of the Heresy series and the World Eaters figure prominently in the third book. You painting is just how I imagine them... really brings them to life in a wonderful/horrible way!

I changes my modus operandi around a bit on those guys. They'll get some more badges and signs and such, then I'll add the battle damage.


That aside, I built a few more Space Marines for a surprise return. Still have to wait on some forgeworld parts though and I hope to god they arrive soon.

THAT aside, I'm currently working on a GW kit review. Well, on the base mostly at the moment:


T.H.A.T. aside, I got a review copy sent to me from Wargames Factory. This is something I'm actually somewhat proud of (and that happens rarely, believe me). I don't go around asking for review copies of anything because I find it to be weird to go ask around for free toys. And I know that there are enough people out there who do that. When Hasslefree came up with their Grymn walker model, someone asked them for three copies of the model for 'review reasons'. And I'm sure you'll see why I don't want to come across as that kind of person in the slightest. However, I posted my reviews of Wargames Factory's Zombies and Zombie Vixens on their facebook page and soon after that I was contacted, they let me know that they liked and appreciated the reviews a lot (not sure if that's a good thing ) and asked if I'd review a then-upcoming new box from their Dark Futures series as well. I wasn't even sure if they'd send me just something like a sample sprue or something but lo and behold, I got a full box. Really cool. This won't be a regular thing of course and I'm sure a company the size of Wargames Factory sends out of review copies of their new products but it's a little bit of a personal highlight for me. So yeah, that's what I'm working on as well at the moment. I guess I'm beasts of war now. I am Gamespot. I am Siskel and Ebert. I'm bigger than jesus. And I got plastic toys to write about.

These are by far the coolest Heresy-era World Eaters I've ever seen.

As someone who also plans on doing World Eaters, I'm very curious as to how you do your white on their armor! It looks much better than just the plain white that I paint my guys with. In any case, subscribed to your blog.

(Also World Eaters totally had Librarians so don't worry about anyone complaining about it, it's completely in-line with the background written. Of course, after they all turn to Khorne, being a Librarian is not exactly an enviable position. )

@Vladsimpaler: Thanks for backing me up on this. The whole white thing is rather simple. Dusting (black primer, white primer) will get you very far already.

Attack Bikes




First Attack Bike








The idea was to make the attack bikes look a bit different to each other as there is a strong focus on individuality in this army as you might remember. These guys have been besieged for quite a while, fending off Orks left and right constantly, so the fellas are dirty, wounded and kind of crazy and their equipment beaten and worn. On this fist attack bike, the gunner's throwing a frag grenade at something they're just passing by which is an image I always enjoyed for some reason.

The other attack bike has the driver firing his bolt pistol whilst driving because in 40k you just can't keep drivers of anything from getting their handguns out and firing them somewhere. They also got a bunch of battle honours on the attack bike, probably because the gunner keeps focussed and doesn't start chucking grenades left and right.






So glad I finally found some bases for these attack bikes too.



Then there's of course Assault Terminators squad GALLACUS (as you may remember, this army is based on the force at the defence of Rynn City):

This is a weird thing to say but I have to admit that this is the first (28mm ) Land Raider I ever built. Given how many Space Marines I painted over the years this probably really seems weird but there ya go. The amazing leaps and bounds life and fate like to take, I guess. Anyway, I have to say that I adore that front hatch/assault ramp mechanism. Whenever I saw this work on other people's Land Raiders I was completely taken by the mystery of "how the heck did they do that?". :p Yeah, I'm in no way an engineer-y type so I'm very impressionable with how you make mechanical stuff work. Anyway, that Land Raider kit is pretty well done. There ya go, here's my quick little review of the new Games Workshop Land Raider kit, only a bit over 10 years late. (Just for completeness' sake: The casting quality is okay. Duh.)


As you surely expected on this one, there's quite a lot of stowage and additional stuff on that Land Raider. My idea was that this one has to work as a mobile command centre as well as an assault tank if necessary so they can set up hard points or whatever you call it quickly to react to a new attack somewhere. Hence the vox, some extra promethium/gas/water (but I guess Space Marines are okay with drinking either) and stowage in general.

Very nice update Siggy. Nice to have the background of the units so we can know where you're thinking is at when you paint them. As always, colorful, dynamic and gritty... perfect for 40k!

probably because they are so freakin' perfect for that force! I love your methods on them and how it all comes together so pleasing to the eye, well done as usual Siggy! can't wait to see more on that raider ;-)

@Dysartes: That was pretty much "real-time". I have to say that things went pretty fast with basecoating, highlighting and damaging up that blue. But don't fret, I'm slowing down already.
