Ian, did those $*@)$*) white stencil decals ever make it to you? I sent them out, first week of December.

My god, I can't believe I didn't get back to you on this - so sorry. Yes, they reached me while I was in Scotland, I think - you sent them out in the first week of June, surely? I was remaking all the vehicles then, and that was the only way I ever had enough white stencils to do them all!

Thanks so much for that!

Beautiful. I have to say that the Bikers are my favorites though.

I very much like that you've worked the army into six ed canon by going down the route of using allies to represents units that fit the army theme but can't quite squeeze into your main codex.

I'm considering doing the same with a Squat themed army, but I can't make up my mind whether to use them as actual Squats (Imperial Guard for the most part, with SM allies to represent Exo-suits/Terminators and bikers) or to go with the newer canon version of Squats as Tau allies and use the Tau codex with SM allies. Either way I plan on having a Living Ancestor (either a Sanctioned Psyker or a Tau Etheral) as my Warlord.

(By the way, if anyone has any thoughts on the subject, please PM them to me, I'm not trying to hi-jack Ian's awesome Arbitor thread).

Yeah, the 6ed thing killed my Codex project, but it does mean that, using a combination of SoB, IG, GK and SM, I can field everything!

I had a similar idea for Squats, but thought of maybe taking them as Krieg with Dark Angel allies - using Kreig Engineers as the main troops, which allows Mole Mortars and Termites (Hades Drills), and then taking Belial, Deathwing (as Troops) and Ravenwing as the Warlord, Exo-squats and Bikers.

The demiurg are kinda hinted at, but haven't been mentioned for years, and since they have no fluff other than 'ion technology' I can see it being quite difficult to fit in a Tau army - no bikes, no tunnellers, no mole mortars, etc..

UPDATE

My Chapterhouse chimera kits have arrived, but before starting on those, I wanted to get a smaller project out of the way. I ordered one of the Victoria miniatures Penal conversion kits over Xmas to use as a Penal Legionnaire squad. Here's a dry fit of one, using Catachan arms and old Warzone legs.

They weren't quite blending, so I cut down the arms and Warzone waist and did some greenstuffing. Here's the Legionnaires

And here's the Custodian, converted from one of the FW Enforcer miniatures...

Nice work with the warzone legs on those Penal Legion bodies. They look the part. I also like the weapon swap on the FE Enforcer, but I honestly reckon you'd have been better sticking with the original bald head and either putting the helmet on the ground or attaching it to his belt.

I think putting a cape or cloak on the custodian might help to bulk out the body a bit and make him a little less top heavy. Awesome idea though. Also I must say that this is the first time I've ever seen penal legionaries that look like how I imagine them. Excellent work. They really capture the convict persona.

Thanks guys - making progress with the Legionnaires as we speak!

SO. What shall I do with my Landspeeders? I'm ordering foam for the Arbites cases, and I need to decide what to do with the Landspeeders.

I currently have two of these, new model Landspeeders

I also have three of these, original 1ed Landspeeders, with these guard guys and also optional SM riders.

Which ones would work better in the Arbites army? I can see the argument for the OOP ones, since they look more 'human' in scale. The problem is, everything else in the army is very current - new pattern Rhinos, etc - and I think they might look out of place. Maybe I could do some conversion to bulk/block them out?

The newer Land Speeders would certainly look more in-place, and have the advantage of possibly being converted to Storms? Or Tempests, for air support??

Bear in mind, I also have two other Landspeeder-capable armies planned - a heresy-era Iron Hands force, which could certainly use the OOP speeders (though I never really think of Landspeeders as very Iron-Handsesque). I also have a White Scars army which will get redone at some point, and should have some speeders - they use old-pattern Rhinos, so either sort of Landspeeder would work in that army.

yeah,
How does the OOP guard pilots look sitting in the new style landspeeders..
I think you should buy actual landspeeder storms for the arbites, that will look great and seems kinda fluffy for a rapid response team.

Ah, if I use new style Land Speeders I'll probably enclose in the cockpits - since they're not open topped and the Arbites don't have power armour. I could get LS Storms, but I reckon I could convert them from the current plastic ones. The annoying thing about Storms is that they aren't Dedicated Transports - they are a single FA choice per Storm, which means that if I took a SM allied contingent, I could only ever have one of them, and not at the same time as bikes. So, maybe a squadron of regular speeders is better, or convert them to Tempests and get me some air cover?

Also, I've just used a load of eBay sales to fund the next purchase - one more Exorcist and three Sabre Defence Platforms on their way from Forge World, woo!

I think the the newer landspeeders make more sense and work better in your army.

I could see the older landspeeders being used with some conversion work. For example, they might look fitting as a more modern police theme if you put a bubble shaped transparent canopy/cockpit over the front. That'd give it the look of older helicopters while solving the "not power armor" and "open topped" concern.

I would say go for the new versions with a few modifications to the characteristic landspeeder components. I think enclosing the cockpit is a good idea. Also the bumper is quite distinctive, so I would suggest a change there also.

Keep up the great work!

Some are heavy support. They can take a speeder in a squad of six bikers, which means I could include both in an allied force. But they don't have Scout bikes, so suddenly my Arbites bikers become SUPERHUMANS.

That's a shame as it would have worked quite well other wise...
You could mix codex space marine with codex dark angels? for a double marine army using the scout elements?
Assuming your main codex is space marine so you can have 3 squads of bikers in fast attack plus 3 exorcist/whirlwinds in heavy support.
While the dark angels bring Land speeders darkshroud or land speeder squadron and Land speeder Vengeance

The Vengeance is a solid heavy.
While the new darkshroud could be very Arbitey as a sort of smoke tear gas riot speeder.
Giving your guys stealth and combat resolution help.

If you take Sammael in his LS as the HQ you get around having another WS4 BS4 S4 T4 guy on the table.
14/14/10 4++ armed with TL AS and TL HB hitting on 2's is pretty good... not sure if it's 200pts good though?

So you only have the superhuman SM HQ guy .. and he's clearly Arbitor Dredd or RoboJudge, which is fine.

Panic...

yeah, I'm not sure if I'm up for converting that much of an army JUSt so that I can put two Land Speeders to use - I'd lose out on practically everything that makes the rest of the Arbites fluffy (or have to use dodgy counts-as). I think using S4 T4 Scouts is probably best as an Allied contingent!

PENAL LEGION!

So, the Arbites Labour Squad is ready, I didn't get around to doing any more work on the leader, but I think the paintjob makes his headdress look less massive - besides, it's still modest compared to the two Judges!

Thanks guys - here's the next installment of the IG section - an Arbites Siege Tank (converted Thunderer).

It's an old Leman Russ as the base, with a Vindicator cannon, and Arbites/SM additions. I'll be filling in the circle on top and putting on a SMcupola, so that it will fit all my other cupola-mounted weapons. With a heavy bolter on the cupola, it could also count as a Demolisher if need be.
