Do you mean cotton thread? sounds really difficult. i would probably require a microscope to be able to do that much detail on my stuff!

More like cotton balls, we pull little bits off, spread the fibers out with toothpicks and attach and stretch out the fibers with PVA glue. I definitely need to write that guide, we get a flood of questions on it!

Please do! The cobwebs would be perfect for my Garden of Morr. Are they sturdy, though?

Super awesome tread! So many gorgeous photo's of scenery. Very inspiring and frustrating at the same time!

Life is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless and perfunctory gift nobody ever asked for. Unreturnable because all you get back is another box of chocolates. So you're stuck with this undefinable whipped mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down because there's nothing left to drink. Sure once in a while there's a peanut butter cup or a English toffee, but they're gone too fast and the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits of hardened jelly and teeth shattering nuts. If you're desperate enough to eat those all you've got left is a. An empty box, filled with useless brown paper wrappers.

I spend a lot of time looking at the great works of other terrain makers out there, there is a wealth of inspiration to receive as well as to give

Hey terraformer, you've gotten me really inspired with your stuff and blog tutorials. I'm wondering how you make the stone blocks, like what that tower is made out of? Are they cut from insulation foam and textured somehow, or is it all one piece?

Thanks and keep amazing us!

In the old days I would make some stone blocks out of blue-foam, but I didn't like the lack of durability, so I started sculpting and casting resin cobblestones, pavers, sheets of wall texture, etc. The tower for example is made from these pieces (shameless plug) that have been heated and wrapped around a tube.

One of these days I'm going to get out to Hobby Lobby and try to find the bark that you used for rocks in your hill tutorial... The other more conveniently located craft stores don't have it but I really want it.

Can't you just get it at home depot?

Lowe's, Home Depot, or various garden centers and nurseries have it, as well as landscape suppliers. I found a large stock in the garden center of wal-mart recently, just make sure it's the "large" variety if you plan on making sizable terrain.

I'll check the other home stores, but when I tried Menards their stuff didn't look very good.

Whilst pounding away at our big fall projects, we still make some time to do some sculpting, scratch building and stretching our creative muscles. i swear every time i upload pictures of blood pieces it looks just slightly too light in the pics. Just imagine it darker.

Brilliant!! Although i cant help but feel there would be some disturbance of the blood around the bloodfall and the monster

The head statue pouring blood from his mouth is great however the monster rising from the blood pool does seem rather clean and no disruption of blood around him is a bit odd.

But it does look cool still and nice paint job

Okay, the head in the rocks spitting blood from its mouth genuinely creeped me out. Very nice.

i agree about the blood disturbance, I'm still in process of experimenting with ways to make realistic ripples, waves and other liquid motion effects that wont break the bank in terms of being even more time intensive, and still have the realistic appearance I see in my head, so for now still pools look better than something substandard :p

I understand what you are saying but it was only an observation as you seem to enjoy lifting the bar on terrain building, also I felt (as good as the paint job is ) the mouth and tentacles would have a degree of blood stuck to them after raising from the blood pool.

I dont want to seem like I am trying to rip it to pieces as I think it does look great, I just felt I needed to be honest.

It is a great piece and I cant wait to see more like this.

I love the observations! We always want to improve, and getting the opinions of others is how we get there. It's one reason why we put out stuff on auction and such.

My original plan for the blood was to sculpt the splashes and ripples, then cast the sculpted parts in the same colored, slightly translucent resin, but like I said... budget-wise that would be overkill for pieces that I want to keep attainable.

Yes, I can see that raising the cost considerably but the idea is an interesting one, although you would have your work cut out with that.
Do you mind sharing the recipe of how you did the blood pool
