with no cable maker, some soft copper wire would do fine. easy to shape and not fiddly at all to work with, aside from drilling a little hole if you need too... or just use greenstuff to attach it.

Yeah I'll do a few more cables, I had a load of soft metal cabling that was really useful but I also had good results making GS cables for my Van Saars. I think some bundles of cables running from the powerpack to the weapons is a must really.

but are you gonna keep that connecting bit of spure on the right there by the firing slot?

I have to admit I thought that was part of the shield at first, I will clip it off.

The Arbitrators pose is a little rigid but still a wonderful mini.

Yeah a bit stiff looking which is OK as he is meant to be a stiff sort of person, but I think I might have to redo some elements on him. I wanted a slightly more dynamic pose but maybe if he is just at ease it will look better.

Not 100% on the Xenos Prisoner TBH...he's just a bit "meh" to me compaired to the others there, but maybe with paint he'll come to life a bit more.

I don't think the xenos prisoner will make the cut, I quite like him but I don't think he fits so well in the warband. I am thinking of replacing him with a xenos hunting feral worlder, someone who can track down the hiding xenos and hunt the wild animals. I have a plan for this mini as well, although I need to check the sizes of the parts.

That Rogue Trader is just brilliant, she stands out along with the Inquisitor above the rest imo.

Hmm, I am not so sure about her, I might work her up a bit more and see if I change my mind, I think she just looks slightly awkward and perhaps not quite detailed enough.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Towards this end, I agree with what was said on the Ammobunker: The Rogue Trader (great model, btw) shouldn't really be a RT, but rather the heiress of a noble house who figures herself some kind of hunter herself and desperately wanted to tag along with the Inquisitor. And while he may be grooming her as his disciple and interrogator, she could still be shocked from time to time by exactly how ruthless and uncivilised he is. Or she is really as ruthless as him to begin with...

I'll think about this, but I don't really like that character type. I see her more as a pirate/freelancer/privateer type who is exploiting the Inquisitor as a way to make money trafficking xenos tech. I think as the warband only has one female character it would be a bit of a cop out to have her as some ineffectual noblewoman in the Inquisitor's thrall.

Could she not be said Noblewoman, who on the surface, seems to be being groomed for becoming an interrogator, but is secretly taking advantage of the Inquisitors unhinged nature, by selling off Xenos tech on the sly?

I really think she's one of your strongest miniatures in the gang, and it's a shame you're not happy with her! Hope you find the thing you need to make her 'click' for you!

Oh, she needn't be ineffectual at all! Maybe she's quite resourceful and has a good head on her shoulders. But still, tagging along with a radical Inquisitor may be more than she bargained for, and now she has to decide whether to roll with the punches or to confront her "master" and risk a falling out (with maybe dire consequences).

Or she could be very ruthless and fully aware of the Inquisitor's radical tendencies, and trying to exploit the whole affair for her personal needs.

In any case, I wasn't suggesting a "damsel in distress" type, as that would be, as you pointed out, a bit of a cop out. But I am fascinated by the thought of the Inquisitor being a popular and celebrated hero on the one hand, and a feral and unhinged hunter type on the other. For some reason I have to think of this film where Anthony Hopkins played an anthroplogist who was "rescued" after having lived among primates for years, yet his rescuers soon found out that his stint with the apes had changed him quite a bit. While it may not have even been that great a film, the conept is still compelling enough, and your Inquisitor's backstory somehow reminded me of that.

Anyway, sorry for the rant. All of this has nothing to do with modelling, of course

On a related note, don't drop the Eldar! It may be a slightly strange idea, but it offers lots of narrative potential and the character seems really tragic - and definitely more interesting than just another bounty hunter! (Come to think of it, maybe the Inqusitor is using the Eldar to sniff out his kin? That would be really horrible and very interesting at the same time!)

Edit: Hah, seems like ghosty Ninja'ed me there!

I think chances are I might just end up making a bunch of models and picking my favourite 6 later on. I am quite keen on the xenos hunter - he would possibly be a xenos halfbreed and extremely feral. I think my inquisitor would have no qualms about employing someone like that as long as they were useful (and no qualms about dissecting them the moment they outlived their usefulness).

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I don't see my Inquisitor as a celebrated hero at all, more like a stubborn, unpopular eccentric, regarded as radical and possibly as having gone a bit native. He will have adopted some xenos traditions like warding tattoos, fetishes and trophies and will be much more comfortable exploring alien worlds than at home in the Imperium, I figure he rarely even comes home and when he does he is viewed with suspicion and even contempt, especially as his coat must seem pretty horrific to other inquisitors. I imagine he has spend most of his life aboard a private ship in the fringes of space, or camping on alien planets - rooms decked out with exotic alien animal skulls and assorted trophies. Unlike a lot of inquisitors he is very physical and burly which comes from a life of adventuring in the great outdoors as opposed to reading books.

Pitslaves in Necromunda? I use the Anthony Case rules (they are far superior to the other rule sets kicking around as they don't have the heavy weapon servitor). You can find all his rules at the bottom of this page, along with the CE of the rulebook: http://anthony-case.me.uk/

Very nice and FAST!

The group oozes character.

The Magos to me looks more like a simple tool like creation of one, than the master himself. But everyone else is just great IMO.

I think the GS work would benefit from a little more care and perhaps better tools? Are you using silicone tipped paint shapers?? They are great for less experienced sculpters (such as myself) as they never stick to putty.

