A small update today as the Mantis Warrior Squad leader is currently drying.
So my very poor attempt at a piece of scenery today
Its my first piece I've ever done to be honest, I've got a few more bigger pieces to paint but wanted to start off as small as possible.
The marble effect is my attempt to copy NF09's technique
I've been doing a lot of undercoating this weekend so my painting area is full up of lots of random minis awaiting paint, the Exorcists will be the next main project but I think its going to end up with random minis for the rest of the year while my finances try and sort them selves out.
I did try selling some minis on ebay but that was an epic fail I think people are more interested in having commission work done on army's/minis they want rather than buying already painted armies. I did think about doing some commission work to earn some money for models but not sure if (a) I'm good enough and (b) I could handle being told what colours to paint
That's all from me this week, the MW will follow next weekend.

I like the marble effect, but I would do It a bit more visible, maybe You can get larger stripes of the color You're using and get a darker one to do a line in the middle
Just my two cents.

For those of you that aren't watching Git's blog, which wont be many here's my entry to the Mantis Warrior competition.
I wont have time for the full squad as planed as I've entered the Infinity competition as well, I also have a tournament next Saturday with the Thousand Sons, looks like I'll be busy the rest of the month.
There wont be many updates for the rest of the month though as the Infinity comp is closed walls so you cant show your work until the closing date. It's going to be fun though I'm sure.

My opinion on the terrain- Marble effect came out pretty well, but the delineation between the walls and floor / ground is too blurred, there should be at least a couple points where there is a clear connection. I'd also offer that you consider smaller blocks. I can see where the joints are for the slabs but they are huge. Making more obvious blocks will sell the marble idea more and also help force the scale perspective as well.
The window pane is really nice, I like the shape and the detail.
The corner looks familiar. Is that from a PlayMobil set?

Nothing much to report this week.
I went to a tournament on Saturday and got tabled by a Tau player in my first game who then went on to win the tournament. Second game I tabled a Necron player and in my third game I was up against another Tau army and lost but not so badly this time
I've found out the next tournament is Kill Teams at 200 points as its such a small force I'm taking down ideas. So if you have any for any codex let me know here or in my post in the army list section http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/533919.page
Kill Teams is
0-1 Elite
0-2 Troops
0-1 Fast Attack (no flyers)

Lets see... If I was doing Kill Team I would be using Chaos Marines and my list would be:
1 Helbrute: Multimelta and Power Fist 100pts
Chaos Space Marine Squad: 5 Marines,1 Aspiring Champion, Chainaxe 96pts
200pts is really small so it's difficult to make anything really decent. At least with the Helbrute you get some armour and anti-armour capabilities. I did consider Possessed but they are rather expensive as is a decent sized squad of Terminators.
In regards to your tournament it sucks that the Tau tabled people quite alot.
Hope my small list has given you some ideas

I would also use the CSM codex If you want to win use something like this: Fast Attack 5 Nurgle Spawn...180pts or Fast Attack 6 Nurgle Bikers 2 melta guns Champion w/ Gift of Mutation Veterans of the Long War (there are spare points for it ) ...192pts

One of my "friends" pulled the 5x Nurgle Spawn list once in Killteams. He is no longer my friend.
If you want to win, or if you want to be a douche (or both!) take the spawn.
The bikers are also kinda douchey, but less so than the Spawn. Cool modeling opportunities though.

or: Troops: 25 Nurgle Cultists 22 Autoguns 2 Heavy Stubbers Champion w/ Shotgun ...194pts Of course, what I'd ACTUALLY do is something like ths: Troops: 15 Khorne Cultists Flamer Champion w/ Shotgun ...100pts 15 Khorne Cultists Flamer Champion w/ Shotgun ...100pts Lot's of fun, not really a dick move (still lots of models, though...) and is all about dying in combat! Thanks for the above as I'm more into the hobby for the modelling painting side I might actually go with the spawn or CSM biker unit as I can do a lot with these and make them look really nice.
You never know I might actually stand a chance to do well for a change
-----------------------------
Latest update on my old painting, well I did say I had entered the Infinity competition but time is against me so instead I just painted up the mini as below. I wanted to go as close to the original artwork as possible to push myself on the painting side.
Mine is a bit dark as we seem to have a lack of sun this summer in the UK, the colours are a bit brighter in real life.
Tohaa - Gao-Rael Unit, click on the image for a bigger version
Infinity pic
Next up on my painting table is a test mini for Dropzone Commander.
Oh nearly forgot I've been invited to a paint and sell day at the start of July as my painting studio so that's going to be interesting for sure. Nearly as interesting as having to walk 6 miles to get there due to lack of public transport on Sundays

really, the only way to lose with nurgle spawn or bikers is if the dice hate you or you sit them at the back of the board.
Very nice! The mini does look quite close to the original scheme!
And congrats! That will take you more than hour (almost 2), just so you realise (unless you run the entire way, of course).

I could run but I wouldn't fancy the state of the minis afterwards
I should be able to do it in an hour and a half as I had to walk it a few times last week when my car broke down, its a killer though

I'm ok for cultists thanks Miss Dee.
_______________
Something new today to help improve my painting skills or make my eye sight even worse and it comes in orange as well which is a lot brighter than anything I've painted before.
So the model of the day is...... a Shaltari Warspear from the Dropzone Commander game, yeah you may have guessed that from the subject but never mind
Its quite a small mini as the game is based in 6mm, quite fun to paint and there are quite a few other models I like for the Shaltari so you may see some more in the future if this one sells.
Also there is a half painted Mantis Warrior on my painting table as well which I'm hoping to have finished tomorrow for all you MW fans.
I've still not decided on my Kill Team yet I'm currently going towards Dark Angels (Mantis Warriors) a unit of Black Knights and a Scout squad. I expect I'll change my mind again by tomorrow, we shall see

Cheers Graven. Don't the X-wing models come pre-painted I've been following MajorToms blog as well I like the idea of doing up a Slave1 so it looks a lot more weathered like Bobba Fetts version.

It's update time
Well Git's I promised you a Mantis Warrior Monday but I found that I hadn't under coated his boltgun, bit of a fail there but I'll make it upto you today
So today I cracked on with some painting before it got to sub tropical temperatures in the room where I paint. Not only did I finish the above MW's boltgun I also finished the other two members of the squad so the combat squad is now complete.
I'm not sure when I'll be painting any more MW's, but I will at some point as I want to build them up into a playable force.
Skalk I have that size comparison shot for you of the Dropzone Commander ship.
I also took some new pictures of the Infinity mini.
Looks a lot better than the last set of pics I think.
Next up from me is my kill team which I've decided to base on my Skyrar's Dark Wolves.
Iron Priest
Servitor with Heavy Bolter - Fleshbane
Servitor with Heavy Plasma - Feel No Pain
Servitor with either Heavy Plasma or Multi Melta
5 Grey Hunters with flamer
1 skill left over to allocate
I feel this is this most versatile team I could come up with, it has a bit of everything so should be fun.
Tomorrow was supposed to see my selling lots of stuff at my local flags but I've pulled out as I dont fancy walking that far in the heat we have at the moment.
Well thats the biggest update from me in ages
My painting tables covered in Eldar models at the moment so you might see a test mini soon, well maybe this week as I'm off
I also need to sort out the Exorcists as I haven't done a new army this year, feel like I'm slacking a bit
