Plague marines are excellent. I've always had a soft squishy spot for nurgle, just never found a way to pull off the colors. The obliterator are really characterful as well.

What blues are you using on the panO guys?

Cheers Theo.

The blues are as follows this is only the experimental stage though.

Vallejo Light Sea Blue
Vallejo Light Green Blue thin washes over most of the above but leaving some in the center
Vallejo Pale Grey Blue highlights
Vallejo Transparent Blue watered down as a wash

----------------------------

Ok well I made it back from my tournament but totally fed up with the whole tournament scene

I had a rather rubbish day to be honest and its totally put me off ever going again.

First game was against a Space Wolf Thuderwolf list with drop podding Skitarii, I was tabled I killed the skitarii and the drop pod they were in and that was it. The player with this list came in third place.

Second game sees me at the bottom table playing a cent/Knight heavy list . I've never faced cents before and they ripped my oblits to pieces. I just ignored them and went for tactical objectives and managed to win that way. On the plus Huron and his Plague Marine unit managed to kill an entire unit of 6 close combat cents, his power axe was working on over time.

Third game see me against A Dark Elder list with lots of flyers, I had enough issues with what was on the table before the flyers turned up. I couldn't take down any of the transports and just lied down and died over a number of turns. There really was nothing I could do.

And that was my day I don't know what place I ended up in but it wasn't last as that went to the person I played in the second game.

I don't really know what went wrong maybe I should have taken a Heldrake, I know for sure that every game I was well out numbered, it could be due to the CSM codex being out of date or I'm just bad at list building or playing, probably both

Here's some pics I took of armies.

My favorite painted army

The Dark Eldar army I faced, very cool conversions all the models are Skaven

Below is the army that won best painted and best objectives

My boys in green

I didn't feel like painting today as after the tournament I went home and then had to work Saturday night so was a bit tired today.

I did after much hard work get this far with the first Sicaran

My glues nearly run out so have ordered some more, its actually quite a heavy chunk of resin crack.

Its possible I could be working next weekend so there may not be an update if there is it will either be more work on the Sicaran's or painting PanO guys for Infinity.

Tournaments can be really disillusioning. Once upon a time I went to them. Then only doubles events with a good mate. Now I just don't have the list building in me. I prefer to put my efforts into models and themes I really enjoy and unfortunately they often are not particularly competitive at the high end of play. But I have gotten used to be tabled by the competitive members of my regular group. They don't seem to mind too much.

Just take heart in the fact you have an awesome converted and painted army that is the envy of many.

Unfortunately this is the way things are going for 40k. One HAS to have certain builds to compete and you have to expect folks to be taking the most competitive builds.

Add to the fact that some armies have built in 'cheese'... a lot of special rules and abilities one can't counter them all in the way one builds their list. Too bad cause you sound like you didn't have that much fun either.

Cheers Archer I did get lots of comments about my Oblits. Unfortunately for me its the only chance I get to play the game against real people. I couldn't even guess how far away the nearest flags is, in fact I don't even know of one, GW rules supreme in the UK.

Na it was really bad, worst time I've had at a tournament, it gets worse each time I go.

The first and third game I didn't get to do anything really all game and the one which I won was wrong for all the wrong reasons. He had a Dark Angel army playing codex Space Marine, he didn't know the rules for his own army. So I ended up helping him most of the game, giving hints to roll for his flyer each turn and pick tactical objectives and letting him re-do things he forgot in the phase before like moving units etc. He was a nice guy so I didn't mind helping him, in fact while writing this I've changed my mind and would rather have played all three games against him.

Cheers Graven that really does mean a lot to me

The next tournament is in October I've already decided not to go, what do you think, should I try again and if so what's the best list out there or should I take my Sisters or just not waste my time and money.

The top four were

Eldar
Eldar/Dark Eldar
Spacewolves/Skitarii
Tau/Eldar

update: Looks like there is an event in September as well 1800 all the boys toys allowed.

If it is unfortunately your only avenue of gaming I think personally I would go. But I would stick with my guns and aim for theme and appearance over tabletop function.

Do these tournaments have other awards like Sportsmanship, conversions, painting etc? Or smaller single model painting comps? Maybe target those and you can then treat the games as a chance to throw some dice?

We'll I'd go or look for a tourney that has more depth ( like what Archer is suggesting ). I personally like Doubles tourneys as they are more social. Alternatively you might have to 'Up' your game and learn to play more competitively. You don't have to be TFG, but there are folks here on Dakka that can help with list building, Strategies and Tactics.

Lastly Tourneys are a good place to meet folks. Network with the folks and you might learn that someone is in your area that plays and you can expand your opportunities to play.

Thanks for all the votes of support still not sure what to do but as long as I can paint I'm not worried at this moment in time.

So this weekend I didn't get any painting done

Kinda felt very uninspired so did some assembly instead of various things I have kicking around.

I finished the first Sicaran for my Mantis Warriors, the only thing I really had issues with was where I had to cut the mold join bits off the back of the sides, on one side I went into the hull by mistake, I have fixed it by slapping an imperial eagle on it though

The random minis are from left to right, the limited edition Brute Thrall - Femme Fatale Variant, AoW Necromancer for my KoW undead army, re based my Vampire lady on a round base as well, she needs to be touched up as well, I could do her skin a lot better now. There's also a treeman who's arm fell off just before the pic but its back on now.

I was going to prime them today but when I went outside it started raining , that's British weather for you!

