Rawson - Thanks!
Are you going for ultra-glossy with your marines? I looks like they could use a matte-finish coat, imho.
Agreed - I'm not sure what's happened, it's the same matt spray I used on all the others - they are glossy in the pics aren't they?
What head did you use for your termie captain? I can't place it.
It's one of the Assault Marine Heads - my local bitz place names it Space Marine Head G

Yggdrasil - Thanks!
I am noticing a lot of mould lines I missed, since I threw these together fast (for a game) then forgot to clean them up a few weeks later when I started painting.
O well... done now - and I did manage the eyes this time!
Also, I free-handed the hazard stripes!
Now to finish the Legion of Thorns...

DijnsK - Thanks - and yes, sliding door... well spotted! I really wish GW would bring out Blood Raven decals though... probably should order them from FW when I get settled in the States... or even better would be some etched brass emblems to really detail those empty shoulder pads...

DijnsK - Thanks. PIPS - spray coat of Adeptus grey/Regal Blue mix, covered with hairspray and salt, then Mechrite red coat, then a zenithal Blood Red coat... a bit yellow in the pics because of crappy lighting. More pics once I remove the salt to reveal the first round of chipping.

And so we're back! Still setting up house in San Diego so no pics yet, just dropping a quick re-start post of this project, and the title is...
PURITY SEAL SPRAY DISASTER!
Yep, GW Purity spray over the red coat after removing the salt has turned the whole model exterior a dusty white - which is good if you're going for a chalky desert look but absolutely gak when you're after that deep Blood Ravens red I've previously achieved!
So, its back to black and start again, and the Purity Seal into the trash, and back to the cheap satin spray varnish I was using in Australia.
Pics soon!

I actually love that conversion, it's like the little door set into a massive one that you'd see on a medieval castle. You can totally imagine little servitors scurrying in through there for maintenance and stuff.
You're building a really cool army here. I love the chainblades on the assault terminators and your basing is great. Looking forward to seeing Captain Drive-me-closer-so-I-can-hit-them-with-my-sword get painted.

prototype - Mmmm... got me thinking now... Driver dude PIPs And Predator Captain Kill-Crazy's bitz arrived, so here he is complete: In case anyone is interested - Construction notes: - Start with AOBR SM Sergeant model, remove head (and consequently the entire armour collar) - Add spare SM head looking left - Replace armour collar with one cut off spare SM back bit - Remove legs but keep tabard - this was much harder than it sounds! - Use some pouches (can't be seen in this pic) to hide the join between the SM upper and the standard SM turret gunner leg bit - Remove left hand, replace with left hand and (slightly pimped) chain-sword hand and weapon from Assault Marine arm - Pimp up the storm-bolter from the Predator kit with a skull - SkullSight ( TM)! - and some bits - Get the standard turret gunner right arm to fit and create a new firing handle Moving right along with this now (I hope) as I have far too many projects on the go - time to finish this one at least!

Subject: Lamby's Loyalists: Blood Ravens and + IRONCLAD +
|
 |
Sword-Bearing Inquisitorial Crusader
|
"How's your faith now, Templar?" "Why don't you come a little closer... and I'll show you?" (Thomas Marshall, Templar Knight, Redeemed) Inspired by Ridley Scott's awesome Crusade movie "Kingdom of Heaven", Grimladus and his Templars from the Aaron Dembski-Bowden exceptional novel "Helsreach", and most recently by the warrior Templar Thomas Marshall from the fantastically brutal film "Ironclad", here begins anew my true scale Marines project: Some notes of no interest: (1): As it has been more than a year since I updated the original blog, I have tacked this into the old Blood Raven's thread and intend now to keep my Loyalist projects (whatever they may be) in this blog - so BOREDOM WARNING: you may have seen some of the next few pics/posts before, but I will have new stuff soon... promise... (2): I make no claim to originality in the true scaling, the methods seen hence forth are copied from and and inspired by the following: - Migsula's three forms of Alpharius and his =I=munda BLOGs, specifically his modelling but his painting is also truly awesome! - Synapse's amazing true-scale pre-Heresy World Eaters, and - Apologist's just as equally wow pre-Heresy Ultramarine Praetors of Calth (3): - Seriously, who actually knew that Middle Age sappers set fire to pigs in tunnels to bring down castle walls??? - (Watch Ironclad!) And so, the true-scale sculpting/kit-bashing story as it stands (this work was done approx 2 years ago): Group shot: T1 and T2: T1 close up: T1 - back armour complete - moving onto arms and weapons next! T2 close up: - he had foot surgery to realign the front boot T2 - GS on torso - quicker job than T1, thanks to clay shapers and practice! Some leg surgery: And some new torso work - the Assault Marine chest/back construct on the right is my 'old' method, which requires a lot of GS sculpting to get a smooth, even curvature. The 'new' method utilises Terminator chest fronts to try and keep chest details like the Aquila, and (hopefully) requires less GS sculpting.
