Here are your tanks YB.

The one rhino is sans-guns because it's a re-paint of a previously assembled model, so I couldn't do two sets of hatches for you. I can paint & glue the bolters on (like the other one) but they won't be removable so when you're running the razorback, you'll have to either pay for them or ignore them. I don't think ignoring them is a big deal as long as you don't try to shoot them when you haven't paid the points. You could magnetize them but the guns are awfully small and as my vacation is over I won't have the time to sort that out for you (magnets can be tricky to work with... especially on a painted model).

I hope you'll have some time to put a fire hawk insignia or two an each before Adepticon. They're nice but rather plain looking.

OH, here's the progression on the yellow if you're interested. It's closely based on your formula but I was missing a paint or two so I had to make some substitutions.

Yellow is all airbrushed.
Vallejo "Olive Drab" primer.
Vallejo air "Sandy Brown": 0 degree spray (basically from the side-on & up)
Vallejo Air "Ochre": 45-50 degrees, about half the side panels
Vallejo Air "Gold Yellow": 90 degrees (i.e. straight down)
Vallejo Game Color "Moon Yellow" cut with a little airbrush medium: very outside edges of the tread covers and innermost points of the hatches... just to give it a little pop.
Vallejo Air "Satin Varnish" tinted with GW "Sepia" wash: spray liberally but do not saturate... this tones everything down so it looks quite subtle & realistic, gives it a nice warm feel. I've tried spraying straight wash before and it just doesn't work. I think the wash dries in the airbrush and mucks everything up. Tinting a varnish that I already know will flow through the brush was a simple and elegant solution. It's doesn't pool or seek the corners like a wash, but it smooths everything out wonderfully (and it might go to the low spots if you really poured it on, but that wasn't the effect I was looking for).

That's it!

Gits, they look fantastic! I would have taken whatever you offered, but you'ver eally gone above and beyond my expectations. Thanks!

Oh, and you can leave the guns off. I do't have them on for my Adepticon army (unfortunately), so I can fiddle with them afterward.

Work has refused to leave me alone for the past week, so it's been rough getting to paint. However, I hope to have enough time to at least glue on a couple of simple insignia as you described them to me. If I have a couple more days after that, I may try to add some flames....

Hey YB, I updated that last razorback post with my color progression for you in case you decide you want to fool around with it. It's mostly the progression you gave me, with a couple of minor tweaks because I'd forgotten to buy one of the paints.

Thanks, Gits. That's good to know.

It's pretty close to what I was doing. I bet that olive drab (instead of gray) makes a difference, though. I wasn't doing that final highlight, either. And I love the trick with the varnish and wash; it's a really nice effect.

Hi, Everybody.

I've been too busy to post updates recently, but I have been painting an hour or two everyday. I'm just slow. Fortunately, I have several friends who have offered to ehlp me out with my Adepticon army! I imagine you've all seen what Gitsplitta did to my Razorback...

Spoiler:

Solar-lion also has been helping me out, taking my half painted models and painting some of the details on them. This is the hardest part for me, but he seems to think it's easy, knocking out a squad in an evening! Anyway, here are some of the (nearly) completed models:

Wow! They're really yellow in those pictures. In real life they're a bit toned down, a ruddier yellow.

Here's the Librarian I've been working on:

Like I said: slow. Still, I'm pretty happy with how he's coming out. I thought the blue might be too dark, but with the red and bone added, I think it looks pretty good. I like how the book is coming along best. Still have some details to pick out, and most everything still needs highlights.

Started on the Apothecary, too:

I wanted more of a bone color rather than bright white. At this point, he's got a VJ Brown Sand base coat, VJ Buff Hhighlight, VJ Ivory highlight, and I used Gits' airbrush wash trick to blend the colors. I'm pretty happy with him so far, but he's still got a long way to go.

As always, C&C welcome. I'd be particluarly interested in suggestions for the Libby.

Thanks for reading.

Good progress YB, but you're running out of time. The figures HAVE to be painted for Adepticon in order for you to field an army at all. Time for being finicky is long past. Just get them done. Get the base colors painted on everything that's left, then add detail as time allows.

Good question!

