Flamers are ok vs armies with low toughness like guard and eldar really depends if your opponents use these type of armies. If you play tournaments then id say no stick with plasma and melta. You would still have your sentenals with flamers.

Against marines, flamers and lasguns are as effective as tapioca pudding.

Lol thanks guys! :-) tapioca pudding you say! hmmm interesting launcher conversion right here! but yes, I would say my opponents are going to be mainly BA marines and possibly Eldar and Nids occasionally, my best mate is the BA player and pretty much is the only guy i've had a game with, so chances are high it'll mainly be him lol!

Tournaments.... HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! *snort* I don't even know the rules yet! :-)

Whoops, I meant to ask GiraffeX about flamers on sentinels? I don't really know what to have them armed with or built as? any hints my nerdy brothers from different mothers?

I disagree, flamers can be quite effective vs. marines when they're packed in together due to volume of hits. I wouldn't rely too heavily on them, but a couple salted around an army can be very effective.

Do you think 3 sentinels w/flamers would or could be useful against BA? they have small squads and I know Ad has them fairly close packed! other than the flamers i like the idea of las-cannons and I know nothing about autocannons and what they're good for (weird considering i built a dreadnought with 2 twin linked!)

I prefer flamers I mixed squads where their coverage can be a real asset in a close fight. I wouldn't however, recommend it as the primary armament on a vehicle. It's just too little of a margin of error. Las cannons are nice. Auto cannons aren't all that useful vs. MEQ.

I've had success with flamer equipped scout sentinals outflanking since they are nice and cheap for what they do. Armored sentinels with las arent a bad option either but those I would just leave in the backfield in some cover or something, and if your going to do that there's other more effective uses for fast attack points I reckon.

i´m in for the tapioca...

although... if you have flamers... creme brule` is also an option...

get the marines to sit down... have them feast upon the creme ... and then slay them all while they try to digest...end of marine situation....

I think of it this way, why would you want to get a guard squad close enough to be in flamer range, its just asking for it.

With marines in say a tactical squad its not so bad as they have armour and a better all round ability to receive a charge.

In regards to the Sentinels I dont think you will be using them as they take up a fast attack choice which is where you Valks and Vendettas sit. Saying that (as I know you have the models) I'd do as some one suggested and magnetise the weapons, Heavy Flamer, Autocannon and Lascannon's are the best choices.

Thanks GFX! I probably will just use lascannons on them if i do actually use them, as I want to run them next to my troops when i move so they can dart in front and become a bigger target or shield them from the side by being in the way? and really lascannon is the only thing that's powerful enough to cause any kind of damage to marines or tanks! :-) I just like the look and idea of flamers! you know, rule of cool!

Getting ready for my first game in forever, next friday is go time! we decided on 1,500 points per side, since it's just for fun and trying to learn the rules my list is more about getting a chance to use models I've painted but have never seen action so this is what i'll be using in a game of annhilation against Eldar:

HQ: Librarian Tomas. Termie armour & power weapon 125

Troops: Tac squad with Missile Launcher & sarge with power fist 195
Tac squad with Missile Launcher & sarge with power fist 195
10 man Assault squad, sarge with power axe & combat shield 210

Elite: Terminator Assault squad (deepstriking) 200

Fast Attack: Land Speeder squad, one Typhoon, one Tornado, one normal 230
Baal Predator, flamer sponsons 140

Heavy Support: 5 man Dev squad with 4x Plasma

Transport: 2x Drop pods 70

in total it comes in at 1,515 points which is fine with us as Daves Eldar ran slightly over too I think i've enough to confuse and squash his guys hopefully

You Flesh EATERS list looks good but one thing your missing is the special weapon from each of your tactical squads, if your running power fists with the sergeants a Meltagun to go in that squad when you combat squad them will make them a nice anti vehicle squad.

