Thought i'd mix up my painting with more drop down terrain! I forgot I had a gothic power generator and found it again when I was rummaging around the Nerd lair! so I figured I'd have a crack at it, I know it's nothing amazing yet I wanted to try and give it a subtle glow from the rods without going ott with osl, tomorrow I'll do the main body of it and also the finishing touches on my Tank and squad

also got this stuff up for grabs on Swap shop if anyone's interested?

That tank is looking great! The guard are also great, but the tank is more stand-out great, if you know what I mean. I know I promised to get some pics of my IG up a few weeks ago, but we've had about 3 weeks of relentless 30-35 degree days (the last 2 have been 37+ so I've not been good at doing anything like painting or taking photos as opposed to sitting on my arse in the aircon and playing WoW instead when I get back from non-aircon work..

With your Stormtroopers, consider painting their weapons in the same sand tones that your hard armour has been in to reflect their elite status - even just on a test model to try out. Reflecting the same way that real-world modern operators often camo their own weapons or use camo'ed weapons. Or what you did with the nerf weapons.

It's a nice soft glow. I like it the way it is, but you probably have a way in mind to make it even better.

Hey Scipio? :-) thanks for the input and vote of confidence, those maxmini legs are very nice and I am going to grab some to use for the legs on my counts as Straken! I was going to make an 'Iron groin Straken' in a kilt...... but thought even though it'd certainly set him apart as a tough as nails leader it may not look the best!.... especially his bionic groin!

I should have the tank finished tomorrow hopefully, i've been working on Lt Gruber in the hatch :-) even down here in 'cold' Tassie we've had the last 6-7 days above 31 degrees too! we even got to 34.7 last week! so I've been enjoying the aircon in the Nerd Lair painting IG! they've really grown on me!

I like the idea of the guns on the storm troopers being camo, i've bought some special ones for them from MadRobot miniatures but I want them to still be seen so i may try a matt finish or part camo? they're a little while off as I need to find some catachan arms for all of them I can file down to not be as bicep-y and then greenstuff rolled up shirt sleeves etc.

Hey Nerdfest. What can I say, the tank looks very neat. I like how your IG army is turning out kind of bright and comparatively colourful. Always a plus on the table! Chipping on the tank looks very convincing.

That gothic generator is a really pretty thing. I may have to check that out.

But it's that stained glass window that leaves me speechless. It looks just amazing. So you got the design printed out on a clear acrylic sheet, added colour and then drew on the stonger black lines by using these Gel Pens?

I'm with Gits here, I want one of those generators, very nice! And also a massive thank you for the info on the window, that did not go un-noticed! I will have to give that a go when I get round to my city building I've been putting off for the last 3 years or so.

Not to sound impatient, but I really feel you need to be chained back to your painting desk for the benefit of us here at dakka. I'm still awaiting your sentinels to inspire me!

Hi Siggy! yep, that's pretty much it with the windows, although you just find your designs and size them to fit your model, then I actually had mine printed in colour straight onto clear acetate but if you can't do that you can print them out on good paper at high quality and then go to a photocopy shop and get them to copy it onto the clear sheet, then you just go over the lines with the gel pen, cut and attach, I have more to do to make them look cool and i hope it works

The terrain piece is a Gothic power generator from Secret Weapon miniatures go get one now! I was going to drill it out and add lights under it to light up the rods but I chickened out

well, i'm off to paint now so I'll update later tonight!

OR if you have access to a color laser printer, and if you can find some laser transparency sheets. Remember those ancient overhead projectors?
Just DON'T use those made for inkjets in lasers, they'll melt to the fuser, stink, and ruin it, maybe even start a fire.

Yes I finished some models! I am so glad I finally have the first squad and tank done! this will now guide the rest of my force in paint and theme, but I'm pretty pleased with how they all look, i took a bunch of pics, I hope you don't mind? I think they're a decent mix of a quick paint job and a good looking one with a few fine points! I particularly like the way the shining red lenses contrast with the muted browns of the camo and as you may have noticed I usually like to have a final bright highlight that I blend with a wash? well I kind of mixed that style in parts on the tank as well as the grittier weathered look, I think it's quite individual

anyway here we go! lets start with Lt Gruber in his little tank (points for source of his name)

well, that's the first tank done! I used to HATE painting tanks and now since I did the Baal Pred for my FleshEaters I kinda want to do a bunch I have at least 5 other tanks I want to do now!

next on the operating table was my first veteran squad I like these boys a heap, they have a good prepared special team look to them and believable feel, I wanted to paint them in a way that would be fairly fast to do and easy to reproduce over lots and lots and lots of troops! so if my blending isn't as smooth as it should be or something may look a little off don't hate on me! I still have 30-40 more to do

and here they are......

^ I like to refer to this guy as 'Pineapple Joe' due to his abundance of grenades on his person!

sadly that's it today I hope I've given you something cool to look at? next I have Vet squad 2 to paint as well as 3 Chimera's and when I get my Sentinel painted he'll be getting some decent Nerd love too!

talk soon dudes!

However I have to admit that the tank is a little too red for my taste.

looking super cool... specially the lenses of those masks!

only very minor thing to think about... the cord on the tanks commanders shoulder...i would have made that red rather than yellow/gold...just a thought...

Thanks for the look guys! :-) to answer a few queries, I shall be adding the '9' on all their shoulders to represent the Evandalian 9th Daggermouths and I have indeed decided to re paint the braid red instead of yellow on Lt Gruber in his little tank! speaking of his little tank, it does appear a bit redder in the pics than in actuality as it's the same red/brown as the pattern on the fatigues :-) I do need to keep practicing my photo skills as it's hard to get a good clear shot that's not too washed out or too dark and still show the true colours and painting! I'll get there one day but for now lets hope the images will suffice eh!
