The paint job for these guys was kind of a mistake. Bought a tin of Tamiya spray thinking it would just be a matt dark green, but thanks to the impossibru translation on the side it was a gloss tin. Actually now think it looks a bit better, a bit more like a future plastic or something. Wanted to go with a more realistic-looking colour scheme than the official colours, I've copied the British army dark green camo scheme. I now need some tiny Union Jack flag decals to go on the shoulder if anyone knows where I can get some!

I've used some spare FoW US Armored Rifles decals for their names on the bases, to help with ID'ing them during the game (and also to give a sense of attachment, when they get killed horribly by something )
Spoiler:

And some level 1 strain - these guys are easy as hell to paint, so textured you can just drybrush and wash the whole thing.
Spoiler:

Your paint on these guys is really nice. I'm going to have to think long and hard about how I paint mine up now, because I wouldn't have gone with a camo until I saw your figures. Now... well, maybe.

In case anyone is wondering what to do with said reaver body and arm. I found that they go together quite nicely provided you have a spare arm lying around. I used and Anvil Industries bionic bit and it worked perfectly!

Thanks for that idea. Consider it stolen! Is that a human-sized Anvil arm, or one of the marine-sized ones?

That be the human one. Picked them up not knowing what I needed them for but I found a use for it!

That all looks great! Not too much of a fan of the standard doors, a little plain for my tastes. Everything else looks just like the art though so it bodes well for all of the other sketches. Glad I ordered a set!

News from Mike - Wave 2 shipping definitely won't be March and may not even be April (speculation on my part but if you prepare for late April/May delivery then that might be more realistic at this point)

Okay - seems like another time related update is in order.

Firstly - sorry I haven't posted here on this issue for a while, but that's not down to not caring what you all think, far from it. It's purely because I just haven't had the time. Studio Mcvey only a very small outfit (in fact - your talking to it...), and I'm just constantly struggling to keep up with all that needs doing. Producing all the masters generated by the Kickstarter campaign was a massive task for me - far more work than the sculpts for BfA - there are well over twice as many miniatures, and they had to be produced in less than six months - rather than the two years I was working on the game. Add to that all the rest of the KS related work, the launch of the game, the huge amount of work on AoS - and it means I've been struggling to keep up. In the end we were a little late getting them all into tooling - and that meant we failed to get rolling before the black hole that is Chinese New Year. So (surprise surprise!), we're running late on them - and I'm 100% sure we wont be delivering in March. Believe me, I'm as disappointed about that as you are.

As for when we will be delivering - I can't give you a definite date for that, and rather than give you an estimate, I'm going to wait until I can be sure (as much as you ever can be).

Sorry!

Honestly, at this point I'm only shocked when a Kickstarter delivers when they initially promise to...

So, not often.

Right now, with the game in peoples hands, we've found ourselves answering an onslaught of forum posts, fielding questions for our FAQ, and running polishing passes for the remainder of the Kickstarter material. All of this action is a bit overwhelming, but at the same time super exciting.

Since launching the Kickstarter with Coolminiornot we've learned a lot.

Mike and I long ago made a commitment to delivering you quality. We want to make sure that the Lights Out Solo Play Rules we've promised to deliver meet or exceed the quality bar we've set for ourselves.

Regretfully, I'm making the decision to delay the Solo Play rules set. Despite our best efforts, in order to meet our standards - and more importantly, yours - the rules need further revision, play-testing, and review.

I realize that this may be a disappointment to some. However we want to make sure that when the Solo Rules are ready, they are fun, consistent, clear, and easy to understand.

The good news is that the Lights Out campaign itself, is ready to go. We've had a solid play-test pass on it, and in Sedition Wars style, we've tied the whole thing together in a nice neat narrative wrapper.

The Lights Out scenario includes:
• Rules for Vanguard Opti-camo
• Rules for Strain Nano-Genesis
• 5 robust scenarios to engage players in an escalating series of skirmishes.
• Introduces "load-outs" - Pre-balanced lists of models - So you can set-up and play with a minimum of accounting.

Opticamo and Nano-Genesis are also portable to the main game for use in Strategic or Story scenarios at your discretion.

You have our sincerest apologies about the delay on Solo Play, but we truly hope you understand that we want to give you the best experience we can.

We promise the wait won't be long, and it will be worth it.

In the meantime enjoy Lights Out, and stay frosty,

Rob Baxter

Having a read of lights out now. Looks pretty swish, same format as rulebook

Opticamo is pretty good. reduces attack dice and no reflex attacks against camo'd models. Have to pay tactics to maintain it.

Strain get nanogenesis whcih gives regenerate (2 wounds a turn) and halved evolution costs. Also glow in dark so not affested by lights out rules (which basically just reduce visibility) Maintained by paying Nano.

5 new missions, only had a quick look but seem to revolve around power switches and the like.

Did LOL at the rule that say respective models MUST be replaced by opticamo or glowing versions. No thanks i found them a bit gimmicky and didnt bother. Ill just use tokens.

Still good stuff (although i've not played many of the campaign missions in the first book yet)

Yeah, no, sorry. I won't be buying a set of glow-in-the-dark minis to represent these rules. As you said, counters will do.

The Opticamo and Glow in the Dark Stuff was actually really nice for the cost. The quality and manufacturing seems to exceed the standard miniatures (I had little to no cleanup required on them to).

For $50 it was definitely worth it, considering I spent 30 pounds on a resin clear Tomoko from Hasslefree before. That's what, $50?

Awesome! i shall use those, They look great. Even if they are too good to be 'official'

Thanks Spiralling. Ill also link your blog up to my local gaming groups FB page as i know a few peeps that have gone in for the KS and may be able to make use of your efforts.

The lights out stuff looks good after a proper read. Im very impressed at the wealth of play you get in this game. Loads of replayability too due to the points values and non enforced loadouts.

Looking forward to getting the wave 2 in the Summer (it was never coming on time) and getting the rules for all the additional characters

With Solo Play and Multiplayer options also on the way i can actually see me easily getting my investment back out of this game

Thanks, DiabolicAl, for the props 'n' such!

Next up, I made some health tokens, as I was having trouble keeping track of that many cards floating around, and putting them on the board next to their models cluttered things up.

The basic idea is to laminate them, so you can write on them, like so.

Finally getting to paint up a few test Vanguard. Loving the detail!

I'm deciding between Citadel Fenrisian Grey (blue-grey) for the armor, or just leaving it the grey primer ($2 spray paint FTW!). Both look reasonably good, so I might do a mix. Different squads and all that.

Hope to get in a game within the next month or so.

Bah wish I could just get ahold of the strain side of the box at a sane cost. Too early to try ebay with the inflation still so high.

You could also look into splitting a box with a friend who wants some of the humans. That's been a popular thing for gaming groups to do in my own experience even going as far back as the Warhammer Fantasy Regiments boxes...