I've also started on Elspeth's dragon but its turning out to be a pain in the behind as my glue is having issues setting on it, which is odd as it was fine on the Sicaran, I did bathe her and the dragon as well.

I'm back painting minis now although it is a bit too hot really, had problems with the paint drying on my brush today

So what have I been painting then?

Well Infinity minis is the answer, I finished my PanO Fusiliers today. Still got a few more PanO guys to do then I can try playing through the starter missions.

I've also been working on Elspeth's dragon over the last week glueing a bit on every now and then when I get a moment, This is one big model

In other new I'm debating doing all my fantasy minis on round bases so they can be used with Age of Sigmar and then just line them up if I play KoW. I was intending KoW to be my main fantasy game but if I do it this way they can be used for both. They wont fit in movement trays as I'll be using 32mm bases. It does mean I need to pull apart my Wardancers to get them off the movement tray, they arent painted so I cant really damage them.

That is a huge Dragon, huge.

I really do love infinity models and one day I will put aside some time and some funds to paint some. One day.

I have only glanced over the Age of Sigmar rules, but are the base shapes going to have that big an effect? I am not sure I am very keen to try and rebase the 3 Fantasy armies I already have.

There's loads of nice Infinity models, I have shiny new model syndrome. There's so many nice models across loads of games its hard affording them all and then you have to paint them....

I spent a lot of time yesterday watching some batreps of AOS and I must say it looks like the most boring game I've ever seen. So I pre-ordered the new Kings of War rulebook and will be going forward with that and Darklands for my fantasy fix. And no the bases don't count for anything with AOS all ranges are from the model (any part) and not the base, you can even stand models on your other models bases if it gets you in range of combat!!!

inmygravenimage wrote:I don't especially like infinity models but I do love your take on them BTW, remind folk to like your Facebook page!

Cheers Graven I tend to carry my grim dark painting to any game system I like the look of

And yeah I have a Facebook page (in my sig, I think Graven feels lonely ) for those that may have missed it, it was for commissions but I don't do them any more so is just my painting and writing stuff. Please like away and I will post pictures of scantly clad models (miniatures) when its most inconvenient for you

The more likes I get the more updates my FB page will get, I need to be inspired on that front.

Yeah its really big, I have another dragon waiting to be assembled I'm not sure how big that one is going to be.

Todays update is more PanO minis for Infinity.

Joan's picture isn't great as I ran out of natural light so may take her pic again. She was for a painting comp where you had to use rainbow colours somewhere on the mini, so I went for the sword. There's only one other entry so far but it beats mine hands down

Akalis Sikh Commando

Orc Trooper

Joan of Arc

I'm getting better at skin tones, its taking ages but I think its starting to show.

All pics are votable, would be nice to get some votes on my Infinity minis

There's two more Infinity minis left which I'm half way through, I've ordered the new USAriadna starter so there will be more Infinity minis to paint later.

It's quite exciting at the moment with the new Kings of war rules coming out in August as well. There's the Darklands Metal Age Kickstarter that will be ending soon that has some fantastic minis going into metal production. I've also seen that Malifaux has a starter coming out in September which is not bad if you haven't started picking up the cards etc that are required.

Expect a lot of updates over the next two weeks, I finally got work to let me have some proper time off

I'm hoping to try out Malifaux as I now have two crews painted, just started reading the rules. I also want to play through the Infinity O:I starter missions when I get the last two dudes painted, I'll make sure I get pics of all the action.

Then I'll be working on some Wood Elves for KoW

The Sicaran will hopefully start seeing paint next week along with the Wood Elves, I tend to do large vehicles late at night to get all the base coats down as it doesn't matter so much being tired and I only have a small brush.... The dragon isn't in line to be painted anytime soon. I just wanted to make sure I got one in case FW stopped making it. I still need to do the gs and undercoat it then it would normally go in the to be painted box for winter, when I cant prime but its too big

Thanks Para. Yeah making good use of the basing rules for KoW, I 'd rather have something more scenic than a mass of models, makes it more fun.

----------------

So I'm back with another update I lost all my enthusiasm over the weekend but I'm back now.

First up we have an Infinity batrep which can be found here http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/657097.page

I really like this game from playing the first mission in Operation Icestorm, can't wait to play the next one.

Next we have the finished Wardancer unit for KoW, really happy with these guys and girls. Wood Elves are my current painting project so expect a few more of these guys over the next month. I'm building them up to 450ish points for my first game vs undead which will be my next project

I'm hoping to have them both ready for October time to have a play through using the new book.

That last shot you can see where I added pigment to look like there are burrowing creatures living under the rocks, I left some small holes

Lastly we have the completed Parawn next to Elspeth and her dragon, both need gs work which I will hopefully get done this week.

I prefer Elspeth's dragon for a number of reasons, I feel the general sculpt is better. Her dragon was so much easier to put together as well, Parawn was such a pain in the behind and I had lots of broken bits and also the wrong neck so it has a whole in the top

It will look fine once gs'd I hope.

Keeping with our Wood Elf theme today we have an Elven Prince(ss) and a Elven Mage to add some characters to my army.

I'm going with round bases for my KoW characters to help make them stand out.

Elven Princess

Elven Mage

I'm really into these metal sculpts with all the little leaves on, I'm keeping an eye on ebay for some Guard and I think its Wild Riders but they don't come up very often. I lost a bid on my other Marauder Treeman the other day which was a shame I'm trying to get one of each pose and I have a clever idea for the middle treeman.

Todays project is to GS the dragons and a few other models and start building some archers for the Wood Elves.

I might even get another game of Infinity in as well.