Good point about the Magos, he looks a bit unfinished to me - maybe some extra details could help give him an air of seniority and stop him looking quite so much like a piece of equipment. I like how he has given up any pretence of humanity but he does look a bit like some sort of medical servitor.

I do use shapers, I think I just don't have enough patience for GS sometimes. The Magos' cloak is probably the weakest bit, some other bits like the arbite's gorget have been redone in brownstuff for a harder edge. I often just like to get everything done even roughly so I can see how it will look. Were there other parts you thought needed work?

Every so often Dakka throws up a thread that eats most of a day for me as I trawl through page after page, devouring what's been put on display. This thread definitely fits that mold. Really great discussion, great miniatures, amazing photography and very enjoyable mini battle reports. I wish all blogs were this good, and damn do I wish I had the time and space to get THIS into Necro again.

Completely awesome, exalted. May this blog never end.

Cheers Da Boss, glad you are enjoying my stuff.

Here's an update to the Arbitor, think he looks a lot better now.

I was very happy to discover a shoulder pad from the old Marneus Calgar which I think will look awesome as a giant gold Megacity Judge type shoulder eagle. I also gave him some extra gear to represent that he is a boy scout on long trips - always prepared.

Loving the whole band, but my fav has to be the Magos, and close seconds would be Ruin-Mephiston-with-awesome-beard and the Magos. I quite like the robe. It looks a bit rough, but instead of a redo, a bit of fine sandpaper could work it into shape.

It's been said before, but the whole band has character, including the ones you're not quite feeling- the Xenos and the RT-lady. She strikes me more as a gunslinger, but the entire figure is nicely made and the backstory for the Xenos makes me want to have one just because.

Keep it up! I'm liking the recent resurgence of all of this =I= stuff from some of my favorite bloggers!

I'm redoing the Inquisitor a bit now as I wasn't sold by the fur, I think it would look good for a really scruffy look, like on a chaos hound or something, but I quite like the idea of his fur trim being something from some poor endangered xeno creature. Space Tiger or Alien Leopard for example. Moon Mink.

I will also sharpen up the robes on the magos, I think now I have the basic shape down I ought to be able to neaten them up a bit better by adding on top of it a bit.

Yeah I figure the rogue trader is more of a gunslinger/pirate type. More of a rogue than a trader. I think I need to work on her more and maybe I will like her more then. The Xenos might be cut even though I do love the idea of a really wretched eldar warlock or something.

That is some impressive conversion work man! That is a great choice of head too, although some slight bulking of the neck might help. It doesn't quite fit his shoulders maybe?

A couple of people suggested changing the neck so I pulled his head off and adjusted it, maybe it is a smidgen better now.

Here is the next member of the crew, he is in a much more WIP stage. This guy is a half xeno, a feral beast man that specalialises in hunting dangerous xeno animals and monsters in the wild. Still a lot of work to do on him, I know the gs is rough so far, it's just placeholder really.

Okay, I'm not sold on him so far, and I'll be as constructive as I can to help explain why.

1. LoTR - Never been a huge fan of using Lord of the Rings miniatures with Warhammer - the scaling is so off, and the sculpting looks 'weird' - not bad, but it's unique to the Warhammer universe sculpting style. Here on this miniature the bits that really jump out at me as 'off' are his legs. His legs, bless 'em, seem really gangly and thin. And the lower half (the shin armour) seems really stunted. He'd need possibly enlongated lower legs, with larger feet, which seem teeny tiny currently.

2. His weapon. If he's a hunter, why would he carry around an Autocannon? This is more of a creative notion, as opposed to anything 'wrong', but I feel that someone who stalks his prey, before going for the kill, wouldn't have a Str 7 anti tank gun. Unless he's hunting BIG game, and even then, I'd imagine it more like an old school Elephant gun, just because it seems more of a hunters choice than a machine gun?

3. I get you want him to look feral, but naked upper thighs seem a bit odd? I dunno, maybe add some straps, or something? Or nothing, they just throw me off a bit.

The head however, is glorious, very characterful, and I love his beard. If the Arbitor made 122 throne geld in movember, how much did our Hybrid make with that beastly beard?!

Had an idea, potentially ignorable, but you could replace his lower legs with something more bestial? Like, something 'alien' - Maybe Kroot? I don't know if it;s work, but it'd sell the 'xenos' part of the Hybrid more.

he also needs a combat weapon, for when beasties get up and personal.

Super psyched to see the remake of the cloak with a moonmink finish, he'll look dapper

He's definitely not a wookie!

1 - I think his legs are actually OK except that his arms are a bit beefy, it was impossible to find any that were long enough without too much muscle and so they are too thick compared to the legs. I actually like the proportions of the original model, he is tall without being just giant. I will concede that something looks a bit off though, maybe new legs are in order. I really like his shoes, they don't look too small to me really but maybe a slight embiggening would help.

2 - it's definitely not an autocannon, it was originally meant to be an elephant gun, a sort of primitive black powder thing, but I think it looks more like a spear gun now and that was what I was leaning towards. Do you think it looks too much like an autocannon?

3 - maybe I'll change the legs although I did like the idea of him being really feral.

He has a couple of knives so should be ok for hand to hand, plus the blade on his gun. I think kroot legs would be way too skinny but I will have a think.
