Let's don't fall into the trap of dismissing people's viewpoints by calling them "apologists" please. Thanks!

Finally! Menoth always seems to end up with the last releases.

Love this thing and will buy it as soon as it comes out.

I am not totally sold... but most of my gaming group loves it. Personally, my favorite Colossal/Gargantuan so far is the Mountain King, which works out great since I play trollbloods

(Although, I am possibly a bit biased there, as well... )

I'd consider collecting Menoth more seriously if the official scheme, which I really love, wasn't so damn hard to paint.

But I think this is my favorite colossal so far.

So far, this is my favorite of the Colossal models shown.

However, Lugnut is still my favorite Colossal and I can't wait for the model. I'll just have to resist painting at least one of my two purple...

Sorry, to clarify, I feel that, regardless of anyone's taste/view, the claim that PP's minis are what they intended while others' haven't lived up to their respective intentions (without any stated evidence, in response to a criticism, is a typical response I've seen from the PP fan base, and I was pointing it out. Stating conjecture (or, more likely, personal taste) as fact in order to defend an opinion, I felt, was worthy of criticism.

Slightly unrelated, "apologist" isn't, after looking it up, what I meant, since it's defending a controversial point. Can anyone suggest a better word to describe what I'm going after? (No, I'm not trying to be snarky or anything, I'd like to expand my vocabulary, and am guessing there's a word for this habitual behavior that I'm either not thinking of or don't know.)

I'd say "fan" because it shows the paucity of the criticism. "We can't have a PP thread without PP fans," isn't much of an insight. It's quite another thing, and you seem to be implying, that what you really didn't like was a having a PP thread with posts about criticizing other things. That's not really bad, either.

Eh, I guess. I guess what I'm referring to is akin to blind following. By comparison, I consider myself a fan of a number of things, but I believe in a more honest assessment of things I like (i.e. what my opinion is on successes and failures).

Maybe "fan" works, if closer to the original meaning.

Actually it has exact same problem as some more recent GW large models: exaggarated proportions make it look toylike and cartoonish.

Except this game is supposed to look that way.

Ahh, it wouldn't be a thread PP without PP apologists.

This is an alligator with a tophat, bottle of moonshine, and a bird on his shoulder. This is one of the most loved models in PPs games. It's also belongs in in a disney film.

This is a cracked out boar, clearly mutated, and clearly insane. It has a big bulging eye, lots of neat assymetry, and cool looking mutated skin. Proportionally it's like Pumba had a really bad time by some warpstone. This is one of the most hated models GW sells.

Now, you tell me. Which game is actually supposed to be cartoony?

I tend to fall somewhat in line with community opinion concerning both GW and PP models. The community hated the baby carrier when it came out, it's a fugly model and lacks any semblance of logic. The community also hated the stormraven (well, most of it) and the stormtalon (I don't know anyone that liked it). I listed specific models that there is common consensus about. I also noted that the new chaos range seems to take a note from PPs art style. I'm specifically talking about the mauler and forge friends which are closer to cryx models than previous chaos ones. With their sweeping smoke stacks that billow out, numerous curved smooth surfaces, and emphasis on spikey shoulderpads it'd fit right in. The legs are already interchangeable.

Well, not to derail this thread, but I think the Judicator is pretty much awesome. I haven't liked any of the collosals that have come out, so my expectations (especially after seeing the drawings) weren't too high...but they have been blown away.

Sure, the proportions aren't human, and the pose is goofy (almost all the warjacks have goofy poses, though), but it looks WAY better than I expected. If only it didn't cost an arm and a leg. I wouldn't mind the leg so much...

Derailing it by getting it back on topic?

It's growing on me... especially with the 360 view on the PP site. Except for those insane smokestacks!

Meh. Think the Judicator is the weakest colossus so far. All the others were cool. This one feels like a lost opportunity. Something more akin to the Avatar of Menoth or Guardian would have been more fitting. Should have been something that could have stepped out of a temple with banners and scroll work.

I'm not sure "This model looks crap" "-Well it's supposed to look crap!" is a very good defence. It's true that one reason that for example Maulerfiend is not liked is because it doesn't fit GW aesthetics, but even stand-alone the model has problems. As it is, I happen to like most of the PP range, although like GW, of late they seem to have ran out of ideas and resorted to recycle old stuff expect in more exaggarated and daft iterations.

The galleon is the last colossal waiting to be previewed. We should see it next month hopefully and if it follows the pattern, it will release in December. Some CAD images were shown at lock and load. The legs look too bent for my tastes but I already have plans to fix that problem. Otherwise it is going to be a glorious model.

What size are those, uh... Bases? And, are they nessesary for the larger guys?

Anyone have any of these big guys, yet?

When is the Giant GatorZillaman or King Kong Pigguy coming out?

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

120 mm, and yes LOS and melee ranges are all based on base size. Each size base has a certain height when determining LOS regardless of the models height.

I love some of the PP big ones but personally I think these things are no fun to paint if you dont have a airbrush... in fact they look like something I would have zero fun painting, not because of the design itself but because I think it breaks my own limits of acceptable miniature scale for my private collections.

Precisely

Yeah, the 3D viewer definitely cemented it in my mind as "awesome."

There are no plans for a Minions Gargantuan at this time, they'd rather flesh out the faction than give them big things just to do it.

No if, it's confirmed for December with Vyros2.

So happy to finally see the Judicator preview pics! It look great, and I can't wait to pick one up, eFeora is going to have a new best friend.

Only thing I don't really like are the smoke stacks, they look like pipes on a chopper.

I get the impression that you're pro-PP, but honestly can't decipher your argument past that. I can't tell what your comparisons are trying to compare, nor what you're trying to achieve with them.

That's... actually not a bad idea. Although I wouldn't mind a giant Turtle with a wodden shack on top. ^^

On topic: I'm not a big Menoth fan but the Judicator looks great. Looks a bit more Final Fantasy-ish, which was what brought me into the game in the first place.

I'm pro both companies, but I think that privateers largescale modeling has been much better lately than GWs. I was commenting on GWs stated company line (and typical fanboy defense) of having the best models in the business. If you're having trouble figuring out what my argument is you should probably read the posts where I wrote them instead of blindly shouting about PP fanboys after skimming the first sentence.

I was neither shouting nor skimming. I find your arguments and/or the way you argue them confusing after reading them more than once. I'd say "let's agree to disagree," except I still am not positive what I'm disagreeing (?) with, so I'll leave it at, "I'm getting out of this confusing argument (?)".

The 360 view really seals the deal for me. This is just awesome. It looks powerful and daunting just like a colossal should. Very sexy, I just wish its price tag was a bit lower.