Oh and lots of pics of your boys in action is a must

Amazing. I like how you have got some battle damage wear and tear. I have been thinking about this with my project... not sure if a shiny new army with well kept armour is maybe less impressive than this rusted from war approach. Definitely something for me to think about!

You plan on having the libby die again?

Ditch the two fists and free up 50 points.
Give the baal HB sponsons so they can earn back points from the very start and add some bodies to that dev squad.

Yes GFX my Flesh EATERS! lol will have numerous pics taken throughout the game! especially as I have my new fangled digital SLR (that I really don't know much about yet) but it should be an enjoyable battle if somewhat staggered by the stopping and starting while we read the rules! and I'll see if i have a couple of Melta marines to recruit? so i should combat squad them as they come out of the drop pods?

Pyriel!! you're ALIVE!! I though you'd faded into a sculpting induced coma or something lately? and yes you'd be right I'm guessing that Librarian Tomas is going to die a horrible sticky death due to lack of self preservation, but I promise you that you'll die in the name of the Emperor and with as much humor as i can muster sadly my flamer sponsons are glued that's what you get for dropping it! but i'll just stick the foot down on the 'Go' pedal and get close enough to cook me some space elves!

actually i'm kind of suprised the list was thought of as mostly decent I'm really using all the cool toys i've painted last year

POSSSSSSSSSTMAAAAAAAAAN!!! got me some packages today! Anvil Industry parts! Forge World parts! Combat Company! Paint

Here's the Anvil banana clip and reflex sight on my carbine 'las' guns!

and the box clip on the sarge's pistol! makes it feel a bit more hardcore!

I shook the stuffing from my can of Desert Yellow and finally got some primer on a squad happy with the colour? I like it! not sure if i want to make them desert force or add more earthy tones and run them as dry sclerophyll rainforest? I'll paint one up with plain fatigues then we can talk camo or not o.k? I'm thinking no after looking at the colour? of course feedback is required

looking forward to seeing what you think! and i'm also looking forward to painting tomorrow!

The desert yellow looks pretty good. A quick wash and they'll be looking great. I bought the leather brown spary and hoping to highlight up from there. But I've only got about twelve haqqislam to paint, not 100 guardsmen. Hopefully I'll get some test models started this week. But yeah, you're desert yellow looks good, it looks like the finished kinda tone I'm hoping for. And I wouldn't go camo, I just like plain desert fatigues, you can add colour and contrast to the armour, weapons, accessories etc. That's obviously just my personal preferences though. Looking forward to seeing what you do.

Mostly, on my phone.

Very nice builds. Love the clips. I'll reserve judgement on the desert primer though till washes on - sure it'll look good though once it's been damo-camo'd.

Color at this point is irrelevant, it's basically just an undercoat/primer, and lighter is always better to see when painting anyways. Nice troops though Damo, can't wait to see more!

Don't get frustrated nerdy, I lose a lot more games than I win and I've been playing since the RT days! At any given time, just think about making the most out of the situation you're in. Small victories... things that worked the way you'd hoped, synergies, how good the army looks on the table. The wins will come eventually. Also keep in mind that all codecii are not created equal. There are match-ups that you are just not likely to win due to codex creep.

Oooohhh.. Guard! I like the trimmed down lasguns, but I think the clips look a little long. Did you think about trimming them down by even 1 bullet?

I run a couple of Autocannon sentinels as I prefer the 2 shots they get over lascannon, making it possible for them to hit at least once each turn. If your opponent has proper tanks or lots of stuff with AV12 then outflanking makes them most useful. If its just rhinos or light vehicles then you may as well start them on the board and get more shooting out of them.

Also flamer wise I run a PCS in a chimera with 3 flamers and a heavy flamer. When I can get it into contact it does bad things just through weight of fire, but you need to keep their ride protected, either by other vehicles or scenery, for best use. I also run a veteran squad with 2 flamers and a heavy flamer and it also tends to make light work of infantry squads of all kinds. the flamers also help with the inevitable counter charge.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!
