Cleaning? of brushes?

I do understand that being able to use water with your paint is miles easier etc. than using white spirit.

Had I started these models new, with no available paints, I would have likely gone with Acrylics, but as I already had quite a collection of paints (read; more than I care to count) that aren't going to be used for anything else, and I have years of experience with using them, and when I looked at the first obvious choice for acrylic paint (GW) I saw that I get more paint in a pot for roughly half the price... if it's not broke, don't fix it...

I don't think I could trust myself with that... I just had to replace a brush today and I'm only using water-based acrylics! I think I've got a better maintenance routine in place now, though.

Say, would you care to take a gander at my new blog? I haven't gotten any comments yet. Could be awful for all I know.

I also have quite a selection of brushes, some of which are very old and most of the newest ones are only cheap Humbrol-own ones (I've gone through 3 of the 000 ones over the course of this thread, but are only about a quid each and they still serve as brushes, just to a lesser extent).

I have picked up some "posh" Winsor&Newton Special Value brushes a while ago, but I only use them for the really fine work and they seem to be lasting well.

I don't do anything special with my brushes other than make sure I've got all the paint off and they are left in a point...

Will do.

Not had a lot of motivation to do much modelling recently what with the heatwave
But I have done a few little bits and I even have something worth showing...

Guardian Number 9 has had his pose set.
Although, you will still have to imagine a flowing cloak on his back and a heavily hooded head looking down at whatever it may be that I end up putting in his hand for him to be looking at...
You may also see the putty work on his waistline that was required to fill a hole, created by the change in the left leg angle.

He does make the gun look suitably large...

What do we think people?
Also, what head shall I give him; normal helmeted, bare or just sculpt/press-mould a jaw (as your not going to be seeing more than that with the hood plans)?

i would do the press moulded jaw thing underneath the hood...

and boy... this is for sure a big gun!!! and no mistake!

more pressing is what he will look down to...?
a bone? a sort of auspex? and is the skull the real thing to rest the feet on or will there be a change? a nice mossy log would look good too...

How did I not guess that that was what you'd say...

I could turn the skull he has his foot on into a servo-skull... with a bullet hole in it...

Cool. It would save on a head that I could use somewhere else.

I was thinking an auspex-alike, but the bone is not a bad idea... I want him to look like he's studying something closely...

I was intending to use the skull as I have a few (that I found in the HeroQuest box) and thought I could put it to use. I liked the idea that of all the things a brainwashed sniper would pause to rest a foot on, it would be an old skull. Shows a kind of lack of compassion.

I would have to a say a simple helmeted head would work best with that suit of armor. Of course everyone is a sucker for cloaks!

Thanks SS.
It's a good Idea, but I am hesitant on using a model as just basing for another model...is this just me?
Although if it's an Eldar victim it would show the sense of his close, brainwashed, scrutiny ("this head looks awfully familiar").

I want to have the ranger/pathfinder look and he's getting a cloak and hood (I want to have a go at sculpting one), it's just a question of whether I use a real head to put the hood over, or just sculpt a rough one as it's going to be mostly hidden. Thanks.

Vik, I don't play favourites with my llamas, they are all special in their own ways...
It was actually a corruption of Yorick and Yriel, to make it sound Eldar-y.

Really? Ha ha. Shows it works as a name then, didn't expect that.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand... I have some swords to show.

Compared to the axes and my handy measuring scalpel for scale.
I have been planning the guard positions (the black lines).
I finished the putty version of Sword #2 (that's the one that didn't work in sprue). It has turned out a little large and so it became the practice sword for adding a hand to...

The hand was done with a press-mould to see if that's any easier than carving my own, 10 times...
Mixed success: It gave me the correct size for the hand and the position of the grooves and fingers. However, bending it round the grip made it crack at the knuckles (a milliput problem) and I needed to go over the details with my poking device to make the details crisper (as they'd been slightly flattened by my attaching it to the sword).
Also made a pommel with a blog of putty.

Also, you may not be able to see (you can if you zoom right in), but I did carve the vent of axe 6.3 into a better shape. I now need to add a surround to it (I was going to do this with putty today, but forgot ).

Yeah, and the wrist needs thinning on that hand before it could be attached to the arm... So a little too large.
Could do with a thinner blade, but can't thin that one any more as it's down to the plastic. Would need to do a whole new one.

Yeah, it's the little milliput-white shape that's on top of the battery pack. If you zoom right in, you can make out that it's cut into steps. With sides on, it'll look just like a vent.

Compared to the likes of FO3 and NV, Bioshock did seem very short.
But it was fun, good story, good atmosphere and soooo much steampunk-y goodness. disappointing end though.

Fallout and Elder scrolls games really latch into my collecting/hoarding nature and so I've clocked up a ridiculous number of hours in those games.
Sadly I can't get either FO3 or NV working on my pc at the moment as it's going though a tetchy phase (memory problems, but probably needs a new motherboard).
