A big one -- decided to do my first 3-D game bits with some opening and closing doors.

The actual templates are on my blog. As usual, feel free to share etc, but please link back.

I haven't gotten a chance to build these, myself, yet, but hope to get to it this week or next.

I also have them backed on black on my blog.

and, from tips, a more durable though less flashy version of the doors:

Started opening up my 3x Biohazard stuff. I've had it here for 3 weeks or so.

Thoughts:

From the extra stuff:
1 resin kara has a broken sword
1 of the flesh-hook things is broken
1 male rifle is bent/almost broken in two
I was surprised that there is only 1 male Vanguard pose and two female. I'd expected at least 2 male.
There's some bloody severe warping on some of the multipart figures. Trying to straighten them so they fit flat is going to be interesting - especially the inwardly-bent legs.
The dice are especially lovely. Shame the boxed ones weren't upgraded to these as well.

Only opened one box so far - might try and go through some more stuff tomorrow - if not - next weekend.

Boards are a little bit warped. I'll see if they get worse or better.
Some of the card counters are slightly off-centre, but not severely or anything - so no replacements needed.
I don't have it in me to open up the miniatures tonight after doing QAing 3 sets of biohazard extras and a pile of Forgeworld figures.

Straightening the figures is really easy

boil a kettle, pour hot water into mug, drop in figure bits, wait 20-30 secs the fish out with a spoon and bend as desired (the plastic gets VERY soft).

For the grendlr soften the two body halves and press together till the gaps close, then add the head

stick in cold water (run under the cold tap) to fix the position

Yeah I saw that. The ones I'm concerned about are one of the multi-part kits (sorry don't know the mob's name) but it has two large "gorilla arms", and both are bent inwards quite a bit. To get them properly flat on the ground, I'd probably have to glue the arms on, then boil the arms, then press them onto a flat surface. I don't think superglue would survive such treatment, unfortunately.

For bent parts I just stick a mug of water in the microwave for about 3 minutes, then I drop the piece(s) first into one of those pencil holders that looks like it made of chiken wire then dip it into the mug of hot water for a few seconds.

Spoiler:

Pencil holder works great with stripping painted minis so you don't lose any pieces, stick them in the pencil holder than stick it into the little bucket or mug that contains whatever chemical you use.

Anyone else missing their resin Kara: How long(if yet) did it take you to get your replacement? They said about a month ago that they were sending it, but I've yet to see it and they haven't responded to any further e-mails/messages.

I'd be curious to know as well. I contacted them when I received my box and it was missing one of the special weapon sprues. I e-mailed about it, got a response that it was being sent, and nothing. I e-mailed again, and no response.

CMON went all quiet on everybody pretty much all at once, so you're not alone there

they don't seem too good at multi-tasking/filling in when somebodys not about

so maybe Ginger who we were told was meant to be dealing with all that sort of stuff is off ill or has to deal with something else urgent (eg arranging the CMON expo which isn't too far off)

not ideal, but it does seem to be they way they roll

Yup, CMON is notorious for biting off more than they can chew.

Really wish they would complete one project, deal with post delivery issues then move on to the next thing.

My replacement may have come in. Not quite sure, but my In-laws called and said I got in a package the other day(I was in the middle of moving when the first shipment came and had it sent to them since they're now only 3-4 hours away).

You know, I'm still debating on whether to open up my copy and get to the task of assembling the figures. I'm a competent and experienced modeller, so that's not an issue, but I'm still having regrets on splurging on this game, with balancing the effort it would take just to get it on the tabletop once in a while, versus the effort it would take to get rid of it without taking a big loss.

Small update from Mike

- deep into painting the new stuff at the moment (including the Aphid and Gnosis), so as soon as we get the time, we'll take and post some pictures.

Production news is - they are all in tooling right now, and progressing well. Not a lot of other news on that front - the next solid thing I will is photos of samples, then physical samples. I'll post them when I have them.

Cards are going into layout at the moment, then straight off to print.

Working hard on the painting guide vid - pleased with the results so far.

cheers!

He he - Rob's going to regret saying that! he's so far up to his eyes with the rules update and the expansion that it could be years before he's ready to put pen to paper. The novel is not a stretch reward and is not part of the kick starter just in case anyone thought it was.

Wait. The gnosis suit is already getting the paint treatment? Did we ever see pics of the model yet?

No I think at this stage the next thing we'll see is the painted versions of the Wave 2 miniature - they have to get these finished ASAP so they can finish the cards and get them printed.

and shipping update:

Project Update #92: Wave 2 update - eta June/July
Posted by CoolMiniOrNot Like

Hi, Mike here. I know you are all eager to get the wave two miniatures, so I thought I'd post an official update on them.

As you have no doubt realised, we are running late on these miniatures. The print delay was one factor - and while I know printing and making miniatures are quite separate things, Studio McVey is just a small operation, and when something comes along and upsets the process, it knocks on in all sorts of ways. In this case, my time was the thing that suffered - dealing with the delays with production just didn't leave me with enough time to be 100% vigilant with the sculpting process, and as a consequence, two or three of the sculpts came in late. As all the miniatures are being tooled together - this made everything late into tooling and meant that we landed in the middle of the Chinese New Year black hole. I had hoped that we would be able to get rolling with them immediately after New Year, but that just hasn't happened, and only now are the tools being completed.

The tools have to be finished, production runs completed and product assembled and shipped from China. In realistic terms this mean a shipping date to backers of the end of June. I know you are all going to be disappointed to hear that - but believe me, no one is more disappointed than me. I'd rather give you a realistic date now, then tell you they are on the way and keep you hanging.

In a lot of ways, we have been the victim of the success of the Kickstarter - we ended up having to make around 40 unique sculpts, far more than double what went into the game itself, and far more than we usually make over the course of a couple of years. Quite a stretch for us, but one that we have learned a lot from.

On the positive side, some of these miniatures are amongst the best Studio McVey has ever produced. I'll leave you with some pictures of the last couple that came in - Battle damage Akosha and Gnosis Armour Kara, both are stunning miniatures - and hopefully worth the wait.

mike

Both of those are looking very good

(although I'm a bit sad we didn't get a direct copy of the art for Akosha, but I like the model anyway)

A real shame we won't be getting them till July/August in the end (wonder if the battlefoam bags will all be in by then?)

I'll wait.

I just hope he doesn't try to print it in China.

Well I didn't have to wait long for pics!

Cyber Akosha is perfect, some very impressive details there. I hope the Kara suit comes with a helmet and I would probably add a pommel to the sword myself but apart from that she is also looking incredible!

Wow. That Gnosis Kara looks awful (to me). The pose, the sword, her head.. it's like the worst of 40k or something. Everything that's wrong with Terminator Armour writ large. (except, I guess, her body could fit inside the torso). The artwork looked much nicer. I'm not trying to be a "cool" hater or anything, it just looks really bad to my eyes.

Have to wait until I have them in hand, but I may sell mine off.

I still need to finish opening up my boxed sets and check the figures for breaks and flaws. I've found a couple in the stuff I've opened so far, so I hope there's no more. (and that the rest of my counters are printed right.)

Not a fan of the Gnosis Kara either. It's still a nice freebie.
I see it's trying to emulate Kara's iconic pose with the pistol and sword, but it ends up being too bulky.

If it was me, I would have had Kara's head sunken deeper into the torso, with the option of a clear canopy, and not giving her the backwards-leaning pose that exaggerates the flaw. I also would have given her a more restrained pose that is more appropriate to the suit she is piloting.
