Having just watched the video I have a feeling that all the guns have the barrels cast with holes rather than being drilled - as all the holes seem too well done (IMO) - comments??

No davylove21 i am actually asking does anyone know if thats the only difference between the limited edition box set and the normal one they bring out. It surely cant just be that one limited edition character and the rest of the box is the same.

Oh the chaos models make me salivate. I really love what they've done to them...they actually look vicious. Absolutely vicious. I'm going to use them to start a chaos/renegade IG army. Those cultists are so boss.

The DA aren't bad either. Tactical marines are always boring. But that librarian looks incredibly good, and the chaplain rubs me in all the right places. Now if only I could get rid of those useless tactical marines, terminators, raven wing bikes, and chapter master.

To our Australian brothers (and other countries with either no GW presence, or a very expensive one), on the subject of smuggling plastic crack, I was wondering if any of you would be interested in a de-boxed and de-sprued Dark Vengeance boxed set??

I've just ordered my two box sets today, when they arrive I'll see how complicated the sprues are, but assuming it's not going to be a complete fiddle, I would be willing to offer (on a limited number basis, and for a very small fee for my time) a de-sprueing service. Basically, I'll buy a box set from one of the online discount stores here in the UK, un box it, and then carefully clip the entire contents of the sprues into a few little plastic bags, which should massively reduce the size, and then slap those bags of plastic, the mini rule book and the templates into a small jiffy bag and post it to you. I won't bother posting the box, the whippy sticks, the plain white dice, the empty sprues or the pointless "how to play dark vengeance" booklet which whilst very pretty, is about A4 size whereas the rulebook is just over A5, so it won't fit in a small jiffy bag, and is extra weight. You just pay for the box set at UK prices, and the postage of a small jiffy bag to AUS, plus a couple of beers for me. Sound ok?

I'll put this offer up in the Dakka Swap Shop once I've seen the box set sprues and how hard it would be to clip the whole lot. I just wanted to see if anyone would be interested in that service??

You also get a double sided colour single sheet guide to assembling and painting the chaplain in the Ltd Ed box set, that isn't in the standard set. Bet you feel privileged now eh??

Eeeekk... I thought the hellbrute looked awesome, but after seeing the 360 I have to say that imo that is only from the front. The torso sides and back look lumpy, undetailed and completely non-functional... A real shame, and a pretty big surprise... front and back, it almost looks like 2 different models, 1 sculpted by an amateur and one by a master.

Chosen and Lord though? Awesome sauce, if a bit bloody daunting to paint!

The hellbrute and chosen are lovely but everything else is unexciting and the cultists are especially bad.

Having looked at the proper GW pics, my overall opinion is that the box set has a few very nice individual miniatures that I may pick up from ebay in the fullness of time, but collectively this is not as good as AoBR.

Please tell me you are joking???
AOBR was loaded with static poses and much blandness, whereas the models in DV are full of character and actually look animated.
From what I have seen, most of the AOBR minis got used at first by beginners, and later were shelved due to not looking as good as the multi-part minis frmo other kits. Looking at the stuff in DV, these minis will probably actually see the light of day, and even the tabletop, long after the owners' armies have grown beyond them.

Especially when the rear is the part YOU will be looking at during a game...

Most of the detail is fine, but the flesh sack rear corners of the body, especially on the right side, need work.
More and/or varied sizes of slit vents, a bit of spiky metal trim, an exposed hose (or hoses) similar to the other side, detail like the rear of the lower legs might work, but it just needs something more.

Don't get me wrong, its a great model, but it seems like the ran out of design steam when doing the rear of the body.

Mine will get Nurgulized, which should be pretty easy. Slaanesh and Tzeench would require some thinking...

Agreed about the Hellbrute's backside.

The Termie heads are also quite dire in places, but apart from that I love the set. I don't get all the Chaplain hate.

Suits me fine as I'm going to be Nurglifying it. Blank space is perfect for adding oozing sores and buboes to.

GW does that no matter the product, even stuff that sold out in about a week like the Dark Eldar/Space Marine Megaforces.

You could add more Nurgle butt before you add the detail.

I can see the logic behind the semi-fleshy HellBrute appearance - it's supposed to represent a small Daemon Engine (or exceedingly "blessed" ex-Obliterator?) rather than being a purely mechanical shell like a loyalist dread. Nevertheless, yes it looks a bit crap from certain angles, mostly due to the limitations of plastic casting such a figure from (I'm guessing) only half a dozen bits.

Fixing it will be fairly easy for most chaos chapters/powers - just add some spare eyes/claws/tentacles/icons/cables etc from the bits box to cover the blank/boring bits. Rather more work for e.g. Iron Warriors though, who'd probably want to hide all of the 'fleshy' bits. If you look closely, even the feet are fleshy (although mutated) organic feet.

PS: do they really think they'll sell many special figure cases, except to gullible parents? Who would love the game enough to want a figure case but not want to also buy a pile of other figures which won't fit in the stupid case?

Paintstudios and freelance painters and ebay-folks who want to horde the box and re-sell it painted (and what better than shipping pricy "pro-painted" models in a custom case?)

Does anyone have info on the cultists stats? Are they just guardsmen for CSM, can they be blobbed, or do they exist purely so a CSM player can make a 2000 point list and only spend 100 points on troops?

I don't think we have any stats so far, but my guess would be Guardsmen stats. Although I would not be surprised if they were WS and BS2. Dirt cheap of course. Probably around 4-5 points each for that statline.

Probably an Autogun base, can swap for Autopistol and CCW for free. Shotguns will probably be 1-2 pts a model. We know they can take Heavy Stubbers and Flamers as weapon upgrades.

Sergeants have Shotguns and 2 CCWs as an option. Possably the option for a power weapon too.

The leaked Chinese document with the stats puts them at like 4 points a man, GEQ statline but with a 6+ save, mobs of 10-30 men. They'll have a proper entry in the actual Chaos codex.

The sink.

I'm not sure why you'd want to get a mob of guardsmen with pistols and CCW's, but the option is there. Unless of course mark of chaos undivided does make them fearless. That would be quite a tarpit unit.

Marks probably won't be what makes Cultists good. Cheap bodies is what they'll end up being, but Marks will just let them do their job a little better.

Fearless for Undivided sounds good.

Nurgle will probably be either +1T or FnP,

Tzeentch: 5+ ward,

Slannesh: +1 I

Khorne: Rage or Furious Charge, or both.

Or Nurgle for T4, extra attacks for Khorne, an invuln save from Tzeentch... I think with marks you'll be able to make them good at a number of roles, whether it's cheap objective-holders or mobs of frenzied infantry to screen your troops.
