I saw the Khador colossal at my FLGS last night (don't know it's name, don't play Warmahordes). I gotta say it looked very very impressive. Price tags a little racy for me, but to each his own.

If you were to play with one of those, how many points is it?

THE FUN HAS BEEN DOUBLED!!!

19 points.

That's about half an average army and 1/3 of a slightly larger than that army.

They're priced about the same as resin garage kits from the anime market of the same size. Or the same size forgeworld item. But you'll get far, far more game utility out of a colossal.

I was originally very skeptical about the rules design for such huge models. I didn't want them eclipsing the jacks as the big thing on the table. Privateer ended up sticking the landing perfectly. Via proxying (and some not), I've had the opportunity to play either with and against all the colossals and they are both impressive and not dominating.

They will require a shift if you're building a "take on all comers" list, but I don't think they're anywhere close to being a must have or auto include.

If anyone is concerned about how the rules potentially add or remove value from your purchase, it's a non issue here. There's no detraction of value either in power level or relevance to the game experience.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

Won't be at gencon, so that does me no good! Would be nice to at least see the finished model though.

pretty much right, These things aren't baneblades in normal games, they are about 1.5 times a jack in toughness
I'm considering taking the menoth one bonded to feora, need to proxy it a few times to try it out

Regular feora might be hilarious (blazing effigy on a huge base? yes, please!), but I think you mean Feora, Protector of the Flame (efeora)

I'm concerned about the collassal kits being hollow. I've seen how easily my resin Wraith Engine got soft in the car, but that you can bend back. If the hollow body gets soft and collapses in on itself, I don't think you could fix that.

I run eFeora with 3 vanquishers and 2 vassals for a total of 5 4" fire templates a turn in a 35 point game (backed up by choir, stealhead halbardiers + priest, and the covenant). I think dropping a vanquisher and adding the Judicator and a couple vassal mechanics would be perfect for 50+ point games. Escort is good for making Menoth heavies move like Cryx heavies, but hymn of battle + ignite on the judicator would be just funny in melee. And well, the extra focus for bonding and having those rocket AOEs cause fire everywhere...

Whoops, I was looking at that via email from the local warmahordes players and forgot to chime in here about it!

I love the Woldwrath from the reverse view. I think toning down the shoulders would make it rock from the front, too.

drill a hole in it, pour in some PU resin/plaster/whatever, and you're safe. even if it were a risk

The Mountain King parts are really solid... I don't think you're going to have anything to worry about with these deforming from heat, based on how thick the parts are.

Not sure on the Mountain King, but on the Konquest and The Kraken that I've worked on, they're only 1, maybe 2mm thick in a lot of places. You can see light thru them in some areas. Talking to my friend the other night and I think I'm going to try a spray insulation foam, as it does not expand very much, and only costs a couple bucks for a can he says.

And yes, I've seen people other places compare the Wold Wrath to the Mad Cat.

And lastly, I'm somewhat amuses that the Colossals thread is now also the Gargantuans thread.

I didn't think of Battletech right from the start, but those shoulders do look like they should have rocket launchers in them.

Put this next to a dreadknight and wonder why people say GW has the best models in the business. I love this thing. The 3d rotation gives it a great sense of dimensionality, it looks even better in 3d.

I spent a good twenty minutes at GenCon staring at this model being painted, it was awesome to see... I don't play Menoth, but it was awesome to see it in progress.

Actually it has exact same problem as some more recent GW large models: exaggarated proportions make it look toylike and cartoonish.

It's a giant robot... You say it like toylike and cartoonish is a bad thing... it's supposed to be 2 to 3 stories tall...

Exactly. It's near impossible for giant robots to NOT look cartoony and toylike. Hell, Kiryu and Mogera are real-life rubber suits and they STILL look like that.

Except this game is supposed to look that way. It started out that way and it's continued on for a decade. It revels in cartoonish proportions and ample style and it works. GWs efforts in marine modeling has fallen woefully short in the same attempts (dreadknight, stormraven, stormtalon, etc). If anything they're taking cues from privateers disney esque proportions with their new chaos releases for how to create pleasing gestalt within a model designed for all ages.

Ahh, it wouldn't be a thread PP without PP apologists.

I think it has nice details, a bland pose, silly proportions and a good paint job-- about on par for PP.
