I am having a very difficult time with categorizing contestants. Some are less difficult than others based on past work / contests / etc. Others are not as easy.

I am requesting contestants self-assign their category. If I feel that someone is significantly downgrading themselves (such as Gitz trying to join Chaos Spawn) then we'll discuss via PM.

Looking forward to this skalk. I plan on using recycled GW sprue as part of my diorama. Does this count as neutral with regards to the rules of the contest?

Cant wait to get started Skalk. Sometime after the 16th i will begin posting some updates on my blog.

@ Vik / Theo- It'll be easy. I have a 'behind the scenes' panel of judges at my disposal, two of whom have never been to Dakka and do not model or play.

@ sennacherib- Yes, neutral. There are so many bitz and so many questions that will come. If anyone has questions please post and eventually I'll compile into a Q&A list

Im really glad to see such a large amount of interest in this contest, cant wait to get stuck in.

With regard to grouping, im a bit unsure and am struggling to know if i fit better into aspiring champ or Exalted Champ. Its likely not many people on here have seen my work (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/30/418405.page), but im happy to go into either category.

Got ideas floating around already, and ill be on the look out for suitable random objects to incorporate into my entry, while wandering around Leeds all week for work!

p.s. when you put up the final competition photos, it might be fun to see a spoilered WiP too! Ignore me if it's too much work at the end of the day, but it's always fun to see what something started off as with this kind of junk terrain

I guess put me down for cultist. I post on dakka all the time so lurker seems out, though I definitely don't feel I've done anything "exemplary". Feel free to modify at a whim

Sign me up. I've had an idea for a good while now, let's see if I can pull it off. Hopefully I get at least one decent day for priming.

I guess either Spawn or Cultist. As far as Dakka knows, I've not painted in over a year.

I guess cultist, I can paint OK, especially if I take my time on a single piece. I'm gonna get curb stomped, but I'd rather be in a higher bracket for motivational purposes

So the only restriction on size is the base right? Preferably no spilling over beyond a reasonable degree? Is height pretty open then? Obviously nothing a foot tall is likely to sit on one of those sized bases and be stable, but just making sure I can work vertically if I want

@ Theophony- I have to disagree. I'm going to recommend Exalted Champion, but if you strongly reject the assignment I will reconsider.

@ graven- Aspiring Champion it is, but you have the opportunity to step up if you choose.

@ Galorn- Aspiring Champion at minimum. You've displayed considerable skill with your casts.

@ Dr H- Exalted Champion it is.

@ Chelnov- I'll offer you Spawn if you'll accept. 87 posts in 15 months = lurker to me.

@ scrunty- I've looked at your work, and you definitely qualify for Exalted Champion.

@ Moltar- I have, and he will. Also, would like you to consider Exalted.

@ Scarper- Good idea. Also, Aspiring Champion if you do not object.

@ GrimDork- I've seen your work and you have distinct vision for taking random junk and turning it into terrain. I'll allow the Cultists as I've already let Vik and RSJake join that category. You'll be in good company and should have a genuine competition.

@ monkeytroll- Yeah, you're going Exalted.

@ Vik- I want it to be fun, not stressful.

@ whalemusic- Cultists, but only for your assertion that you haven't painted in over a year.

From the work I have already seen most of you will be Aspiring or Exalted Champions. Each category will have varying degrees of skill but I do not think there will be a significant difference from contestant to contestant. For what it is worth, I would classify myself as an Aspiring Champion. There are a lot of contestants participating that I feel are better modelers than me but I would still share the same category with them.

I'm also offering the literal definitions of the words I used to qualify the standard of each category for clarification and explanation. Take a look at them and honestly consider how it applies to your work.

Chaos Lord- Participants in this category have displayed incredible skill

Exalted Champion- Participants in this category have displayed extraordinary skill

Aspiring Champion- Participants in this category have displayed exemplary skill

I'll happily occupy whichever tier you are most comfortable placing me in, though, I believe you do me too much credit

I don't foresee being top of any tier and it matters not to me which tier I'm in the middle of

I'll ask again (since I double checked the rules and haven't seen anything saying otherwise) as long as it's relatively stable on one of the chosen base sizes, height is not a limiting factor?

, I'll try not to disappoint you too much. I have a couple ideas rattling around in my head. Is it okay to use models purchased, or supplied by vendors as the main part of this? I'll junk up around it but I think I have stuff from two other contestants that might make appearances.
