Nice work bebop. I would'nt say that a 4 hours paint job is speed painting, but the result is damn nice. Painting a grey armour is tricky 'cause if it is not pretty well executed, it will look boring, and at worst it would look like an unpainted mini.
But you did great. Except for one part.


You can't leave those base rims as they are. That green is forbidden by international laws. People are being locked in jail for this in some countries. No green base rim on your models. You can't. Don't. Ever.

The green base rims are staying they look good. If its so bad after 10 models than it's easy enough to change. But the green livens it up. It's not goblin green either. It's very gw and I like it. It's deliberate!!!! >_<

Well then its a good thing its my army Sometimes only the artist understands his creations or something like that....no...really...color wise...it works, that you cant argue. Whether or not its your cup of tea, well...thats yours to decide.

I think it would be cool to do a red rim, weathered like the red stripe on the helmet. Give in, you can't resist us forever.

Do you invariably play on a green baize table? If yes then fair enough.

OK...since this is apparently up for discussion (hehehe), I need a solid, objective reason for the green rim to be such an issue. I can show many many examples of great looking armies with green base rims. And as far as color harmony is concermed, Im safe. So....im listening? And also, if not green, what then? Black? Brown?....how drawl.

Sky blue pink with orange polka dots, gets my vote.

You don't frame a Picasso in a lime green frame from pottery barn. You don't put lime green hubcaps on a Bentley (unless you're a rapper). You don't die Kate Upton to look like a lime.

I actually think they'd look great on some industrial style bases with cables, rust, and hazard stripes. It would modernize them while keeping them old school.

I'm usually a staunch anti-green-base-rims guy, but I actually think the basing itself is brown enough that it works here. I've never supported green base rims before, but there's a first time for everything!

@360 it would be cool but it's time spent. It'll just get more involved and again, trying to keep these quick and easy. But it's a good idea...

So I got 2 dudes done today. That's 4 in 3 days. Fantastic!! I've kinda experimented with different weathering but they all end up pretty consistent looking. My sponge skills need some work lol. Theres clearly things that i wouldnt do or let slide were i painting just one of these, but again its getting that perfect balance of consistancy and overall great look vs time spent. This technique will only become more simple.. so... Here's the next 2 plus the previous 2 groupie...

There is green on your base already. You put some grass, wich is ok. No need to add that ugly green "look at me look at me" rim.
Honestly, when I saw the first marine I thought the base was a joke... and then I saw the second one...

I am curious why you didn't go with the same scheme bases as your IG. They have bright colors, and if you allied them in, they would match (always a plus).

New pose, especially the first dude, looks much less static. Any special, heavy or Sgt weapons?

Really nice work BB! They look brilliant! Although I was a bit iffy on the green base rim, I actually kind of like it!

Look good as an almost squad.

I have no problems with the green rims. I can see your point about the colour working with the models (green and red being friends) and it stops the models from looking monotone.

I can also see what others are saying about it distracting attention away from the models. But these are on a white background. If they were on a table with sufficient grass coverage, they wouldn't stand out as much and may help the base blend in better.

Also, I can't really complain considering what I do on my model's bases...

360: Partially because i already did that basing scheme and i kinda wanted to, strangely enough, do a really stock GW basing.
As far as special weapons, well...i dont even a list yet. I dont really enjoy list building, but im thinking i want to use kayvaan so all my units have fleet. Seems pretty sharly...definately want something fast and strong. No bike armies...i obliterate them everytime i play em....Any ideas?? What SW i should start with and also sgt kit?
As far as poses...the legs they give you are SO limited in dynamics. Its not the most active box. Everything is kinda hunkered down. static.

Heres another guy. # 5. Half a squad in 4 days. This guy took a bit longer because of the face and im still not really done with it but i had to stop and move on to just not get carried away with it. Its pretty good for a quick paintjob. Good enough for sure and looks great with the squad.






Anyways...theres 5! Gonna take a day off maybe. Any list help would be appreciated too!

Fair Enough. The posing on marines is a bit tricky to make look dynamic. If you look at dude #3, he looks like he is active, lining up his target, as opposed to the others (#5 is good too "Crap, out of ammo"). Slight waist and head turns make a HUGE difference. If I can toot my own horn, look at the Sharks Nerdfest is painting. You can tell that most of them (some are a bit off) are getting ready to engage, or are sweeping for targets. The parade ground pose, like the AoBR marines, is very awkward for anything but guard duty. Bolter Marines are hard to do, they are pretty boring. Hope that helps and doesn't sound to jerk-y. Modeling part of the hobby is my favorite, so I can actually help, where as painting you are light years ahead of me.

Shrike lists (assault lists in general) aren't particularly amazing these days, might be able to make something up though. What kind of point level are you looking at? Any models you want to use or don't want to use? Is where you play FW rules friendly? Carcharodons actually have their own chapter tactics.

Btw, these are the shark pads Damo is using on mine. Might be worth checking out if you want some 3d pads.

A bit late to the party, but I'm also a fan of the green base rims. Usually I'm all black all the time, but yours look good. Particularly in the downwards angled pics it gives them a really nice grounding.
