I've played this game a couple of times now. I LOVE the Y-wings, and the TIEs are really fast and maneuverable. I don't know if this will replace any of the other games in our group, but I like it a lot (and not JUST because I'm a HUGE SW nerd...)

Also, kudos to Plat for the alphabet...maybe I'm not as big a SW nerd as I thought

3x3 is the recommended size and one of the players in my starter set game yesterday had to specifically choose a maneuver to avoid going off of the board. I wouldn't recommend doing less than that.

Those massive gun barrels and spikes are from the Stompa kit. I also spy laser-cut wood products in the top left corner, but can't recall where from.

Nice table though!

I've played a couple of times now. It's pretty great. That little box fits all the counters, 10 ships, dice, and rules. It makes travelling with it a dream. The game is fun as hell too. I thank everyone on who helped push me off the fence ***looking at you Manchu*** My friends refuse to handle the XWing for fear of breaking it.....there's some great detail on those ships....I personally like that the nacels on the Y-Wing are hollow, I think that's a great touch as they could have made it a solid piece.

Fun fun fun. Can't wait till the new fighters come out in December!

Saw this today in my mailbox.

Good looking game, by the way.

How do these guys stack up in comparison to the old ones from Wizards of the Coast? Are they the same scale, bigger, smaller?

How do they stack up in scale with the AMT/ ERTL model kits? Can I use a Star destroyer model in this game?

Should you pick up two or three boxed sets to start with?

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

The starter set has the two TIEs and one X-wing which leads to a small game (10-15 minutes depending on the rolls). You can go down to 25pts per side with that with no upgrades but the recommended size is 31pts. My next planned purchase will be an x-wing booster plus a TIE advanced booster that gets me up to 65pts per side with pricey special character upgrades and equipment. The bandied about number for tournies right now (which will likely be the standard friendly game size as well) is 100pts so it'll take a roughly 2-4 ships per side to get you up to that number depending on the ships and upgrades taken.

As for the size...

If you're trying to stick with a consistent scale to the fighters then the correllian corvette (leia's ship in ANH) would be significantly larger than the ERTYL Star Destroyers. The closest thing I've found to a visually impressive ship that is reasonably priced is the Erytl Clone Wars Venator Star Destroyer model which is half the width and significantly less in length than an ISD. It's still not to scale with the fighters but its closer.

yeah,
God I'm bored of waiting for the UK release... I feel Like FFG hates the UK! but it's more likely they just don't give a gak... Gosh!

That's a great find Grot. £2.55 is very cheap which is what I'd expect from a digital download. GW take notice!!
I've looked through the sheets and there is a lot of copy-paste going on with the shapes and tiles rotated, but that is also what Lucas did during filming.
I think it's OK I'll hold back judgement until I've printed out them out and played on it. I still want a 3D board like the one FFG had at GenCon.

Grot 6 wrote:Should you pick up two or three boxed sets to start with?
The core set is a good deal as you get three ships plus the special dice for a small discount.
I think 2 box sets is good as you want the extra dice and range rulers, and then buying the expansions to get the unique pilots.

2 core sets gets you 6 ships = 4-Ties and 2 X-wings (12 dice - all you need)
3 core sets gets you 9 ships = 6-Ties and 4 X-wings (18 dice)

To get the same number of ships as 3 core sets with 2 core sets plus boosters you need to buy 3 boosters.
In the UK, 2 core + 3 boosters ends up being about £5 more expensive than 3 core sets - for the same number of ships and less dice... but you now have all the unique pilots that are only in the the booster packs.

Hellfury wrote:I think I bought too much X wing...
Never! No such thing!
What ships did you get? lets see them all lined up.

Panic...

update: just checked my TotalWar Gamer account and my order is marked as dispatched. Woot!

Apparently Hellfury's girlfriend doesn't know what a TIE Advanced or a Y-Wing is...... Women!

You need more. If they ever come out with a Mon Cal cruiser or an ISD, you still won't have enough to fill the landing bays technically.

Staying on target.....

@rich1231 - I have seen that my order is now part shipped which is good but when will the remaining come in and what is likely to be missing?

If this is FFG's fault then they have done disgraceful job on distro. I should not have to wait 11 days after release for a pre-order......

Hi Scotti, Dice have been delayed - 2 weeks approx, And Y-Wings, we didnt get shipped enough as the distro didnt get all they were supposed to, again approx 2 weeks until next shipment. Everything else we have oodles of.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
FFG can ship to their US distros via next day services ish. Over here they have had to come by ship so there are always extra delays for anything that doesnt fly.