At this point, the entire army is playable. It isn't done, though. I've been putting my time into painting rather than taking pictures. I'm going to take pictures for Gits tomorrow. Then I'm going to spend the last week before the con doing as many details as I can.

Always with the negativity!

Yeah, actually, you caught me. So, the banner isn't finished. It's on the objective marker, thoguh, and so has to be last. Most of the OM is actually done; it's just the banner that needs paint. Honestly, that amount of detail is a little intimidating, and I'm kinda stuck on some of the colors. Not worried about it, though, because it doesn't have to be done. I'm working on it, though, Ctc. Pics when I get it (mostly) done.

Small Update.

+++++

First, some more details painted by Solar-lion. Thanks, my friend.

SL did some nice work on these guys. I'm very fortunate to have friends like Gitsplitta and Solar-lion to help me out with stuff like this, and I really appreicate the work they've done. (It's far better than I could have doen.) Little disappointed, too, in myself. I really wanted to paint this army, but I just couldn't get it done in time. I guess it isn't really "my" army anyomre, but it is a really nice army, I think. Oh well. All I can do is keep at it and try ot get better.

+++++

And some of my own painting!

Lexicanum Py'yar Havik

(Trivia: "py'yar" is Yiddish for fire; "havik" is Dutch for hawk.)

Apothecary Akiva Bloed

He still needs work, but I'm quite happy with how he's turning out. I really like the bone white I acieved. Makes me want to paint Star Phantoms....

Cornet Caleb Blaise

I think this my favorite model in the whole army. Kind of stretched some of my modelling skills, and I really like the idea for it. Painting is coming along. I think the bullet holes turned out nice.

Sorry, Ctc, no banner yet.

You're capable of very nice work YB, you just need to plan ahead a bit better. My tanks are a bot yellow when compaired to your bikes. I should've laid off that last highlight.

Sorry.

@Gits: Thanks, I appreciate that. I'm slow, though. SL says I shouldn't be such a "perfectionist", but really, given the cost of this hobby, I want them to look as good as I can get them. If I rush, I make mistakes....

Yeah, better planning would certainly help. It would have helped if I'd just gone with the Bike army back in September instead of dithering around. Probably didn't help that I switched to DA and dropped my Termies in February, either... At the same time, last semester was impossible and family obligations got in the way, too.

The Razorbacks are great, Gits. If anything, I probably should have done another highlight rather than you not doing one. Also, my pot of "Golden Yelllow" is more "white yellow" for some reason, so that dulled it down. I like the end result, but it isn't what I had been expecting.

@SL: No worries, as long as you're in charge of strategy and Gits takes care of deployment, I think we've got the battle in the bag.

@MK: Thanks! Glad you like it. I really like the yellow in the pictures, too! Unfortunately, that's largely the result of the camera. They're a bit muddier in person. Which I like. It's just different.

@Ctc: Yeah, like SL said. Gitsplitta's a bout 2 hours away (in the other direction). We don't get together enough, though.

No worries about the comments, mate. I need that. I did actually put some paint on the banner last night. Kind of excited now, so I hope to get some more done tonight. Thanks for the encouragement!

Hey, Lion, welcome to the blog! Thanks for reading.

Yeah, those RBs are really great, aren't they? They're thanks to Gitsplitta - who built and painted them - and to Nicorex - who gave the kits to Gits originally.

There is a point when you will look back on your earlier stuff and go " I need to redo these" right now your developing and that will continue. If you wait till your skill are Golden demon competitor level, your in the wrong hobby. However one need to make adjustments in your process to meet the intended goal. 4 months ago is when you can putz with design. 2 week till adepticon is when you just need to get paint on them. Ramos going thru the same process.. Every year you'll get faster and more accurate... then you get old like me and figure out you get what you get. or pay someone to paint them for you!

Yup what SL said.
You learn as you go, and sometimes you dont even realize how much you've improved. Take me for example:
When I first started, I was super proud of my orange marines, which took little more than a base coat and a wash. I still thought they looked ok until I pulled out my army case where they were stored. All I can say is woooooow... I'll have to pop up a comparison pic or two later, but you can really tell a difference.

And time crunches are never fun, but at least you always have the option of going back and continuing them (even as much as it kills me to not finish models fully xD )

Great to see the whole army together! Hopefully it wont be too much longer for me to get a similar picture!
