So big thank you to Dave for the advice on how to bring the paint scheme together, had a go this morning and he is looking a lot better.







The lighter tone seems to tie everything together a bit more. I use the foundation paints a lot when I base coat. I think one of my problems maybe I don't move on from them later in the process

Yea, the strong pigment in those is opaque, where most layer paints have translucent qualities. Looks good!

somehow all makes more sense now... i think you redid the green on the cape?


oh and i know i am an evil fether here... but i just spotted a mould line on the mace...

I agree w/ LDD, more fleshy tone w/ purple hue and tips. That said, it's your model and your vision. Follow that wherever it goes.

@ Theophony - yeah I lightened up the pants along with the cloak, it has helped tie it all in, you incidentally sh###ing your pants was not my intention but I will take the compliment, many thanks.

Have been taking my time seeing how well I can paint a mini if I really REALLY concentrate. Have watched a few tutorials and I am trying some techniques, there are some great video walkthroughss out there that people have taken time to make and share for free, there is so much bitching about behaviour on forums but I think if you step back and look at it with some perspective we have a pretty nice community online. Nothing to show quite yet and I am away for a few days visiting a friend in Brighton but pics to follow soon.

I find it easier to paint if I stick to this general order of operations
1. Clean basecoat
2. Clean shadows/ink/washes/preshading
3. camo/markings if applicable
4. weathering/decay (since everything weathers/decays together, except metals, which rust differently depending on materials)

Well I can give you my advice or painting too.......

I take it that everyone has heard by now but GW appear to be pulling their specialist game lines. Might be worth grabbing some models even if it is as an investment to sell when the price rises Space Hulk style? I have always been tempted by the new goliaths, might have to grab them while I can

Challenge accepted. Mine may no have the lovely guts, but also will not be distended like that one. I only had time to drill him in perpetration for the magnets. I over drilled his bottom half, so now the proctologist doesn't even need to put on gloves.


Will try to work on this later this evening, kids have half day of school today and I'm helping out my grandparents again today.

I thought I would give a quick update to my painting project, its slow but is starting to yield results. Basing and some blending still to go but just wanted to share a WIP

I'm a stay home dad now, so there's always stuff to do this week is just insane with the end of there school year coming up and all three classes have events going on.

I think I'll just have to make magnetic guts to add afterwards. Got an idea in my head, just need a hammer to get it out.

I tried to copy the heavy metal paint job purely as an exercise. It was interesting to try and work out the processes for various effects on my own. The sword has come out fairly well. I scratched it with a sculpting tool with the end dipped in mythrill silver. The hardest thing has been the cloak, if you go on the website and choose the 360 view you can see that it fades from turquoise to a yellow to look aged and faded. I have tried to do this by glazing, I'm not sure if it was the correct method but I think it would work if I can blend it a bit better, I still need to highlight, how do you highlight over a fade!!!?
