Carved a really big 3" tall hill out of styrofoam after wathcing this video. Tried to get some pictures of it in last nights Kill Team battles, but it is still all white and didn't photograph well. Hill's aren't exactly rokkit science, but I never really found any I've made with a hotwire foam cutter all that appealing.
Careful carving, with a fresh razor knife, gave much nicer results. Monday morning I'll fire up the paint brush and give the hill a few layers of paint, and then take some more pics.

Incidently, 2 Space Marine Tactical teams pretty much rock in Kill Team missions. Faced off against Tau Fire warriors, then later on a Tau Stealth Suit Team, and won both matches with bolter fire.

Seems like tacticals would do well in that points range, harder to bring lots of ap3 guns to nuke them all.

Yeah man - can't wait for the Terminator game - more excited about that then any other game... ever... (hence why I started the N&R thread ) Impressive collection though and you certainly got a head start on the rest of us...

That is true. I was expecting to see more Marines and Scouts on the field, but people really suprised me. Two Tau Teams, One Chaos Cultists mob, Sisters, Dark Angels, and my Blood Angels.

The Dark Angels player got crushed, the Sisters player went 50/50, and my Blood Angels went undefeated.

Thanks !

I'm really excited about it from a modelling aspect, and I'm trying to be optomistic from a gaming aspect. My miniatures collection is littered with tabletop games that I bought and only played 2-3 times because no one else in my gaming circle jump on board with them.

Thank you for starting the TG thread. I may have missed out on the game otherwise.

I'm toying with the idea of making 6-12 10" gaming tiles, the first of which is man made hill, cleverly disguised as a fuel depot.

My terrain collection has gotten to be quite extennsive, but a lot of the individual pieces would fit on top a CD. My gaming buddies don't know what to with anthing that isn't a building or ruins. The plan is build scenic 10" tiles that should make putting together an attractive tabletop easier.

So you're basically making area terrain out of your smaller/scatter pieces since the others have trouble placing smaller features? Makes sense I guess.

Speeds up set-up time too.

Imagine a 4ft x 4ft table filled exclusively with terrain mounted on CDs spaced 6" apart. It was functional, but I was dissapointed when I saw it.

GrimDork wrote:So you're basically making area terrain out of your smaller/scatter pieces since the others have trouble placing smaller features?

Something like that.

The 10" tiles seem like a good way of avoiding that, while giving me room to make bigger pieces that tell more of a story.

I haven't actually recycled any of my existing pieces yet, but it's probably a good idea.

Speeds up set-up time too.

Definite plus, I hadn't really considered.

EyeamRai wrote:That hill looks pretty sweet!

Thanks. Dwez mentioned man made hills in his P&M blog, and I liked the concept. A piece of terrain that functions pretty much like a hill would, but appears to be built.

The man-made hill thing also benefits from some nifty synergy. In making it man-made you can have lots of hard angles and or flat surfaces, making the terrain more accessible and viable for placing minis... while at the same time explaining away those angles and surfaces as intentional so as to gain both functional terrain *and* style points

Absolutely, Grim.

I have Ice World, Modern City, and Ruins covered. This will give me an excuse to make more Industrial/Hive World terrain.

Sat down to build an Imperial Knight and watch a movie, and I ended up building this instead.

Decided that, I needed 12 Imperial Fists for Kill Team.

2 Episodes of Gangland, 1 Justice League Animated Movie, and an episode of Vikings later, I have an Imperial Knight with magnetized weapons options. Not really sure how that happened.

Lol that's interesting.

Self, what do I need? Well, self, some imperial fists tacticals.
Self, excellent, I shall begin work on the imperial knight at once!

Whu?

Oh well progress is progress

Maybe he's like one really big Imperial Fists Marine.

I think it had something to do with it being too cold to go outside and spray paint a base coat on, and the Imperial Knight being an arms length away.

Self, we need Imperial Fists.
Dude, it's really cold out. How's about you work on that Imperial Knight?
Self, okay, but just until this show is done, and then we get cracking on those Imperial Fists
Dude, sure....whatever you say buddy

While searching for 40k inspiration I found this thread here on dakka with another set of templates for a scratch build Drop pod.

I'm looking into the 5 fin design for possible use for Deathwind Drop pods.

Okay, this is what is sitting on my desk at the moment.

My Cerastus Knight Lancer got bumped around and needed minor repairs. Also want to get more paint on him, but I really don't know what I want to do. At the very least I am going to highlight some of the metal bits with silver edging, and some copper.

The newly built and magnatized Imperial Knight Errant, and the beginings of a Dreadnaught Drop pod.

I took the exiting templates and just cut an inch into them to leave space int he middle. Just need to figure out how to the interior side of the doors.

It didn't leave much to secure to the base. Plan on leaving a 1/2" trangle of extra wall at the base on the next attempt.

Magnetizing the Imperial Knights gun was easy. Small metal plate in arm, and 1/4" magnet in the gun. Can swap between Errant and Paladin configurations in seconds.

Teaser of next terrain tile.

Maybe I should just split the difference and paint the Imperial Knight Yellow ?

Managed to get in a 4,000 point 40K battle last night, in about 4 hours. My Necrons verses a Space Marines army tailored to fight them. We left out the super heavies and played with Objectives, Slay the Warlord, Line Breaker, and First Blood. The match was dead even until round 4, but ended 3 points in my favor. Victory came down to me blasting him off of 2 of his objectives in turn 5, and linebreaker.

About half way through building a bike squad. Just need to attach the gun arms and heads, as soon as I can find where I left them.

Started building a new piece of terrain. A stepped Necron pyramid, about 16" across and 9" tall.

Promised myself I would sit down this week and cast bases. I have 6 Canoptek Spyders that are not properly based, and I can always use more Scarabs. Also have a new 32mm base mold I haven't tried out yet, and want to use for my next squad of Immortals.

Did some detailing to the Cerastus Knight Lancer, but it didn't photograph well.

4 hours? Seems about right, used to take me that long to play half or less the points.

The knight on the right is not stock, is it? It looks awesome (as does the Forgeworld one on the left, of course!) but I don't recognize it.

We each had a partner, so it spead things up some. I guess you could call it a doubles match.

It doesn't have the armor plates attached, and it has a magent imbedded in the forehead. I'm going to paint the armor plates seperately before attaching them. It does look pretty cool as is.

Those are cool. The other, slightly smaller, knight thing makes the lancer even more imposing by comparison.

Very nice. Always cool to see a table with some proper terrain on it, something that seems far too scarce in 40k these days!
